PS3 will cost 660 Euros in Greece

Unfortunately our worst fears came to reality. We had some inside reports for some months, but we always dismissed them as impossible ,but…impossible is nothing in Greece!SONY HELLAS did its miracle one more time. Greek consumers who want to buy a PS3, will have to pay 660 Euros, in contrast with all the other Europeans who will pay the normal price of 600 Euros. This is not the first time something like this happens. The same happened with PSP which was released with a higher price compared to the other European countries.

more here...

Of course, you already know that Europeans will pay a lot more money for the PS3, since 600 Euros = $786

But in Greece, we have to pay even more! The official price from SONY in Greece is 660 Euros which is 60 Euros = $78.6

So, what about the other European countries?

For some critics it's already over-priced, but retailers in Greece have raised the RRP of the PlayStation 3 to EUR 659 (GBP 442 / US $863).

Sony has previously stated that the PS3 will retail in the majority of European countries for EUR 599.

Online stores in Greece, including the official Sony Centre, are listing the 60GB console package at EUR 659.

Sony has already confirmed that the PlayStation 3 will retail at a higher price of EUR 629 in Ireland, due to the region being "traditionally more expensive than other territories."

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe was unavailable for comment at the time of press.

650-700EUR said the telephon guy at the biggest electronic store in Slovenia. He said they certainly wouldn't go below 650EUR from the get go. Well good luck to Sony selling this :P.

There is no such thing as an unified price in Europe. The only two countries which will probably have it at 599EUR are Germany and Austria.

Eur.599 in the Netherlands. And american prices are excluding taxes, ours are including taxes.

Sucks for you though. But i think its the stores which drive up the price, not sony. They did the same with the ps2 launch which cost me more than the ps3 will (hence the frustration of all the fanboys screaming the ps3 is soo expensive while the best selling console ever was more expensive and sold like hot cakes).

Now you see for this much of cash you can already get a very decent PC, even in Europe :) or two xbox 360s.

They're trying to cut their losses, knowing that some rabid fanboys will be willing to pay so much (no offence). Also, maybe they think the exchange rate lets them get away with charging far more than for America.

Europe has 360, thank god, why would anyone buy a PS3 anyway ?

Sony will laugh hard at its europeans customers " the IDIOTS, they got a one year delayed machine, and at double the normal price, they must be real idiots"

I am sure that is what they discuss in their meetings

£425 - PS3
£280 - 360
£180 - Wiimartin_f

Don't forget the Wii comes with a game, and I'm pretty sure the Xbox 360 does as well most of the time (for £280). PS3 is £425 without any games, mine cost £550 to pre-order with 3 games

It's all about P.R. The average American will think "$600 dollars... £600... durrr... that sound fair..." Even if you understand the prices, in the end it's still the size of the numbers that matter. Why do you think that so many things are priced at 1 or 2 cents below a dollar? It's because $4.99 sound like a lot less than $5.00, even though it actually isn't. The same thing works with Sony's exchange rates.

Nope, don't have the Xbox 360. The PC covers 90% of my gaming needs, 'cept there is no Metroid, the horror.

Why would americans care how much it costs on Germany? Its the people in each individual country that care and they know they are getting gypped.

So, from what I'm reading here, most European countries will have an overpriced "premium" PS3......

Exactly - thats why I bought my 360 premium for 260€ and said goodbye to sonys 600€ bluray player. I owned a ps2 before so dont think im a fanboy...
