Turns out the Xbox almost did become a spybox!

Lems paying $500 for an NSA spycam. Who's to say they aren't spying on people now.

@MlauTheDaft:

Unless the camera is on, not just the microphone, and the xbox is set up to transmit camera data out while the xbox is off, this is just inaccurate.

So the question is, is that the case?

Lets not be naive

The xbone STILL is a spy box

Microsoft IS the biggest partner of the NSA and the biggest supporter of PRISM

Microsoft has already been caught HANDING over millions of users' skype and outlook information to the NSA

NO other company has happily handed off more date to the NSA then Microsoft

NO other company has been as supportive of PRISM as Microsoft has been

When people say Microsoft is pure evil corporate scum they mean it.

Never mind the fact Microsoft already tried to butcher consumer rights with their always online xbone DRM schemes.

Never mind the fact that damn near every xbone feature is hidden behind the pay wall extortion fees of xbox live

No one should EVER trust Microsoft

Microsoft has proven again and again how anti-consumer they are

It even says in the xbone terms of agreement that Microsoft has the right to gather info on you with Kinect and do what ever they want with it...so its like lol...all you have to do is put two and two together here

Whats pathethic is that the xbone is a spy box, has a secondary focus on gaming, and is INSANELY UNDER-POWERED....AND YET it STILL costs 500$....thats just absurd. Microsoft is beyond greedy..

The PS4 does gaming to perfection, its more then 50% more powerful, it has NO forced spy cam....and it costs 100$ less (Thank you Sony)

The PS4 does everything better for less. Has better exclusive developers. A better exclusive library. Will get the best versions of multi-plats. Has more support from Sony. Sony is more willing to take risks on unique games etc

In every criteria that can be seen or proven, the PS4 crushes the xbone and it costs much less to boot

Its awesome to see that the PS4 is out selling the xbone 2-1 ...and counting...

The xbone is such a joke, I feel like this has been a social experiment lol. The rare amount of "people" who were dumb enough to pick xbone over PS4 have now been marked as expendable sheep to be taken out lol

But for real, **** Micorsoft. Microsoft needs to be burnt to the ground for all the bullshit theyve commited against gamers and against Sony with their FUD and shills

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Seal_bug

this is pretty much the basis for all cellphone technology,

and this was invented in the 1940's,

and doesn't even need power to operate.

now would it be out of the realm of possibility,

that this has been improved upon in the last 70 years?

maybe they can extract video without electricity.

I'm not worried, I'm sure there's more interesting people to monitor on their Kinect censors, laptops, cell phones, including actual people of interest, but when it comes into bored voyeurism I'm sure there's more interesting things to monitor than myself, like hot girls in their nighties checking their Facebook pages and emails.

Microsoft knows how big your living room is, they just want to offer viewing distance options to make up for the resolution difference however.

It's pretty obvious Kinect is used by the NSA or at the very least a targeted by the NSA, you would have the be an idiot to think otherwise.

Just think would the NSA do it to you... Microsoft doesn't even need to be aware that they are doing it. The NSA and GCHQ have teams of hackers working on gathering data from everywhere and the Kinect would be a viable target, does the Xbox still have it's network open when turned off for updates / downloads? if so it could do it from standby mode. Also there is nothing stopping the Xbox from recording all the audio into it's main ram while in standby then saving that audio data to the hard drive and uploading it to Microsoft when taken out of standby mode. Or even better the Xbox TTS system could act like a voice logger and send just a encrypted text file back to Microsoft to be even more sneaky.

The NSA have been explosed putting nasty piece of code into other products and hacking routers, all it takes is one employee at MS to put in code without anyone knowing and boom everything you say in your living room is posted back to MS, and they know you have said it because the camera has confirmed your identity by you signing in via face recognition.

The only way anyone could be sure if they are not doing it is by sniffing the network and decrypting the data stream it to see what info is in it. Or hack the system decrypt the firmware and reverse engineer the code. Neither of these are easy to do. Be interesting to see what the results are if someone does it.

@tyloss: that's the problem, this mentality. The chances of there being a terrorist attack is almost zero. The bombing in Boston, NSA did a great job stopping that before it happened (/sarcasm). Also what about the Snowden leak? Copied millions of documents that can cripple the US financially, crooked contractor. You might be ok with giving up your rights but the chances of you dying from a car accident is leaps and bounds higher than you being a victim of terrorism.

Losing your rights it's easy, to get them back will take a civil war...

It's all just a scare tactic and people are buying it. Plus the NSA isnt really the most honest bunch, I mean the president had to scale back their tactics and who knows if they're even following that.

It's sad knowing some stupid thread about resolutions & some magical SDK dev kit somehow surpassing technical logicality can reach a dozen pages,

But a thread regarding the safeguarding of ones privacy through a camera that is bundled into a "home entertainment system" is being neglected.

This SHOULD be a hot topic, and even a debate on whether gaming is heading into the right direction; or are we treading in dangerous waters.

But NOPE, let's talk about secret sauce and insider claims from MrXmedia or whatever the hell that guys name is.

Umm no. Laptop porn as you put it gets out because A: People are stupid and do things they shouldn't do, B: Trust people they shouldn't do with photos and videos of such acts. People actually upload nude photos of themselves on Photobucket and IMGUR which can actually be displayed on the main page and that is how they get out. Hackers have better things to do with their time instead of wasting it looking for nudes.

@eisen_howl: sad world honestly the US says it's supposed to be the land of the free and free speech and whatever when it's so big brother now a days because people are afraid of their own shadows. There's is no land of the free or free speech anymore because the government wants to know what you say, where you are etc etc that's a huge privacy invasion that you are being monitored everyday so "they can protect your freedom".

Let me remind you, Sony Eye Toy is literally a Webcam, which is the video you are talking about. And honestly, your get more spying by your phone, GPS, WiFi location, your conversation, your text message, password press in the phone, notification feeds, the face cam looking at you when you are using your phone, the back cam looking at where you might points to, to further gather the party you are attending if you didn't point the camera down. It can even steal your credit card information that supports tap to pay. It also can steal your passport info because all passport includes that same tap to send chip in the cover. If you want to be paranoid, now is the time to panic.

This is a little off-topic, but i've always found it funny how everyone whos against having their guns taken away are justifying it by saying:

"What if our government commits Tyranny?! How are we to fight back?!"

- And yet, here we are, not doing a damn thing about it.

The same kinds of people who willingly set up a camera and microphone in their bedrooms and living rooms are the ones who post on facebook every five minutes to tell people what they're doing and where they're at, even if they're uninteresting and unattractive.
