I had a DS for about a year and a half, but then sold it because a) I didn't use it much, and b) it was extra money for my wii. Although the DS doesn't appeal to me, the PSP looks like it has a bright future ahead of it. Especially for RPG fans such as myself. I'll be buying the new slim PSP when it comes out for these games:

- Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII

- Final Fantasy Tactics: War of the Lions

- Star Ocean: The First Departure

- Star Ocean: The Second Evolution

- Tales of the World: Radiant Mythology

Yes 3 of these games are Remakes of previous games (FFT, SO1, SO2), but those 3 games are some of the best games i've ever played, not to mention there will be new content in them.

Aside from the RPGs, there's still the 2 GTA's, GoW, MGS and more. I neglected to buy a PSP earlier because it simply had no games that I really wanted. But then out of the blue a whole line-up gets announced that I can't afford to miss. Not only that, but the new PSP that will be coming out soon will have faster load times and the ability to hook it up to a TV.

Anybody else thinking of buying a PSP lately?

EDIT: Took GoW off the list to end the confusion :?

I could understand how you would consider FFT an rpg, although it's a turn based strategy but how could you possibly consider GoW an rpg?...

As much as I love PSP, God of War is hardly an RPG.

I'm buying a psp in september, but it's not really for the RPGs. Yes there are a few good ones out and coming out (crisis core is a must-have for me) but Tekken, Castlevania, and God of War are my main motivators. (btw, I also have a DS, and love it)

Lol sorry, I know GoW isn't an RPG. I was just listing it because it's one of the games i'm buying the PSP for.

And for the record I don't really enjoy Dragon quest. I've played 3 of the games and while they were good, they simply didn't WOW me.

Although the DS doesn't appeal to me, the PSP looks like it has a bright future ahead of it. Especially for RPG fans such as myself. I'll be buying the new slim PSP when it comes out for these games:

- Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Depends on the fans some fans like FF some think it's casual trash

- Final Fantasy Tactics: War of the Lions Every RPG fan owns and has played this game

- God of War: Chains of Olympus :|

- Star Ocean: The First Departure Intresting

- Star Ocean: The Second Evolution Already played

- Tales of the World: Radiant Mythology Flopped accroding to gamerankings, but as we know reviews account for absolutely nothing for a niche genre so let's wait and see.

Yes 3 of these games are Remakes of previous games (FFT, SO1, SO2), but those 3 games are some of the best games i've ever played, not to mention there will be new content in them.

Night_stalker01

I'm surprised you forgot to list Disgaea and Jenne De Arc which is one very good one. Anyway the DS has a VASTLY superior RPG in my opinion and the majority of RPG fans I've talked to line-up with A.S.H. Bioware, Atlus's strong support *Etrian Odyessy, Contact, etc.*, Dragon Quest IX, the 3 Final Fantasy games, It's a Wonderful World Heroes of Mana, Front Mission, and many others especially counting the imports.

But the PS2 is still the place for JRPG's since there are so many that many fans have missed. After that either the PS3 *which has many core JRPG's lined-up for '08 or the Wii since it's getting much support and a few are already announced Opoona *it's from Koei so it will have a 90% chance of being horrible and a 10% chance of being a gem* and Tales of Symphonia 2 and Fire Emblem.

The DS has a great RPG lineup but the PSP is no slouch in that department. There are some promising titles coming up. I'm hyped for Brave Story, it looks interesting. Tales of the World is actually a lot of fun and I missed Valkyrie Profile on the PS1 so the PSP version is perfect for me.

I like a lot of the RPGs on the DS, but the PSP has the better 3D graphics.

It's not out yet. But for right now, PSP RPGs are catering to a niche audience. I dunno, AA quality stuff coming up. Nothing I'd hype AAA.

