Sony announces PSP Remaster Series for the PS3

Sony will be bringing ****c PlayStation Portable titles to PlayStation 3 as part of a new PSP Remaster lineup. The company announced the series today along with its first major release.

PSP Remaster offers PSP titles remastered for play on the PS3. The games are spruced up with full HD visuals, compatibility with Dual Shock 3, PS3 exclusive content, 3D support, and other features.

The PSP and PS3 versions of the game also share save data. Sony says that this could allow you to play a game on the PSP while on the go, then continue playing when you return home.

The PS3 versions are also compatible with Sony's Ad Hoc Party for PlayStation Portable service for network play. This free PS3 app normally allows local play PSP titles to use the PS3 as a proxy for true online play.

The series will kick off first in Japan through sales of Blu-ray Disc titles, Sony said. The wording of Sony's statement suggests that the series will also be released internationally and will also see some games offered in download form. The press release did not explicitly mention these areas, though.

For the series' first title, Sony has a biggie. As detailed earlier today, Capcom will release a PS3 version of Monster Hunter Portable 3rd under the name Monster Hunter Portable HD. The 4.5 million selling PSP title will feature 3D support, HD visuals and shared save files with the PSP, and will see release this summer.

Oh hey, a PS3 version of the PSP Monster Hunter sounds great - as long as they assign camera control to the right stick. It would actually be a playable game!

edit - my only concern is that the HD versions of PSP games won't look all that great. I'd imagine they would be more likely to highlight the shortcomings of the PSP, as there's no way they're going to redo textures or models or anything. They'll come out in a high resolution but kind of janky looking, just like the God of War or Sly collections.

Actually I just read another article, turns out the online for Monster Hunter is ad-hoc only (which you can already with the PSP version).

And CC and PW have to be confirmed first..... which they should be, eventually.

So I finally get to play Peace walker the way I want to play it. Great idea

*sighs* Would have been nice if they did this before I bought a PSP and the games. Not that I care about MH3, but I can't help but get the feeling superior Hd versions of the God of War and Metal Gear Solid games will come over.

Yeah, chances are the 500k+ sellers will land on the service garanteed but dont expect the more insignificant titles to make it.

Oh hell yeah Metal Gear! God of War better have that treatment also.

What are we referring to? Dont remember Nintendo opening up a port brand or releasing tons of ports t one time.

Anyway since it seems real online isnt going to be added to any games I guess Id like to eventually see FF Type-0 get a port. With an HD make over it could pass for a console JRPG.

It's not like all these HD PS2 games are Sony's doing. They're only involved in GOW, Sly, and Ico/SOTC as far as I know.

Good news, my PSP broke a long time ago, and I have absolutely no interest in buying another one.

For some reason, this reminds me of the Super Game Boy adapter for the SNES.

I like the idea, seeing as I don't own a PSP. My one concern is that the graphics might look very bad when magnified onto an HD television. I hope Sony does something similar with NGP.

Wow this is HUGE news...why even own a PSP if you only play it in the house then? Btw I have a few friends who only play handhelds at home.

its bread & circuses..

bake in the dying days of the roman empire the gov't kept folks complacent and happy with festivals and free bread and various other things.. meanwhile the economy was in the floor and their was alot of turmil in the back rooms, and they were slowly being sent packing back into modern day italy by any barbarian tribe you wish to name..

whats sony doing theyre re-releasing popular other platform titles in the hopes of blinding folks to all the problems thier having with everything else, such as the rampant PSN problems, the develoeprs getting antsy over the PSN updating regiment (in some cases mildly threatening to pull out of the PSN), and the fact that hackers are now stealing money right from sony's bank accounts..

It would be nice if it supports remote play, So I can play the remastered hd psp games on my psp.

The fact game saves are PS3-PSP cross platform friendly makes me want to buy a PS3.

I am not a huge gamer however, playing a random PSP game every other day for short bursts on the PS3 and taking saves on the PSP/NGP is a really awesome concept.

The fact PSP games would also be remastered in 3D would also be nice. Glasses stereoscopic is much less strainingthan the 3DS's parallax barrier so, good news for people that want to play those games in short bursts without needing to worry about straining or other neurologicalsickess that comes from viewing 3D.

So basically my PSP is about as useful as a dust collector now.
