How did the PS4 pro and X1X actually do in terms of sales? the impression i get from both camps is that neither of those models seemed to set the sales charts alight. in terms of unit sales since the refreshed models released; neither refreshed model sold as much as the base model in the same time frame as i understand it.
They may not bother if the sales of the current mid gen refreshes didn't really do big numbers.
anywho personally i don't think the Pro or the x1x should exist but it's not a catastrophe. more just a waste.
in fairness to sony and MS they didnt make any PS4 pro or X1X exclusives so as long as they treat the idea like that (just the same games as the base models with better performance/visuals) then its not a big deal.
If you want to put it in perspective, X1X released in 2017 when Xbox One overall sales were just under 30 million units.
29.4 Million Xbox One Consoles Sold Worldwide Through 2017, EA Reveals

Curiously the Nintendo Switch released the same year at 0 total sales!
Fast forward 2 years and some change...
Nintendo has once again been able to stake its claim as one of the big players in the console gaming market. However, Sony can still claim to be king of the consoles, with unit sales of its PlayStation 4 creeping towards the 100 million mark in 2019. Microsoft’s contribution, the Xbox One, is lagging some way behind as sales of the consoles are still below 50 million units worldwide. In December 2019, the Nintendo Switch surpassed the Xbox One in terms of lifetime console sales

AMD released their total console sales of 150 million (they would know better than anyone)

After it was revealed we discovered that MS had only sold 46 million units with Sony announcing their 106 million sold figure at the time.
Even if we were to PRETEND that ALL sales of Xbox One were X1X units after 2017 (we know by far that's not the case but humor me)
That means Switch completely lapped Xbox serise X by over passing not only it, but both the original 30 million XB1 sales all together.
51 million Nintendo Switches >>>>>>>16 million X1X in the same time period
And remember I'm pretending ZERO X1S's were sold in 2 years to help X1X out here. lol