Final Fantasy III

Contact

Poke'mon

Children of Mana

Lunar Knights

Castlevania: DoS

Mario and Luigi Partners in Time

Etrian Odyessy

are just a few out now

I own both there is literally no comparison between them with this genre. Yes the PSP excells in puzzles and shooters, but RPGs? No. Especially within the future.

Also the sheer fact that no offense but many games you listed *not counting VP and Gurumin* aren't really that great of games at least by people I've talked too, but that's all opinion.

Also if you include imports the list doubles.

Just making sure, do you realize that all of those RPGs he listed are future RPGs for the DS, not currently released ones?

So far both have 4 AA RPGs, PSP has 5 A but the DS has 8 A RPGs and many more big title RPGs coming. Both have some awesome games coming up, I wish I had the $ to get a PSP, but the DS seems to be getting the bulk of support, mainly because SE is just putting everything theyve got onto the DS. Also Namco seems like theyre going to be pushing the Tales series on the DS as well.

Even though I agree that the DS is hands down no comparison THE handheld for RPG's. One rule to RPG gamign is that you should NEVER EVER EVER use reviews in the debate considering that most of the REAL good ones never score that high since they catter so to the niche, such as Odin Sphere.

Ohh yeah I know, I really love Contact despite GS only giving it a 6.7. Just its the easiest way to pit the two systems up against each other without dispute.

Okay if you want to play that way, let's list some of the DS's already released RPGs...

Final Fantasy III
Mario and Luigi Partners in Time
Pokemon Diamond and Pearl
Etrian Odyssey
Lost Magic

Either way, he wasn't talking about already released RPGs, he was talking about some coming out. And yes, they do look good but any RPG fan isn't going to choose a PSP over a DS.

Children of Mana

I'm sorry, but you listed that as a RPG; it is not, it's a repetitive-hack-&-slash game with RPG element's; and even if it were an RPG, it's quality is not good enough to be used in a counter-list.

aren´t there people who are paying money to buy NES games to play on the WII? or megadrive (genesis) games to play on the their 360? i have EVERY console from the 8 bit era to the 32 bit era (except super grafix and sega saturn) on my PSP and that includes arcade games like Neo-geo and CPS 1 and CPS2, so i dont see whats so weird

actually yes, it is one of the reasons, i still buy games for the PSP just two days ago i bought Killzone, but emulation is Cutting on sales, of course if there were quality games for the PSP from the begining it might now have come to that

aren´t there people who are paying money to buy NES games to play on the WII? or megadrive (genesis) games to play on the their 360? i have EVERY console from the 8 bit era to the 32 bit era (except super grafix and sega saturn) on my PSP and that includes arcade games like Neo-geo and CPS 1 and CPS2, so i dont see whats so weirdstika
using sony psp's to hack and download old roms, isnt really helping sony gaming devision much, its actually hurting them, as well as third parties, who support and develope games for the psp.

Well technically that's illegal so that's why some people find it weird.

actually yes, it is one of the reasons, i still buy games for the PSP just two days ago i bought Killzone, but emulation is Cutting on sales, of course if there were quality games for the PSP from the begining it might now have come to that

stika

like i said, i still buy games, but the lack of quality games on the shelves push more people towards emulation, yes that hurts sales, but like i said the main problem was that there were no few quality games for the PSP when it first apeared, does it make it better? as a player yes, but i still buy PSP games whenever i can

\No it doesn't make it any better!!! Like someone posted above, it hurts Sony as well as third parties!!! Yes you still buy games but you are still hurting those that made those classic titles!!! Besides Authentic games>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Illegal games!!! I rather go to ebay and find those old consoles and play them even if its worth over the price of the ps3 or I'd rather purchase them via download through the Wii VC because most of the classics like Zelda:OoT, Mario 64, and Starfox 64 is worth the 10 dollars for me because Nintendo worked hard to make these games in the previous gens.

The obvious reason is because Gameboy games > PSP games.

Why do you the the GBA outsells the PS3 so often? Backward compatibility.
