Damn !

The first-person shooter sold approximately 6 million copies in November and an additional 6 million in December. At an average retail price of $55, Wedbush Securities analyst Michael Pachter told Fortune he believes the game has generated close to $660 million in earnings.

Star Wars Battlefront was the third-best selling game in the month of November behind Fallout 4 and Call of Duty: Black Ops 3. It was also one ofAmazon's best-selling games during the holiday season.

Source

With that price point , ppl did actually buy it. It definitely has a lot to do with the "Star Wars".

Mod Edit - No need for the all caps title.

Unfortunately I bought this as well. I have it on PC and its very pretty, but that's about it. Its very shallow and not really fun. I'm a star wars NUT and I cant bring myself to play it. If they took some more time on this game I think it could have been good, but I'm assuming they wanted to hit the Force Awakens release timeframe.

I'm not surprised. I do not know what their budget was for this magic but they heavily marketed it so The sales are expected

Been saying it for a long time, this is EA's Destiny. Shows that not much but marketing is needed to succeed.

Imagine how well it would have done if it was actually good. Hopefully the next one isn't rushed out with no depth and little content in order to release around the same time as the next movie.

Well deserves and let's be real, Battlefront was part of that hype train TFA and this isn't a surprise. I still play Battlefront every now and then.

You guys always fail to miss a big picture about some games you bash. Its easily accessible and casual focused. Its a game you can pop in for 30 mins and have some fun pew pewing. Outside of this forum, not many care about the lack of maps and lack of single player campaign. Who plays Battle front for single player anyway? Let another studio handle that.

And little effort was needed. It sold on name alone. Take that away and you have nothing but bread crumbs.

I'm not even bashing it, just being realistic here.

Easily accessible and casual focused isn't going put up numbers like that from any random IP. Especially when it's yet another multiplayer shooter that brings nothing new to the table in this overly saturated market.

Chalking up those massive numbers to the name Star Wars is a no brainer man.

It's actually a fun couch coop game. I've had people over to the new crib a few times the past month or so and everyone wants to play Star Wars. I also bought it on PC for the graphics. The game is a stunner on PC.

Lame games still sell millions, actual good games dont really sell.

A nice backwards world we live in. Just goes to show you if you slap a huge brand name on mediocre product, it will sell regardless.

Agreed. If it was just a regular game without all the Star Wars stuff then it would of flopped. The massive price and lack of content would of killed it but since its got Star Wars emblazoned it, it will sell like hotcakes no matter what.

So it sold 12 million copies yet only 270k are playing it daily across PS4, xbone, and PC combined

http://swbstats.com/

Either a good chunk of those copies were not sold to consumers or people bought it then immediately realized it sucked and stopped playing it.

The 12 million number is literally just Pachter guessing how many copies were sold.

Don't bother. A lot of posters here will hate on it despite never having played it and wanting to be the cool hipster that parrots what others say.

It's not a bad game at all.

@ConanTheStoner: Of course the name alone sold the game, but my point still stands. I would wager that the majority of users are not throwing a fit because there isn't a single player story. That is because they are super super casual. Remember the list of trending games Facebook recently published? Most of the games were ones we are all sick of and poke fun at I.e. Call of Duty, NBA 2K16, Halo 5 etc. I guess I'm saying we're the minority.

Seems about right. Big franchise (Star Wars) as part of another big franchise (Battlefield) selling a lot? No shit.

Pretty much sums up the internet all together. Everyone thinks they are an expert on everything. These same people come up in threads revealing they don't have PSN or Xbox Live or don't have a current gen console altogether. "I watched a lets play" or "I watched it on Twitch" makes people experts these days.

It is reflective of society in general. Most people are stupid or simple minded. It doesn't take much to entertain them. Publishers know this and exploit it. It is all about generating interest in a product and making it appear to be good rather than actually making it good. It just has to hit a few marks... strong brand = check, pretty graphics = check, quick player gratification = check. It is all about fooling people and making a good first impression. Franchises like COD and Halo have been fooling people for many years.

Yeah i know, but seriously it's still A LOT ! as far as i recall Bioshock Infinite sold like 6 million copies (lazy to google atm) and this multiplayer-only game within three months have reached this staggering sales ... this is not good.

That game is actually a lot of fun. Sure it has its flaws, and sure they're definitely exploiting the license and that damn season pass, but I'd be lying if I said it was anything other than a lot of fun still. I've easily put as many hours into it as I have many other full price retail games this year.

It's shallow and shitty in many ways but it's still quite entertaining in short bursts. I'm not surprised it sold well. LOL @ people who said it was going to flop. Bunch of idiots, you never bet against a Star Wars game when its movie is just right around the corner. This game could have been shit on a stick with a Star Wars sticker on it and it would have still sold. The hype for all things Star Wars related was too high for this game to fail.

I would have more fun with it if some of the glaring balance issues were fixed. The game is just annoying to play with so many "I win" playstyles that just can't be countered.

Most people are casuals, tools and have bad taste. They fall for hype, follow famous trends and wait for "next big thing". Intelligent games and movies are less famous and they are targeted for smaller but more intelligent market.

Transformers = More famous but dumb.

Children of Men = Less famous but better.

Have heard that matchmaking is shit as well

Tbh, i like to play this game , i'm not that much of a hardcore FPS gamer, my only multiplayer titles were Battlefield series and i play them like 10 hours monthly , this game seems to be good in short bursts....so i was thinking to grab it down the line with 15-20bucks or sth ...but matchmaking issues can not be tolerated, no matter what.

@mjorh: The matchmaking would be a whole lot better if they just scrambled teams at the end of each round being mindful of people playing in parties. That would solve that issue.

Most of the design issues with Battlefront are clearly a product of it being rushed. EA has already moved DICE onto Battlefield 5 and to finish Mirror's Edge Catalyst so the main work on Battlefront is over. They aren't really addressing anything with patches.

Most likely this was kind of a contractual obligation they had with Disney to secure the rights to future Star Wars games. Also the game was made with profits in mind more than usual. They probably felt the game would sell itself so their only real goal was to have a working and fun product on day one. Battlefront is both of those but it really doesn't hold up after many hours. The balance issues are just gamebreaking and there are still issues with some of the design.

EA and DICE don't seem to care that much.
