Square Enix Reveals Final Fantasy PC Tech Demo

Final Fantasy XV maker Square Enix has unveiled a new demo that shows off the latest tech it is working on. Revealed at Microsoft's Build conference today, the demo features the same character that appeared in the Agni's Philosophy Final Fantasy tech demo which was shown in 2012.

As detailed by Nvidia, the demo is titled "WITCH - Chapter 0 [cry]" and is powered by DirectX 12. The footage shown is allegedly in-game, with each scene comprised of "over 63 million polygons"; six to twelve times more than the capabilities of DirectX 11. Microsoft corporate vice president Steve Guggenheimer showcased the demo, altering lighting effects and camera angles in real-time. The build was shown on a PC running four GeForce Titan X graphics cards.

Square Enix first revealed its Agni's Philosophy Final Fantasy tech demo at E3 in 2012. The four minute video runs off the company's proprietary Luminous Studio Engine, and took twelve months to create.

Nvidia's DirectX 12 API will be included with the upcoming Windows 10. For a technical breakdown of Direct X12's advancements, be sure to read this post on Microsoft's developer website.

Looks like Square Enix is optimizing their engine for PC DX12 so expect future pc games using it. This is great news.

I can't wait to play this on the PS7!

Yet, I don't expect to see FF15 for years after its release on ps4/xboxone.

And yes I'd still rather play Xwing Special Edition.

Naw, doubt it. They know people will double dip for the PC version so I'd wager they'll announce one a few months after the game actually releases.

I'm so glad they're catering to the Quad Titan X crowd! God knows they're a numerous bunch!

Final Fantasy does not have a large presence with their games on the PC. This isn't like what people think with rockstar games. They would have done that a long time ago with their other games if they believe people would double dip for the PC version .

Maybe their recent sales of pc ports, and their huge survey where I and others blasted them for not supporting pc and it's varied tiers of capabilities actually took hold and jostled some feathers.

Lets take this demo for what it is though. A demo of tech simple as that. Quad titan x's aren't really all that realistic for the average joe.

So judging by the responses I just need to buy 2 more Titan Blacks? Or do I need 4 Titan X's? I know that a year ago the consensus would be that the PS4 would run this at 4K because of the 8GB of GDDR5 but times have changed. It must cost at least $20,000 to achieve these graphics right? Lets see what a testicle runs for on Craigslist.......

SE can't be trusted with porting games to PC. Pressing the Esc key quits FF XIII without any prompt and with the patch a Windows message box appears and graphical options are still very limited. You have to press Enter to access the menu. Playing XIII was like beta testing a game. Awful. If there's a Japanese dev that can be trusted with PC, it's SEGA. Capcom is descent.

They will be at E3 on PC stage but what for? Deus Ex? I expect FF 15 on PC but don't expect official announcement until Console versions are out.

If FFXV gets release on PC. i'M getting it again just to play it in Epic graphics

Seems like this tech demo has you by the balls.

Whenever I see stuff like this I am impressed and ask when will we see this in actual games....and then it never happens.

So we need 4way SLI to play this game at max settings...

I dont think I can wait for the FF15 PC version.... so ill have to buy it again when it does.

Tech demos, thats what we have been seeing from SE in years.

I'd prefer if they'd demo interesting games instead.

That's the best real-time graphics I've seen to date. But then again, it's running on a quad Titan X. That's 24 TFLOPS of power and 48 GB of GDDR5 memory, i.e. the power of a dozen PS4's. We might not see real-time graphics like this in actual games until maybe the start of next gen.

Also, I get the feeling Agni's Philosophy might be some kind of preview for FFXVI next gen... like what Versus XIII was to FFXV.

Those Tech demos is just going to turn into FFXVI.

Those graphics will show up on the PSNEVER.

@GoldenElementXL: It's the 8k part that would require the 4 titans.

So quad Titan X sli only running one character with no enemies, no NPCs, no game logic, no nothing. How could anyone be impressed by that? It's gonna take 8 Titan X sli to run an actual game with that fidelity.
