SDC Report: German Retailer Confirms PS3 Redesign; 12GB Model Incoming

A German online retailer confirmed via Facebook that in October a new PS3 with 12GB of flash memory will appear. More information on the console has not been provided. It was speculated long ago that Sony would release a new version of the PS3. Sources are indicating that this PS3 will possibly have an even smaller box than the PS Slim, meaning a new ultra-slimline design is on the way. We're also expecting a hike in price, although no figures are available.

Sony's German PR chief Guido Alt commented that he knew nothing of the existence of such a console, when questioned by Gamereactor. But with Tokyo Game Show just around the corner, and with Sony holding a press conference next Wednesday, we'll likely know more in the very near future.Gamereactor

12 GB is not a problem, think I have a larger external HDD lying around somewhere...

It's for "casuals only" if it doen't allow HDD additions. If it allows a standard generic 2.5" laptop drive like all previous PS3's, then this "gimped" model could actually be the best case. It would be nice if Sony made the HDD hot-swappable so you didn't have to void the warranty to install it, but I doubt they are that considerate.

USB 2.0 is too slow to run big programs/games off of, it would be worse loading times than running gamesd directly off of an optical disc. Maybe if the new PS3 has USB 3.0, but I doubt it would. At this point they just want to make it as cheap as possible.

For PS3 this is a little ridiculous considering I checked how much space you needed to digitally download Modnation racers and almost 40GB is required.RR360DD
