I just beat Borderlands today and it was great, I'm excited to see what they'll do in Borderlands 2. (I won't get it right away, I'll wait for GOTY edition.)
What did everyone else here think of it?

There was lots of guns that did the same thing.

What killed enemies? couldn't that apply to every game, particularly shooters, ever?
I bought it during the steam summer sale and I've played 8 hours or something, pretty f*cking boring tbh.
I didn't like it, but more power to you if you're looking forward to the sequel. I just couldn't get into it.
It was a good game...
Nothing exeptional,nothing mindblowing...
Just some solid,simple FPS fun...
Would've been better if I had some RL friends to play with, though. But I'm not allowed to have friends :P
Still,looking forward to the sequel...

Hoenstly I played it solo as well and still had a blast.

Haha yeah. Not what I mean though.
They promised gazillions of guns, but I was dissapointed it was a gimmick. Even though it was obvious.

Well the thing about the game, one of the reasons it's addicting is because, amidst all the guns that are basically useless to you, you may find that one gun that puts all others to shame... It's about finding the next big item.

Yeah, only some quests were literally impossible without co-op partners, like that creature in General Knoxx DLC...
though it's one of my favorites of this gen, i have to agree with this. gearbox would brag about the thousands of different guns, but in reality, 99.99% of them were the same guns with minor tweaks. but Borderlands 2 seems to be adding a lot more gun diversity, so I'm exited for it.There was lots of guns that did the same thing.

I beat him solo, though i did have to cheese it a bit :?Well it's a Diablo-style Action RPG dungeon crawler in FPS. It's not surprising that there were lots of guns that did the same thing. There was lots of guns that did the same thing.

Dont most guns do the same thing? Kill? Kidding. On topic, I tried when it came out because my friends were all over it, to get into it. I just couldnt. And I cant narrow down why. I like cell shaded, I like the idea of an RPG like shooter, but I just couldnt get into this game. There was lots of guns that did the same thing.

Great Game and great artstyle but FAR FAR too repetitive and for a game that boasts a bazillion guns most were pretty much the exact same thing
Oh c'mon, people areexpecting too much.
It was fun with some friends, doing stupid stuff like hijacking each other's vehicles and shooting random stuff.
Borderlands 2 is going to be great!
It was **** boring. Downloaded it during Steams free weekend, and stopped playing after 20 minutes. **** was just too boring and I didn't like the gunplay either.
Really fun with friends, but anything is really fun with friends. Won't be buying the sequel unless it has some actual content.
BLA... i been so attempted buy the game mutiply times off steam sales for 5-7 bucks even on release. but i never did. something kept pushing me away
Then steam put it up on a free weekend game i played about 2-3hrs. and i got one thing to say
GLAD I DID NOT. Quest was stupid, guns felt same with different reskins.
My old roommate let me give it a try for a few days back about a year ago or so, and it just seemed kinda boring and generic. I really hated the art style too, just wasn't my cup of tea.
Oh c'mon, people are expecting too much.DrTrafalgarLawI didn't even really know what the game was about until I played it. All I knew was it was going to be a shooter, and what I saw in that trailer before they made the art style swap. And a game should not require multiplayer to be "fun" or even tolerable (which Borderlands was hard pressed to be). Any game, unless designed as a stand-alone multiplayer experience (i.e. CS, DoD, BF2, etc.) should have an as good, or better singleplayer experience. It should be able to stand by itself without the need for "friends". And I played a large portion of the opening area of the game (first 4-5 hours) in splitscreen co-op, with a friend whom I usually play co-op with. It was a great first impression... then things went down hill quickly after I bought my own copy, and I realized the only reason I was playing the game was for the next bigger, rarer piece of loot. It's like a MMO, only without the vast community of human beings to interact with.
It was really fun and addicting, but in single player it lacked the substance of a game like Fallout or the amazing combat of RAGE and really was a good hybrid meant for co-op. Still, I put in like 30 hours and I'm still not finished so I loved it.
One of my favorite titles this gen and my third most played game this gen as well. I maxed every character, DLC and all, twice lol. Some single player and some co-op. Made no difference to me.
Pretty much non-existent story
Good art style but repetitive and lonely environments
Adequate shooting mechanics
Tedious fetch or "kill so many creatures"quests
Great fun in co-op
Different classes that played legitimately differently encourages a few different replays
The worst ****ing final boss battle in any game, ever.
Overall, the game for me is a wash, but I do think that it set the groundwork for Borderlands 2 to be really great.
