I have a couple I could think of.

  • Bought too many games at launch
    • I have Hogwarts, Pikmin 4, Super Mario RPG, that I still haven’t played yet lol.
  • Bought too much digital
    • despite digital being more convenient, physical is still king!

How about you, SW? What are your gaming regrets of 2023?

I bought Dead Space on a Steam Sale (it was still nearly full price) and then it came to Game Pass ARGGGH.

Can’t really think of any to be honest. Have a bunch of games that I purchased still waiting to be played but I don’t regret that. Have enjoyed all the games that I’ve purchased so far.

I squandered too much time posting on gaming forums that I should have spent playing video games.

Nothing really, enjoyed everything I played this year. Be it 2023 games, or dipping into stuff I missed, was just one great game after another.

I had to take over a month off SF6, got busy with life shit. Champ surpassed me. 😭 I can't let that stand.

otherwise

Taking a lot of time to get through Super Mario Bros Wonder. In my defense though, I was unable to play for quite a while (I have a mental handicap). I finally beat it last night and I loved the final boss fight. Overall it's an excellent game. I just wish I had been more proactive.

Life was good this year. Avoided the consoles and felt like missed very little. I destroyed my backlog too.... I'd say my biggest regret is filling my backlog up again at steam sales. I could've been more prudent. Those games are on sale all the time and to the patient goes the spoils....

I purchased only Zelda at launch.... And quite honestly it's one of the only franchises I still feel are worthy of a day 1 purchase.

None. Minimised gaming a bit this year. Went on too many holidays. Been a great year for me and the only games i got day 1 is FF16 and Spiderman 2. Currently having a blast with RE4 and Hogwarts Legacy.

I paid $89.99 for EA NHL 24 thinking after 20+ years of making the game, this is the year for a good game.

Deep down I’m alright with it though because I don’t buy many stinkers. The last games I bought that were below my expectations, 1-3 years ago, were Advance Wars 1+2 Reboot, and Mario Odyssey: Those games weren’t complete stinkers but below my expectations.

Not making as much progress through my backlog.

Ah well, no biggie, there's always 2024.

Just need to spend less time on building and factory games haha. Those things are time sinks.

None. I barely purchased anything. Oh wait, dropped Days Gone for being bland. But at least I can tell the PlayStation fanboys that it's super average, like PlayStation itself.

Buying Diablo 4 and spending over 300h of my life in that shit game. Holy shit that game is bad. Its like a husk sold to you at a premium, with a massive marketing budget that allows them to move copies, even tho their game i extremely mediocre.

I regret getting outbid at the last second on Ebay when I was bidding on a copy of the super rare Panzer Dragoon Saga, thought I had it at $1,150, but someone came in and got it for $1,200, bastard lol.

I regret finishing Sea of Stars. It was that perfect worse case scenario level of quality of "pretty good" where it was good enough for me to want to keep playing but bad enough to be the worst game for me to spend more than 5 hours playing it. If the game was worse, it would have been trivial to drop it early on saving me time, and if it was better I would have had a good time playing it in hindsight.

It isn't. Same useless stats. Same boring and unexciting loot. Zero endgame. No long term progression of any kind. The game is a shitshow. Now, if you play the game casually, say couple of hours a week, then sure, its "improved", but if you play this casually, vanilla game should already be perfectly suiting for you. If you play this the way a grindy game is meant to be played, D4 is the definition of laughing stock.

You're a casual who sits on this forum all day and night who has his games running in the background to inflate your total hours "played"

I wouldn't expect you to understand retro gaming because you're a junior when it comes to gaming.

Was thinking of getting it to play with friends. You didn't like? If so, any specific reason why? I personally found the first game pretty dull and repetitive.

Baldur's Gate 3. I completed it, but after 1st Act, the game was a gradual let down and was not worth the full price.

None. I rarely day 1 a game anymore. I do a lot of research on if I'll enjoy a game. I don't have time to waste on games I may not enjoy.

I've spent enough time with all 3 consoles this year to feel I've warranted the purchase of all 3.

Overall 2023 was a good gaming year for me.

@Litchie: If you are playing with friends, the experience would most likely be better. The game feels clunky to play, the camera is still too tight and every boss encounter feels like a reskin of the last one mechanically. I was not a fan of the first and I was under impression it was a better game than the first. I can't say I agree. However, if you vibe with the first game then you are set.👍

I kinda fell by the wayside with the whole "learning how to actually make a game" endeavour. Playing games took over...dam games...with their fun times :P.

Going to get back into it again next year. Godot 4 is out. The place that does courses is in the process of revamping all their stuff for 4. A good time to dust myself down and go again.

Not being more patient on some sales. Not because the price wasnt ideal, but because I knew I wouldn't be playing the game anytime soon. Need to be more patient in some ways.

I kinda wish I had waited to get a Steam Deck during the Summer sale instead of Spring. Bigger discount , especially on the 512 gb model.

Wish I had grabbed MGS5 for $5. Looks like Konami has jacked up its sale price.

Also wish I hadn't bought Shovel knight king of cards. Now I can't bring myself to buy Treasure Trove.

I bought the $100 version of Starfield for early access when I should've just waited for the Game Pass version.

It'll be worth it when official mod support comes, but not worth the $100 I spent.

Still a fun game though.

Bought a lemon of a PS Vita. Can't swap out the battery cause the screws are stripped. Got modded the wrong way. Touch screen only works sometimes. Going to get a better one hopefully at the beginning of the year.
