They better NOT make a PRO version of the PS5/XSX

Anyone else dislike the fact that the PS4 and Xbone had a pro version? The PS4 pro and Xbox one X was pointless IMO, all we did was pay extra for some minor graphical uprades...we could have stayed with the base models until next gen. I'm hoping next gen won't have this as the consoles will be powerful enough.

The Pro and One X were excuses to get more money from consumers, while also having the also terrible side effect of stretching the generation another three years (much like how the PS3 rebranding and the Kinect stretched the previous generation a lot).

MS and Sony will certainly try it again since it worked out well for them. And since Nintendo normally already did this for the DS and 3DS, then I'm sure they'll do it for the Switch as well.

If it's sufficient, and optional, then i'm in. I upgrade components on my PC to accentuate the graphics/performance.

As far as I’m aware, a large part of making the Pro was to better PSVR.

I gamed on PC and didn’t have a regular PS4. I bought a Pro and pretty much gave up PC gaming since the Pro is more powerful than my PC.

I don’t care if there is a mid-gen upgrade as long as the original plays all games, like now.

My, our, opinion doesn’t matter to them anyway and they’ll do whatever they want. I’m guessing you would need a petition of 20 million people or maybe the majority of PS gamers for them to take you seriously.

The question you should be asking here is: "does launching a mid-generation upgrade make more money for the console manufacturers?"

If the answer to that question is yes, then it will happen, and you're SOL.

When the pro and 1X came out all I could think was “why bother when new consoles are coming out soon?” I don’t understand why anyone bought those.

I thought the Xbox One X was a pretty decent upgrade to the Xbox One. Comparatively the PS4 Pro didn’t seem all that worthwhile though. I really don’t mind mid gen upgrades myself. I don’t really see these next gen systems getting a similar mid gen upgrade at least all that soon though. They’re pretty beefy as is and if they do get an upgraded model it probably won’t be until they’ve been on the market for like four years. It’s not like you have to buy them either so it’s like whatever.

I upgraded both systems when I got a 4k tv, and there's a clear difference as far as HDR is concerned: Greater contrast between dark and light, and the biggest difference maker is the vivid, deep and richer colors.

A Pro version 4 years after the original system's launch is good. What's bad is the useless upgrade we got this gen. Keeping the same garbage cpu's, sell your new systems for $400, and call it an upgrade is laughable. If you're unable to do a proper upgrade of your cpu, gpu and ram, then do no upgrades at all. Half baked shit is pointless.

People are on crack. The Xbox One X is a huge upgrade over the basic bitch Xbox One. Much more stable frame rates, much higher resolution, smoother performance and a way better gaming experience.

I bought a PS4 in 2014 and it's still providing the best AAA game experiences so far this gen.

Why would I be upset about a "Pro" console as long as my base system is supported to the maximum capability for the latest games?

Actually it's the "Pro" users who I laugh at and I would be mad about getting because it never gets the full utilization out of their system because of all games still being programmed to the capability of the base consoles first.

No, I'll get the base and be fine know I'll get the maximum potential out the hardware I'm buying an entire generation. I'll get a Pro version if I suddenly care about an added spit shine.

If only there is a revolutionary technology for consoles that allow hardware upgrades like upgrading firmware or software instead of buying separate enhanced versions of hardware.

MS and Sony usually follow AMD's road map. Besides "bang per buck" argument, another major reason for selecting AMD is constant CPU and GPU evolution with backwards compatibility.

How did the PS4 pro and X1X actually do in terms of sales? the impression i get from both camps is that neither of those models seemed to set the sales charts alight. in terms of unit sales since the refreshed models released; neither refreshed model sold as much as the base model in the same time frame as i understand it.

They may not bother if the sales of the current mid gen refreshes didn't really do big numbers.

anywho personally i don't think the Pro or the x1x should exist but it's not a catastrophe. more just a waste.

in fairness to sony and MS they didnt make any PS4 pro or X1X exclusives so as long as they treat the idea like that (just the same games as the base models with better performance/visuals) then its not a big deal.

Not sure about ms they always seem to release a refresh 3 years in. The power of the x series will probably see them through the generation. Sony I doubt after the pro hasn't been all that great.

If you want to put it in perspective, X1X released in 2017 when Xbox One overall sales were just under 30 million units.

Even if we were to PRETEND that ALL sales of Xbox One were X1X units after 2017 (we know by far that's not the case but humor me)

That means Switch completely lapped Xbox serise X by over passing not only it, but both the original 30 million XB1 sales all together.

I own both and have no regrets. Specifically the X having Control and RDR2 running noticeable better than any of the other console versions and being two of my favourite games this gen, I can't complain.

Now, I'm not going to give Sony the handicap I gave MS because there was a statistic from Sony that said about 1 in ever 5 PS4's sold was a Pro or 20% of total PS4 sales. Taking that metric...

We'll use that same 2020, 106 million, PS4 sale figure for this break down.

or simply 21 million PS4 Pro sales.

This isn't that much better than the X1X figure I came up with...lol however, the X1X figure was came up with by pretending that zero Xbox 1 S units were sold from 2017 til 2020.

Bought my PS4 on launch day and from there, I never bother upgrading to the Pro, it just wasn't my best interest and since I do use the console to play exclusive games, my gaming PC just does everything I needed to. I'm sure both Sony/MS will do a upgrade version down the line but ask yourself this. Do you really need to upgrade? They are always optional, its a personal choice for the consumer.

I myself am glad I bought an XB1X. I would have bought a PS4 Pro had I known it was coming out but didn't until I already got base model, and I don't play it enough to justify upgrade beyond waiting for next generation BC instead.

The Xbox One X was a sizable upgrade from the original and the S model. Quite a lot of games ran at 4K 60FPS.

But I guess the latter models of PS5 and Series X will probably be aiming for 60FPS 8K and 120 FPS 4K? I am just guessing here. I don't plan to buy a new TV for a few years.

I was simply showing the GRAPHICS did not have any significant change to represent the 5Tflop advantage a system like X1X should show over X1. There was nothing false about the picture I posted. I can post a 720p picture of The Avatar that has has better *graphics* than any 4k game you can provide.

FYI: increased resolution doesn't make graphics better, it only helps to see the graphics that are already there.
