Shadow of the Beast PS4 reboot/remake - exciting footage!

Now, if you aren't a European chances are you haven't even heard of this classic game, made by Reflections (which then became Ubisoft Reflections) published by then-gaming gods Psygnosis. It is Shadow of the Beast, a side-scrolling exploration platformer with very atmospheric graphics and music.

It is now being reimagined for PS4 by a completely different studio and it's shaping up to be a really interesting title to say the least.

I wish it all the luck in the world as it deserves to propel this IP to the level of cult status it should've had outside UK/Europe.

However, I have my reservations as there are slo-mos and unnecessary finishers and I'm afraid it won't live up to the originals.

What are your thoughts?

I'm interested. I know this is a really old ip so hope it turns out good.

I thought this game was vapored. That said they need to make the combat a bit more difficult and I may be interested, I mean the guy is just slashing through the enemies.

I never played the original, but this looks like it could be cool.

Played the original one and shadow of the beast 2 on my pop's Amiga 500 back in the day. The sequel blew my mind. Visually nothing compared or came close except certain neo geo offerings at the time in my eyes. Will keep eye out for this even though i am not too interested in what has been shown in the video so far.

Yeah that does look swell. I remember the original on the Amiga and SNES. One of those cult classics.

Also what do I think of it? Well the original was a pretty mediocre game with shit gameplay and this actually looks fun and has much improved combat which the original clearly lacked in. If they nail the style, music and atmosphere, it will be a better game by a million miles.

Yeah, I was hoping to see something about it this E3, but we got an early viewing. Also, I agree that the combat should be a bit more difficult.

@Salt_The_Fries: The game looks good, but the gameplay isn't anything special. I thought the sound effects were on point though. Love the sound of the flames. I wouldn't pay $60 for this game though.

That gameplay looks pretty boring to be quite honest, nice and gory sure, but with barely any nuance to it. Aztez looks more like my jam.

Wants to see more to make a better call.

I'd rather see a reboot of Shadow of the Comet.

Looks alright, but I'm not a fan of side-scrolling brawlers. Best sections in that video are where there is NO combat. Combat looks like it would get old hella fast.

Yeah, looks like a sidescrolling button masher. This better be done with an arcade budget and come out as a $9.99 or $14.99 arcade game. In that light it looks fine.

Feh. No self-respecting Commodore Amiga user will say he never heard of Shadow of the Beast. Psygnosis was one of the legendary devs for the platform.

Heck, I have three words for Psygnosis:

I actually cleaned out a store's supply of Amiga joysticks because of Psygnosis games, including Shadow of the Beast.

It is going to be a smaller downloadable game, probably 15 or 20 bucks.

And I would argue even in that light it doesn't look that impressive, because these days there are more interesting games being made at that budget.

Looks okay. I remember this game being announced back at e3. I didn't know that it was a remake of an old game.

It looks ok, I liked these games on the Amiga and SOTB2 had the best intro back in the day, most of all I liked the games music. The games where hard as **** but not very long from what I remember.

Funny you should say that, I broke a Cheetah 125+ on a game called Arena which was a Psygnosis game.

Look ok. If the combat system is deeper than what it shows, it could be fun 2D brawler.

The Amiga was amazing. In its day a $5,000 PC couldn't touch a $500 Amiga. I'm glad to see some new info on this title.

I can't see the original style so much yet. The worlds were more dreamlike and colourful in many cases. I hope what we're seeing here isn't the palette for the whole game.

The soundtrack is pivotal. The original had one of the great soundtracks. Weird, beautiful, it really sent you to another world. If we get some generic shite it wont be the same game.

I admit I got carried away when creating this thread. I had just opened a Eurogamer news with the footage inside and even before I clicked on the video, in the eyes of my imagination I had seen something god-like.

And this very spirit carried on to my OP. Now I realize this footage is not all it's cranked up to be.

The game looks great visually. But i can see it getting old if its just a brawler. Add a bit more puzzles and platforming and id give it a whirl.

I played Shadow of the Beast on a Amiga emulator and the graphics and music was very well made. My main problem with it was the very short with a very high difficulty gameplay. I wished the game was longer because the levels were great.

You know that things are dry on PS4 when cows hype even this. The only cool thing about this game I can see is its title.
