PS4 Can't compete against Fire Emblem

Fire Emblem 3 houses is going to utterly destroy the playstation 4. There is no tactic games on ps4 besides disgaea 5 which kinda sucked compared to a fire emblem.

This is a huge deal...PS4 needs a tactical game thats good on your system.

JRPG's and Tactical RPG's used to be big on ps1 and nintendo seems to be listening to those fans.

Sony your not. They got Xenoblade Chronicles 2, Octopath Traveler, AND NOW FIRE EMBLEM!

Do PS4 players even want tactical games on their system? I kinda get an idea Sony isn't even trying to compete on this one.

PS4 players can play Divinity Original Sin 2 which is one of the best tactical games this generation. They can also play XCOM 2. Can also play Valkyria Chronicles 4.

While the OP is correct, I think these types of turn based strategy games remain pretty niche.

I am not loving this newest entry. They turned the series into Persona/Valkyria Chronicles 2 kind of dating sim/management. If I wanted to play a Persona game I go and play a Persona game.

It's true that Fire Emblem Three Houses will be a great game, and there aren't many worthwhile strategy RPGs on the PS4 - but it isn't really worth the hyperbole.

Also, @sakaiixx: Xenoblade 2 had some great moments, an engaging combat system, a well-designed open world, and a really good soundtrack. There were cringe moments too, of course, but overall it was a really solid game. One of the better console RPGs of the generation.

The prequel DLC was better though - it really refined the gameplay, and cut out a lot of the unnecessary fan-service.

Tactical RPGs are wonderful, I rememeber really wanting a PS3 back when the first Valkyria Chronicles game was exclusive on that.

Game looks really good and Switch fans should be proud. These type of games really fit the console.

I wouldn't mind a quality game of this type from Sony

HOWEVER

Don't forget that PS4 has their own AAA JRPG coming early next year in the form of Final Fantasy 7 Remake releasing March, 3 2020.

So it's not like PS4 isn't getting their own quality JRPGs

And this not to diss Fire Emblem 3H, but FF7R is also on a Sony 1st party AAA PS4 exclusive quality scale and won't be on the Switch, so I wouldn't be so quick to suggest that Sony is not putting out the ca$h compared to Nintendo.

I mean dude, chapter 5 is where the story gets anywhere and to reach that you will probably spent at least 40-50 hours of gameplay. This means hours of pointless fetch quest and weak character introductions that have 0 impact. Also characters & plot? Really devolved from first game, now its about anime friendship forever plot and waifus.

But with PS4 likely being 100+ next year I wouldn't be surprised at 10+ million by the end of the year.

The only thing I disagree with in this post is I think you are underestimating how popular the FF7 Remake is going to be. I'm thinking 10 mil minimum, 15 by end of year. If it multiplats to PC and PS5, I'm willing to bet it'll be smash hits on those two as well.

Either way, it's definitely going to be the best-selling FF game of this generation. Probably of the next as well.

@baelnergal: I was being extremely reserved with that FF7R number.

Uncharted 4 has reached 15M on PS4 alone and Spiderman is said to have passed that in less than a year.

I honestly think FF7R cold hit 20M on PS4 alone, but I know it's going to get another bump in sales when PS5 launches.

Wish the switch would get the trails series. They're great underrated gems of JRPGs.

We're looking at game of the year for FF7R just for the PS4 release.

@jasonofa36: Nihon Falcom said recently they focused on Playstation because its where most of fanbase is and they are a small studio. Rather than focus on ports they rather move to next projects.

Not meant they dont want to but I think its more on time, Ys8 on switch was quite poor at launch. Hopefully its patched now.

I was interested in FF7R until they made it episodic, became even less interested when they made it hack/n/slash instead of turn based rpg.

Don't get me wrong though, Playstation was, is, and probably always will be jrpg king. FF7R just isn't for me.

@sakaixx: Most of their games sell well in Japan so no surprise seeing them as PS exclusive, but now they're relying on publishers for the porting and the localization of the games. I just wish the publishers had more budget for all the platforms, or at least PC/PS4/Switch.

Well, PS4 does have tactical RPGs, just not JRPGs that compare against Fire Emblem... but if Japanese is key to an individual, I wouldnt know a good reason why someone who loves Japanese games wouldn't own both a Switch and PS4.

I miss old Fire Emblem. The one for GBA is still the best one. Not sure about this new one..

Reminds me of back in the ps1 days where sony got all of the variety of rpg’s. Now Nintendo seems to get all of the variety while PS4 has been waiting for FF7R all gen.

Trust us, no one wants Fire Emblem on ANY system. It will sell like 50,000 copies in NA and maybe 100,000 in Japan. Such an obscure failure of a franchise.

All the teacher stuff is skippable I think. You don't really need to get involved in it if you just want the fighting. I thought they said something like that in the Tree House gameplay section. Not 100% sure.

In their recent interview they also noted International sales is more than Japan. PS4 users is just diverse hence why the system is popular. They let all porting situations to NIS America and other publishing partners so if you want to port beg need to port beg to their western publishers.

Its skippable but like a soccer manager mode, you will miss out best stat if you don't commit. Fk that.

Fire emblem is a decent franchise but it's not even the best tactical RPG. It's not even close to the Shining Force games. Far from destroying PS4 it is a niche title that will be enjoyed by those who love it and that's it.

I agree on the overall premise though. It's a shame Sony isn't using its JRPG / SRPG Ips. I'd love to get a new Legend of Dragoon or a new Arc the Lad on Ps4. Or maybe even a new IP.

It's a shame they don't make games you have to think anymore. Even Socom died, one of the few TPS where you actually had to think.

Fire Emblem Seisen no keifu is one of my favorite games ever. Seems like after the original director left though the series has been continually dumbing itself down and is now weeb pandering crap.

The Trails games are on PC heck the first 3 Trails games in The Legend Of Heroes series was only on PC at launch and came out 1-2 years later on consoles. Trails In The Sky The 3rd only has a world wide release version on PC. The latest Trails games, Trails of Cold Steel 1 & 2 had world wide releases on PC before the PS4 even got Japanese releases.
