What are your favorite cast of characters in a game?

I’m going with Final Fantasy 7. Cloud Strife and Avalanche, Shinra, The Turks, all of the great side characters (Cid, Red XIII, Cait Sith, Vincent), Sephiroth, Zack Fair and more. Final Fantasy 7 is full of personality, story, and charm. No wonder it’s so memorable! How about you, SW? What are your favorite cast of characters in a game?

Between RDR2 and Mass Effect 2.

Either Dragon Age Origins, Mass Effect 2, Fallout: New Vegas, or Dragon Quest XI.

Knights of the Old Republic come to mind. You've got the standard plucky scoundrel and Chewbacca archetypes. But you also had the badass Mandolorian decades before Disney made a series about them, a sarcastic Grey Jedi always dishing out burns, a love interest Jedi struggling with her duality, and best of all, a homicidal assasin Droid that says the funniest and savage comments at all times.

Final Fantasy 7 for sure. Even though I renamed everyone. I miss games where we could rename the characters.

Persona 4 has a very good cast.

Most of the Bioware games, new and old, have good cast.

• Mass Effect across the original trilogy just had a lot of great party members, both throughout all three games and new additions.
• Dragon Age often had good characters, but I really enjoyed all of them in Dragon Age: Inquisition

Larian Studio's games, much like Bioware, tends to have really good character.

• Red Prince and Lhose from Original Sin 2 were great, as the others were.
• Baldur's Gate 3 has some amazing characters and I'm still learning about them.

Half-Life might seem like an odd choice but Alyx is amazing, as are the supporting cast of scientists.

Greatly enjoyed the characters in Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door. I'm a big Punio fan.

Mass effect, KOTOR and FFIV.... My kind of crews.

Never played the Original, looking forward to the Remake!

Hard to pick one.

Most recently Xenoblade 3 sticks out. I thought they did a great job with the group of main characters and some of the hero characters too. Eunie was brilliant.

I was playing Baldurs Gate 1 and 2 also and they have some great characters. Irenicus, despite being not in BG2 all that much, is one of the great bads. So is Sarevok for that matter. Looks like a dumb tanky meat head.....not a meat head at all. Khalid thought me about the better parts of valour.

• On the matter of Aerie: Teenage me was all "oh god Aerie is sad, i must listen while she vents NO MATTER WHAT!!". Adult me is more "We are in a dungeon and you want to vent about your wings now...of all times...at this place....while we are surrounded by undead hordes? Can you fire off some spells at lease? NO NOT AT JAHERIA!". Ive gotten cynical in my old age :P.

FF7 is also one of the greats. Even with Remake, when they remake and build on the original content the game is at its strongest characters wise.

Honestly it's been so long, I swear I've forgotten most of it. That's why it'll feel like I'm playing it for the first time.

All I remember is that the characters you met were great, and that I was laughing the whole time.

The cast of Disco Elysium is great. A lot of broken and despicable people.

Final Fantasy 6 (though the cool characters lose some of their individual charm once you find out that everybody can use magic - even a thief like Locke!).

I have to mention Defender of the Crown (Commodore 64) where you encounter cool characters such as Wilfred of Ivanhoe, Brian de Bois Guilbert, and Roger Falconbridge.

The characters in G. I. Joe (Commodore 64) were super awesome and had cool weapons. At least when you were a kid back in 1985.

FF7 had a great cast most except Cait Sith & Red XIII been hugely popular. Yuffie and Vincent now officially canon and Vincent even have his own game even though they were just hidden characters in the original game.

Agree with Final Fantasy VII. That's still the gold standard to this day. Each of the Avalanche crew members was fleshed-out with their own personality, backstory, motivations and relationships... Yes, even Cait Sith! (Once you realize it's Reeve.) The Avalanche crew also felt like a gang of friends, with the way they always interact and banter with each other. It's details like these that made you invested in the cast and their journey. This was at the heart of what made FFVII the phenomenon it was.

It has to be Breath of Fire 3, although 2 is close.
