Demon's Souls (OG), Dark Souls 2 (but only a little bit of it), Bloodborne, Nioh, and I guess Code Vein counts (didn't get too far with that either). *edit* oh, Fallen Order of course

The original Demon’s Souls, and Dark Souls 1, 2, and 3. I do have Bloodborne and Nioh in my backlog. Would like to get Demon’s Souls Remake, Sekiro, and Nioh 2 someday.

Edit: Also played Code Vein, enjoyed it. Some Lords of the Fallen, seemed ok. A bit of Mortal Shell, didn’t really care for that.

Voted for all of them except Nioh 2 and the Demon's Souls remake, which I'd never play anyway.

Fallen Order is another one. It does everything it steals from Dark Souls worse. The majority of the chests only contain skins. The way the enemies respawn and how the bosses are retried is also far dumber within the reality of Star Wars.

Everything except Nioh 2. I find the combat to be pretty basic in all of them, but the level design in souls games are typically great. It is the only reason I play.

I've played them all except Nioh 2 and Sekiro. Nioh 1 I never finished it was just so repetitive and dull so 2 was never going to happen and Sekiro just didn't appeal to me on any level.

I love all the others.

  • Dark Souls (Xbox 360, XB1) - still never beat the game yet but got decent way through back in Xbox 360 days
  • Dark Souls 2 - beat it, the Scholar of First Sin Edition on the Xbox One
  • Dark Souls 3 - got it at launch for Xbox One and beat it pretty quick
  • Lords of the Fallen - got it on Deals With Gold for $6, pretty much the first Souls-like I ever beat
  • Sekiro - made it a decent way in before hitting a difficulty wall with a couple bosses and haven't given it much time since
  • Code Vein - I liked this one, basically an anime Dark Souls as advertised
  • The Surge - got pretty far but got stuck on a boss in the late game and haven't been able to progress and haven't bothered to return
  • Bloodborne - grabbed it when I got my PS4, dabbled but haven't given it much of an effort yet
  • Nioh ‐ own it but part of my sizeable PS4 backlist
  • The Surge 2 - also in backlist, not sure if just start this game or go back and try to beat the first.
  • Demon's Souls - had it for PS3 when I had one but I never got around to playing it
  • Jedi Fallen Order - I only mention it because everyone else considers it a Souls-like but I don't, more difficult at the start but gets much easier as you go on, and being able to re-spec skills made it easy too (I wish Sekiro had such an option)

Played Dark Souls 1 on 360, hardest boss was the frame rate.

Tried Dark Souls 2 but it's hard to play these games with no real story thread.

I'm sure the same is true for Elden Ring.

Nioh 1 and 2 are in my backlog because they have stories lol

Played and beat all but nioh 2 and sekiro.

I just can't get the parry system with sekiro and got bored with nioh 2

Bloodborne

DS 2

DS 3

Nioh

All too hard for a filthy casual like me.

Also why no Surge, Surge 2, and Fallen Order on the list? Those are technically "soulslike" games, and good. Especially Fallen Order which is good for, again, filthy casuals like me.

@mrbojangles25: The hardcore souls guys like to bash Fallen Order, but it was a great game. The combat was fun, the level design was really good IMO, the map though was crap and is something I hope they do some work with for the sequel.

Played most of the souls games that is released on PS including 2d ones like Blasphemy, hollow knight and salt & sanctuary. Platinumed them all too. Easiest genre to plat personally.

Best is Bloodborne.

Average is DS3

Worst is The Surge 2.

Just the from software games and the two Nioh games. Both Nioh games mop the floor with from softwares games in the combat department.

The second game could stand to have a bit more creative flare, but it makes the necessary improvements needed to that games enemy roster+with the added tech that come from burst counter.

From Software I think released some forgettable games in dark souls 3 and suckiro. Hopefully Elden Ring is much better.

I started my From journey in 2021, so:

Demon's Souls --> Dark Souls 3 --> Sekiro --> Dark Souls 1 --> Dark Souls 2.

Inbetween DS3 and Sekiro I played Nioh 1 / Nioh 2 but they weren't any where near as enjoyable as the souls game and since their combat was so inferior to Sekiro's I gave up after 25 hours or so.

I also have 6-8 hours in Bloodborne which technically was my first Souls game and I did return to it after finishing DS2... but I am waiting for Bloodborne remaster

next up, GOTG/GOTD winner - Elden Ring

@Chutebox: Hesitation is defeat my friend.

At one point (all summer last year) I considered throwing in the towel. But after my 4th run of Sekiro I almost did a deathless run (made it to the very last boss, who killed me twice...)

Played and completed Dark Souls, Dark Souls 3, Sekiro and Nioh.

I think DS1 is the better game, but DS3 is my favorite. Nioh has the best combat. Sekiro was a breath of fresh air, really like that game too. I wish FromSoftware did something similar again. New Tenchu, mayhaps? I wanna sneak around like a ninja.

Tried Bloodborne briefly over PSN. The streaming worked pretty well, but it made a crappy looking game looking even more crappy. As if that heavy usage of chromatic aberration didn't make the game blurry enough already. The unstable 30 fps framerate was pretty terrible as well. Felt like a huge disservice to play a good game like that, so I stopped.

@SolidGame_basic:

For me, it was Dark Souls 3 and Bloodborne. Neither game have I finished or kept my attention for long. I think I should've realized that Souls-type of games just aren't my thing by Souls 3 but people just wouldn't shut up about Bloodborne.

Dark Souls - Played a bit. Was rushing through it, so I didn't give it a fair shake.

Dark Souls 2 - Played a bit but noticed I was getting through a bit easier. It was more of a rental, so I didn't have much time with it.

NioH - Played a bit, but this is where I found that the Soulsborne genre is not my type of game.

Bloodborne - I bought it one Black Friday but never played it. Traded it in later. I like the aesthetic and lore, but not sure if I should really play it.

The Surge - I watched a playthrough and it was interesting, but trying to play it was either frustrating or exhausting.

Let It Die - Have played a good amount. As a fan of the creator's work (No More Heroes is my favorite series), I found myself really enjoying this although the constant need to change characters and have to level them up from level 1 was a chore.

Code Vein - I have it, but haven't played much. I only played like the first 30 minutes or hour, basically the dungeon before you get to the hub.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order - Played a bit originally but was rushing through it, played it again all the way and was taking my time and found myself enjoying it a lot. I actually want to go back and play it again. This is where I found that my like of the Soulsborne genre is within games that are not specifically tied to it, or just basically are not made by FromSoftware.

I 've completed DS1 + 3, Bloodborne, Nioh1 + 2, Fallen Order. 98% of the way through on DS2. I tried Code Vein, but dropped it.

Have not played Sekiro ... high chance of it coming to game pass so will wait.

Nioh 1 and 2 are easily my favorites. The combat is about a zillion times better then rest.

Fallen Order is good, not great more fun then From Software's games for the most part imo.

From Software has good level design ... but honestly that barely matters to me in action games like these. I'd like to see them cut down on stuff between the boss fights which are the best parts of their games. Fighting regular enemies is not really enjoyable.... Also don't like that they never play music during the levels.

No. It just means you gave Fallen Order a bigger chance then proper souls game. From all you previous descriptions of souls games you pointed on them all "I played a bit, rushed through to it and didnt gave them a proper chance".
