I know MMORPGs like ToonTown, RuneScape, and World of Warcraft take massive amounts of time to beat, but what I mean are games that are really long, but not because consist almost entirely of grinding end-game. I heard The Witcher is 70 hours long, and Fallout 3 takes a serious amount of time if you include all the side-quests.

The longest non-MMORPG games I can remember in recent history are Final Fantasy X, Twilight Princess, and... I can't think of any others right now, but those took a little longer than 50 hours to just complete the main storyline! I know games like Super Smash Brothers Brawl have really hard tasks that take forever to complete, so I suppose I'm looking mostly for adventure games from start to finish.

What is it!?

Longest as in story or as in stuff to do?? Cuz if it's the latter I think Disgaea could be a nominee there.

This isn't really a System Wars question... at all.

Oblivion is pretty huge, so are FFVII and VIII. There isn't really a "longest" without a significant amount being the grind.

I've had seventy hour files on Ogre Battle 64: Person of Lordly Caliber. And that game is actually pretty linear.

Persona 3 or 4, take your pick

I think Persona 3 was longer. Around70 hour for stories alone I think.

lol toon town and runescape, UGH, just UGH.

Anyway the longest game I think I've played was probably Tales of Symphonia, that took around 80+ hours with all the sidequests, though to be honest that game's story felt really long winded by the end. I've been meaning to pick up The Witcher though.

Dark cloud 2 have a ton of hours, i mean a ton! Plus, after you complete the game, you can continue the story, the world have been saved and max goes onto a lame boring new adventure, /w lots of things to do. I never finish the game, it was just too long, all i did was finish the main plot.

The longest games ive ever played are Grand theft auto San Andreas, Grand theft auto 4 and Final Fantasy X. But if you factor in Replayability then The Orignal Doom games win.

Meh not really. Some just seem like a hassle i.e All the hunts and marks in Final Fantasy XII.

Even then, it doesn't take a 100 hours. Max 80.

70 hours for The Witcher? I did everything possible within 30, unless you mean going back and getting the different erotic cards (and thus doing the other 2 paths you did not follow the first time around). But that's more replay value than time to play from start to finish. Morrowind, Fallout 3, Oblivion (see a pattern?), and FFVII were games I spent over 50+ hours on. I know I spent almost 70 in FFVII, but I was younger and had more patience to grind out levels than I do now.

doing everything in FF12 takes an upward of 200+ hours. Morrowind though takes even longer.

I thought this thread was just about start to finish without going and trying to do other stuff. The main story line. Just doing what it takes to get to the credits.

Daggerfall, because it takes roughly two weeks to get from one end of the map to the other, and then you mid get distracted from reachinig your dstination with a little dungeon diving.

if you mean going from the start straight through to the end without sitting around doing side quests and crap, The Wind waker was rather long, took a while to search for all the triforce shards, if you mean sitting around and trying to unlock everything in the game then Disgaea 3 certainly seems to be full of alot of content.

It's probably a total war game. Seeing Empire Total War is the newest and the biggest, my guess is there. A single campaign can take around 30 hours. There are enough factions to warrant hundreds of hours of play.

Like someones else said, i would say its Persona 3:FES. It will take around 100 hours to complete the main story, although side-quests are pretty much non-existant I guess you could argue that the S-links are quests and that the elizabeths mini task count, but they are very repetative (except a few).

i hear the elder scrolls daggerfall is stupidly big. it can literally take weeks to get from one end of the map to the other on foot. in terms of size its bogger than alot of MMOs. i dont know how long the game can go on for though. the longest non MMO i have played is morrowind+expansions....ive easily put 300+ hours into it. great game...i just wish it would stop locking up my xbox now (i was playing it again last night). i could see myself put more time into X reunion though if i really got stuck in.

Most of Daggerfall is ridiculously bland though. You COULD spend weeks running from one side to another, but I COULD spend weeks counting the blades of grass in my yard. Just because its possible, doesn't mean anyone is going to do it.

ToonTown is the greatest game of all time and deserves recognition. Although, I do admit that the end-game is a bit of a grind, it doesn't really matter, considering it offers hundreds upon thousands of hours of other stuff to do before you finally get there.

The Witcher 70 hours? No not really more like 30-40 hours if you include all side quests, unmarked quests and mini games. F3 same time as The Witcher unless you explore every area will it rich 100+ hours but I don't think there's a reason for that since most areas are cut&paste anyway. Although if you include exploring EVERY single area then I suggest you try TES II Daggerfall, see you in a couple of years :P

I did almost everything possible in my first play-through (although I undoubtedly missed a bunch of side-quests), and it took me around 50 hours. I hear that the average time for other players was around 50, although I've heard of people taking even longer in their first play-through.
30 just doesn't seem long enough...odd.
