What do you guys think?

There is no universe in which this works. Unless they get the Spec Ops: The Line guys to work on this, and even then, there's like, a 10% chance this might work. At best.
Wouldn't it essentially be Spec Ops: The Line? That was based off the the same book Apocalypse Now is.
Going to be another generic millitary FPS with MP. I think there is appocalapse now game and its called Homefront

Jesus Christ man. Do you ever think before you type? What in the high heavens does Apocalypse Now have to do with Homefront?
Never mind. I'm positive you've never seen Apocalypse now, at least not to completion. You don't have the patience or eye for nuance required to get what that joint has to give.
On topic though, this is probably the most unnecessary movie to game adaptation I've ever heard of. I'm terrified at how many ways this could go wrong.
Though if it does happen, better have a napalm surfing minigame.
CHARLIE DON'T SURF!
@zombieproof: hopefully it doesn't flop like ghostbusters
You know, that game was actually pretty damn good. Sucks that it flopped because the production values, game play, tone, and characters felt a helluva lot like the movies.

Would a survival horror RPG be essentially the same as Spec Ops: The Line? Just because the story share similar themes doesn't mean the gameplay has to be the same.

I didn't mean it literally. Just pointing out that the themes from the book/film do translate quite well to games, but it's something that has already been done.
Already played Spec Ops The Line. And it was damn good.
No. Just no on this one. What next? Shawshank Redemption? Leave it.
I would love a Shawshank Redemption adventure game.

I still don't see how that's a reason not to make the game, especially when it's a radically different game, even if the themes are similar.
No. Just no on this one. What next? Shawshank Redemption? Leave it.
And what the hell would be wrong with that? A GOOD game based on the Shawshank Redemption would be fantastic. The story is much more compelling than 99.9% of the nonsense you get in video games. If anything I'd like to see more games take inspiration from great movies.

Correct, Joseph Conrad's novella was the inspiration for Spec Ops.
So not sure how they figured out the rights to make this...

Not really though, Spec Ops only worked at conveying how bullshit military shooters are and their ilk are. It was more critical of games, it wasn't able to say anything more than that about broader subject matters as it pertains to war stories and such because....it was criticizing crap shooters by actually being a crap shooter at the same time.
It's more Apocalypse Now in spirit, in its obvious homages to Heart of Darkness, less because it nails what's great about Apocalypse Now. Plus Spec Ops the Line has the benefit of no one expecting it to match up to Apocalypse Now on a thematic level. A game with that title? I expect a lot better.

I get that the game will most likely be quite different. I just find it hard to get excited for something that so far is nothing more than a concept, and the basics of that concept have already been done before.
If it had a trailer or something I would have a different reaction.
"Apocalypse Now is a first-person RPG"
"You will engage in dialog, like in most roleplaying games, but you are a Special Forces operative, so your dialog will be like Captain Willard's dialog."
lol this is gonna be great.
I'd rather play some 8-bit garbage that has me swinging pitfall style in the jungle than whatever mess this would turn out to be.
If I can chop a cow with a machete then I'm in
Me too.
I would actually get a good laugh if they included that part in the game. It could be like a parody. Just make fun of the movie's pretentiousness.

They've got talent behind it- talent who have already been involved in successful kickstarters. Hopefully they'll have a gameplay trailer up soon so we actually know what we're dealing with. I find the idea of an Apocalypse Now RPG quite intriguing, and I don't find much in gaming intriguing anymore so I'm keeping an eye on it.

I Was going to say, didn't they already kinda-sorta do this with Spec Ops: The Line?
Anyway, it's a story we have all heard, and I don't think making a video game of it is the best way to get it to the younger generation.
I would argue this is a game no one wants, no one asked for.
I'm not sure how that would work, but intrigued somewhat. At least the soundtrack will be good.
assuming they can afford it. That's like 500k in licensing fees :P
