The greatest racing game in my opinion

Every Mario Kart game after this one kept making things more complicated. For me Mario Kart was always a simple kart racer between some of your favorite Mario characters. 64 was still fun but it's gone overboard at this point.

Of course, I am not a fan of racing games for the most part so take my opinion keeping that in mind.

I would say the likes of PGR 2, PGR 4, Forza 1, Forza 3, Burnout 3, Super Mario Kart, Mario Kart 64, Diddy Kong Racing are on top of the list.

GT3>F2>Tokyo Extreme racer>F3>GT4>GT5P>Mario kart DS thats the list of my best racing games.

Came here to post F-Zero GX. So I will. F-Zero GX is the best racing game. It's so good, it's set in the future and is faster than speed itself.

Of course, Burnout 3 is great and the best in the series, but its trial and error course design was a big flaw for me.

I personally liked Motorstorm: Pacific Rift. Course, I'm not the biggest fan of racing games, so that could be the reason.

IMO its Burnout 2, loved that game to death
