Starfield doesn't even deserve to be running for GOTY at the Game Awards 2023

I am sorry to be so blunt, but as someone who has played the game through twitch streams and youtube reviews, this game doesn't deserve to be anywhere near the 5 games running for GOTY.

Here's my list of games that should be running for GOTY this year.

• Baldur's Gate 3
• Zelda ToTK
• Mario Wonder
• Alan Wake 2
• Resident Evil 4 Remake

I understand this will of course enrage our local lemmings, but lets not beat around the bush, outside of F76, Starfield is inferior to everything made by Bethesda since the 90's. That is obviously not good enough to be running for GOTY during such a banger year.

Don't know, don't care as i've never played it or any of the other soon to be nominees for that matter.

GOTY awards are for casuals on here to use as a dick waving contest. Real gamers don't care.

A game that's 83 on meta to win game of the year??? It would have to be a bad video game year.

Considering how many hours i've invested in Bethesda titles from Oblivion and on, i wouldn't be surprised if i am the one who knows bethesda games more than anybody on SW.

Edit: If you want to hear my final thoughts on Starfield, you should go read my last post in the hype thread as I gave it a 6/10 for a reason.

The 6/10 you've given is what i was considering this game without even playing it. When you've invested close to 1k hours into their games, you know exactly what to expect, and when they split their game into a thousand loading screens that load you into empty rock collecting adventures, no, that's not a video game.

Bethesda has always been "Steam Sale" material.

Just game journos never actually play PC RPGS so they are easily impressed.

as somebody who has 5 days 11 hours into the game like myself its a 9-10

Bethesda fans of which there are many will mostly agree with the ball park score i put it in.not being as good as skyrim or you wanting better take of mechanics are subjective...after seeing your ship take off a few times the default thing to do is go to the mission your on and hit travel

You have your base,home decorating and ship building

Main story

Side quests

Follower storylines

Faction storylines

Space combat

Skill,crafting and levelling them up.

Planet exploration

A Good amount of main cities and smaller areas full of quests and outlets for gear.

Read it and I think most people echo the same sentiments.

The game just really lacks any personality, or much in the way of imagination. It was supposed to be 70s retrofuturism, but I see no inspiration from 70s film and literature in there.

Just a mostly dry world, that captures none of the charm of the sci-fi from that area. There were aliens galore, in sci-fi from that area, and all sorts of weird stuff.

Bethesda seriously need to stop designing their entire character system around perks. They are a supplement, not the main meal. Perks are like spices. They can add a lot of flavor to your meal. But you want more than just spices on your plate. And because they got rid of the skill system. Most perks now have to be changed, so they now effectively fill the void left by skills. So most perks that do exist are simply a boring +20% modifier rather than new ways to play the game.

Lems’ tactic is to live in disbelief. It’s much easier that way.

Haven't played Starfield, but from what I've seen/heard/understood, I very much agree.

No chance at being GOTY, but it will probably get some undeserved award where they still act like the game was good.

It's because they've already 100% completed Spider-Man 2 and have to fill the time until Wolverine comes out.

Bethesda are in danger of becoming the new Ubisoft. They seem to be releasing identi-kit, will-this-do clones of games without much, if any, innovation.

They really need a kick up the arse but this will not happen inside the Game Pass model where the idea is to sell subscriptions and not games. People will, of course, subscribe to see the new Bethesda game. If they do not like it MS do not care along as they can keep them subscribed to play other games.

They should be listening to criticism and this criticism should not be "managed" as just Sony fan-boyism.

Funny thing you mentioned it. After having tried it for a little bit, i would give it a 7, maybe a 7.5/10. Very similar to Starfield score on gs lmao.

I've only seen a little bit of Baldurs Gate and I think that this will win GOTY. I've been very impressed with the amount I've seen, especially voice acting. :O

Voice acting, dialogue/writing and choices are unmatched.

Heck, it has no chance even if you use the 87MC from PC.

It's between Starfield and Baldur's Gate 3, as far as I am concerned.

I mean there are obviously a lot of other games released in 2023--this has been an AMAZING year for games, and I hope they get recognized--but they're simply not as popular as these two.

You can maybe argue Spider-Man 2 should be the third contender thrown in there, but...meh. Has seemed kind of underwhelming.

That user score is heavily deflated by people review bombing the game. Their are way more negative user scores than mixed which is not normal for a typical game.

Its a Bethesda game, its not supposed to have typical reviews. Not everyone accepts outdated design, the only thing Bethesda knows.

I am pretty sure that as far as popularity goes, Tears of the Kingdom and Baldur's Gate 3 are the most popular.

Tears of the Kingdom had 18.5 million copies sold as of 30th June. Diablo 4 sold over 10 million copies, but I don't know more than that.

Lets filter all the trash. BG3 will crush everything else, this is not an opinion, but factual information of the future.

BG3 is the likely favorite, but TOTK will do really well in the GOTY awards, likely claiming second place.

Over 10 million players and counting. That’s where his pain comes from….that and the realisation that his “My ps5 is absolutely useless” post was the only correct thing he’s posted.

But it's the most important game of all time, the end all be all, how could it not be the GOAT?

Alan Wake II is the perfect example of how stacked this year is with GOTY contenders, how fickle and near sighted we are. I don't think anybody has to worry about Starfield stealing the scene, but talking about it incessantly won't help either, perhaps even counter productive as it will keep remaining on everybody's minds going forward. If you truly hope for Starfield to be forgotten, that's gotta start with the haters.

It will automatically claim the second place because it has Zelda in the title. Since its mostly a rehashed botw, it doesn't deserve to be there, and a game such as AW2 is much more deserving.

I am not abandoning Infinite, don't you worry. Its the biggest low effort laughing stock of this generation, and ain't nobody is throwing it under the rug, and pretend the title was never released like Halo 5. You can call me a Halo Watch Professional, i track Halo misery, and remind everyone how much the IP has fallen.

It's actually the only game the deserves GOTY.

It's a decent game, but I don't think it's GOTY material. It doesn't feel like a step forward for the medium.

The most severe problem is that the fantasy of being a space explorer just doesn't work due to how they handled space travel and the lack of a land vehicle. I honestly would have rather have just three solar system that you could seamlessly fly around in and drive on, than having 100 of them...

Instead of hitting the features they really needed to hit (imo of course) they wasted a ton of resources on far less important things. Such a shame...

Or it was just a really solid game. Having Zelda in the title didn't save Skyward Sword HD.

But if we are gonna throw nonsense around. I might as well assume every RPG gets a bonus, just due to how mediocre most games in the genre is. When a game with a forgettable cast, weak combat mechanics, lack of quality of life and weak encounter design that relies on gimmicks as opposed to threats gets elevated to 10/10.

The last cRPG I would even consider good is Disco Elysium. Other than that, the genre has been a sea of garbage.
