http://wiiudaily.com/2013/11/reggie-on-wii-u-drought/

a recent interview with GameTrailers, Reggie Fils-Aime teased an announcement from Nintendo at Spike’s VGX awards on December 7 this year, but that wasn’t all Nintendo of America’s president had to say about the company. Reggie admitted that the Wii U drought in 2013 was a mistake the company made, but he says it’s a mistake they won’t make again with the 2014 schedule.“The way we’re going to be different is, we’re gonna certainly have a steadier pace of games – both for Wii U and for 3DS.”“The marketing activity is going to be constant throughout the entire year. You tease me a little bit that ‘boy the first half [of 2013] was a little quiet,’ and y’know what, you look back and it was. We’re not going to be making that same mistake in 2014.”This is what most Nintendo fans want to hear when it comes to the Wii U, as Nintendo’s marketing for the system has been decidedly weak until now.

As much as I like Reggie, it's put up or shut up when talking about fixing known issues like a lack of games.

I don't trust this man.

He says no Game Drought, but I'm willing to bet he's Bundling 3DS with WiiU releases, and when you put that logic in the hat you could say Nintendo didn't have a Game Drought in 2013 either.

We already know the lineup

January - Wii Fit U
February - Donkey Kong TF
March/April - Mario Kart 8
Summer - Yoshi Yarn, Wii Sports Clubadditions
Fall/Winter - X, Smash Bros. 4, Bayonetta 2

I have no idea how to interpret SMT X FE. Assuming Zelda is revealed, but not released next year. You can't go a year without Mario nowadays amirite? Super Mario Sunshine HD.

The lineup works, but you naturally ask yourself what 2015/16 will be like.

The announcement will be as amazing as Kojima's BIG ANNOUNCEMENT during ps4's midnight launch. Its Nintendo, be excited for a brand new Mario when one came out a week ago.

@mehgat0n: It's a guarantee their WILL be droughts since their third party has shriveled to nothing for the most part. They have been doing fairly decent otherwise on their development front imo, which kind of bums me out that it still won't probably be enough for the WiiU to not get into several drought periods throughout its life. :(

@AznbkdX: Whether Watch Dogs or Destiny is available on Wii U has no practical effect on the console, everybody gets their multiplats elsewhere anyway. As such I treat 3rd party (non-exclusive) games as non-factors.

The real question is, will there be any delays? Otherwise the lineup for 2014 does look good.

Every nintendo console since the SNES has had horrific droughts in games. while having great games when they come out fans have to wait ungodly periods of time to get them. This isn't a new thing just with wii U. It's sad that nintendo is just now addressing the lack of content on their main console platform so it will be a big change for them to actually go though and make good on those promises.

I do look forward to seeing if anything comes out of that declaration.

Zelda would be a nice bonus too.

2014 looks strong for all three consoles imo. I think I'm buying a PS4 buy February, a WiiU whenever Bayonetta 2 comes out, and Xbone when Halo 5 comes out. I may get the Xbone when Titanfall comes out but I have a gut feeling that a $400 Xbone will exist by the time Halo 5 comes out. I am also hoping the WiiU has another price drop by the time Bayonetta 2 releases.

The only system having an exclusive-game drought next year will be the PS4.

Oh, and the PS Vita.

With DKC, Yoshi, Super Smash, Project X and Mario Kart is already looking like a great year...and i'm not even mentioning my most hyped WiiU game at the moment, Bayonetta 2.

THIS EXACTLY. He's spinning, which is obviously his job, but it's important to see through it. WiiU has a handful of great looking games next year but there will undoubtedly be months where nothing is coming out. That's been standard from N64, to Gamecube, to Wii, and now WiiU.

Mario Kart and Smash Bros is all I really need from Nintendo in 2014. Anything else is a bonus. It's quality over quantity folks. And Nintendo brings the quality titles.

Next gen systems will struggle for a couple of months game wise, then slowly but surely will start getting a steady supply of games like Infamous Second Son and Watch Dogs. Everyone else gets to look forward to the start of Walking Dead Season Two near the end of the year and continuing into next year. Same thing with The Wolf Among Us.

Witcher 3 will come out as will Titanfall, and though it's not really my thing, but Destiny is still a Bungie game.

Then you have the possibility of getting Final Fantasy XV, Dying Light, and MGS5 among many others. Either way next year looks solid even without the last 3 games I mentioned.

As long as third parties continue to ignore it or give it crappy ports, the WiiU will always suffer from droughts.

I'd rather have a Luigi's Mansion HD :p

But next year is looking pretty sweet as it is. I'm really looking forward to Donkey Kong, Yarn Yoshi, SSB and Mario Kart. But we've seen so little of Yarn Yoshi, I hope Nintendo shows more of the game soon.

This is Nintendo (and Reggie), He's most likely talking about

  1. Professor Layton and the Azran Legacy (3DS)
  2. Professor Layton X Ace Attorney (3DS)
  3. Bravely Default (3DS)
  4. Mario Golf World Tour (3DS)
  5. Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth (3DS)(if Atlus has proven to us this will be localized in no time.)
  6. Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze (WiiU)
  7. Super Smash Bros. for WiiU and 3DS
  8. Mario Kart 8 (WiiU)
  9. Watch Dogs (WiiU) (One 3rd Party Release! Whoowho....)
  10. Bayonetta 2 (WiiU)
  11. Project X (probably won't release 2014)
  12. Fire Emblem X Shin Megami (haven't heard a peep since Jan. of this year)
  13. Yoshi's New Island (3DS)
  14. Yoshi Yarn (WiiU)

Add some Indie Titles and Virtual Console Releases and you got yourself a Nintendo Year.
