Interesting read from GS.

seems like the PS4's price will be just right to appeal to everyone according to Sony, Sony also mentioned that they have learned from the past and will not repeat same mistakes again

More read:

Sony has commented on lessons learned from the PlayStation 3, saying that PlayStation 4 pricing will appeal to gamers "in the broadest sense." Worldwide Studios vice president Michael Denny offered the comment to Edge, saying official details on pricing will come at a later date.

"I guess the first thing to say is that we listen and learn and take the judgement from every console launch we ever have and we have to be informed by what the strengths of our PlayStation 3 system have been, but also the challenges of that," Denny said.

"Theres plenty of time, we've got lots of information yet to give out on PlayStation 4. The initial announcement phase that were in now is just to explain the vision to everybody. Part of that vision is we have created a console absolutely focused on gamers--and we want that to be gamers in the broadest sense as well," he added. "I think to some extent I can ask you to draw your own conclusions."

They said the PS3's and PS Vita's prices would appeal to everyone too. This is all PR talk. While I expect the PS4 to be reasonably priced, let's wait for the official announcements.

That would indeed be a good price for such a capable system to launch at.

Thats not going to happen but if it does then bye bye MS/Nintendo :P ( which would also mean reduce the PS3's price to $150/$199 or something )

No, it's a fairly priced system, but it's clearly not a price that appealed to everyone, or it would have sold, wouldn't it?

PErsonally for someone who bought a Vita at launch i thought it was priced perfectly! for a very high tech system $249.99 is a perfect price ( wsnt the PSP priced at over $300 when it launched?? ).

all i did was sold my DS and 2 games to lower the Vita's price to $80.. game deals on launch systems ftw

Similar to the PSP so not bad at all besides the vita is way too advanced of a little system, very worth the price ( besides you can always trade few games towards a new system at launch ), will do the same thing with the PS4 is trade games and get it cheaper

I never said the 3DS had a price that appealed to everyone either. Any time something does not sell at a certain price, it is clear that its price is not appealing, that people do not see the value in the product based on its current price. People need to divorce their opinions of a fair price (which is subjective based on personal preferences) from an appealing price (which is objective based on market reactions). Simple Economics dictates that if something is not selling at a certain price, that price is not appealing. And since the Vita is not selling, its price is not appealing. Since the 3DS was not selling at its original price, it was not appealing at that price either.

Once again, you are confusing personal notions of a fair price with the objective assessment of an appealing price. Please see my previous post to see what I mean.

Maybe with a $60GB HDD i personally wouldnt be surprised if we see a bundle like that with basically nothing other than a 40 or 60GB HDD.

I do undderstand what ur saying, whil $250 is not appealing to everyone its still a good price for a high tech multi media system but just like the 3DS i think $160 or $170 is a nice price that appeals to everyone which i wouldnt be surprised if we'r going to see by end of this year.

Oh, I think the Vita was underpriced based on the sheer tech it had. It's a gorgeous system. Unfortunately, the market doesn't seem to care. As multiple examples have demonstrated over the years, upfront price matters more than overall value. It's why phone contracts are so prevalent, despite the fact that you end up paying 1.5-2x as much money as you would have had you just paid the price up front. If it does get a price cut to $170, it would do it a world of good.

Sure. My point is, every company tries to squeeze out more of the consumer than they ought to on release.

To be fair to Nintendo, they really got themselves together with the price cut, however that's no comfort to those who went out and supported it on release :P I think the Wii-U has a good entry price to be fair.

I can't see Sony making the same mistake with the PS3.

Oh yes. Early adopters are suckers, and they know that they will come no matter what, and any business would be foolish to not exploit the opportunity for extra revenue. Now Wii U, again, is priced fairly; the problem is, it is not an appealing price. I think the PS4 will be priced well, personally. I just think that it is too early to jump the gun, especially based on PR announcements.

If Sony doesn't offer a subscription based model I could see them getting destroyed by MS.  That would not necessarily mean PSN is no longer free, but maybe PSN Plus would be mandatory at a slightly higher price.

If the 720 prices are accurate Sony better match their $300 subscription based model.  People just want that instant satisfaction and will jump all over the sub models without any thought of how much it will add up to in the end.

well, you can sell the vita for 50 dollars, but a 50 dollar paperweight is still an expensive paperweight. it's the same logic for the wii u. they could slash 150 dollars off that price, and it still would be pointless to get one now.

I thought that the Vita had an alright launch price?

BrunoBRS
No, it's a fairly priced system, but it's clearly not a price that appealed to everyone, or it would have sold, wouldn't it?

well, you can sell the vita for 50 dollars, but a 50 dollar paperweight is still an expensive paperweight. it's the same logic for the wii u. they could slash 150 dollars off that price, and it still would be pointless to get one now.

As the price cut in Japan has demonstrated, the price had a lot to do with the system's sales.

I'm calling 399 US Dollars for the basic pack and 450 US Dollars for the deluxe pack.

[QUOTE="Sony"]

"I think to some extent I can ask you to draw your own conclusions."

yet, it doesn't has BC not even with PS1 or PS2 games! How is that for gamers? The innovations on the PS4 are mostly targeted to dude/bro gamers that play COD 24/7 and those other that think that game consoles are a cable box.
