PS3:
Advantages:

Blu Ray - You might scream thats not needed but from a non biased perspective its a plus (albeit a small one)
Free online - 0 is 0 no matter how good or bad is what you get...
Japanese support - KONAMI, Square Enix, Namco, Capcom...all support PS3 more despite its sluggish start.
Future Proof - The potential is great regardless if it might not survive to live up to it.
Exclusives - Gran Turismo, MGS, WEJL/FE, Tekken,  FFXXIII...
Region Free - NO NEED to get illegal modchips to play exclusive to Japan and USA games importing games etc etc...
Cumbersome to pirate -  Most of pirated copies are sold in hard format as a physical disk...with BR being very new and the blank disks/RWs costing too much it might help to slow the pirates down significantly...

Disadvantages:
Expensive machine - Hell €630 isnt a small thing...Its like a CD6300 + 8800GTS a combo thats twice as powerful as PS3...
Expensive games - €75($94) per game...crazy...
Hazardus investment - Floppage probability quite high...and a risk getting a Dreamcast2...
Wait wait wait - Out in Europe in March/No price drop on the horizon....Sony truly loves Eurogamers...
Losing Exclusives - Imagine getting one to play MGS4 just to find out that its also out on the 360...

Xbox360:
Advantages:

Good Price/Features ratio -  If youre just a casual gamer its a perfect choice...
Easier to develop - Which means better games and faster...
Cheaper games - Started at €70/€75 and have dropped to €55/€60 in just one year...
Headstart/Install base - Stronger 3rd party support...
M$ - Lots of cash to prevent dreamcasting...

Disadvantages:

Ports ports ports - For an owner of a gaming PC that is...
Overly relying on Shooters - FPS = M/K for a PC gamer no matter how one spins it...
M$ ditching it - Xbox1 was ditched quite harshly...so it might happen again...
Small format size - Supporting the above if M$ sees DVD9 as inadequate they might sharply release a Xbox720 in mid 2010....with painful consequences for the 360...
Easy to pirate - DVD9 format is well known to pirates for almost a decade the games are small enough to circulate on teh net...and the blank disks/RWs are VERY cheap...
Weak Japanese support - With Japan being the capital of NON PC gaming this is crucial...

Have a nice day...

I wouldn't call your perspective unbiased. While i'm sure you are being unbiased, the fact that you don't own a 360 and PS3 makes your perspective a lot more ignorant than anything else.

From your limited, ignorant perspective, it's interesting what you see.

Of course the truth is far from from what you think. But you don't know that and probably never will. As they say, "ignorance is bliss".

I think you are right on with most of your points.....

-I do think MS has done a nice job of broadening their gamebase though.  People still say it is overly relying on shooters which is true to an extent but there are quite a few other good games out there now.

-Also on the format size, I read a good article over at ars technica about this and they basically said if games keep going at their current rate that they've always been in terms of size there is no need for anything bigger in the next 5-10 years.

-Plus the 360 has a scaling chip which the ps3 doesnt which causes a lot of ps3 games to downscale on tv's.  The 360 can upscale to 1080p now although its not true 1080p, but it doesnt have a problem with downscaling like the ps3 does.   This is true with a lot of current games running on 1080p televisions that instead of upscaling to 1080p they will drop to 720p.  the 360 will actually upscale to 1080p.  Think about playing COD3 in 720p on your ps3 and 1080p on a 360.  It's a big difference.

one point all xbox 360 has is ports, shooters..and microsoft said last year, next xbox to unviel on 2010. and whats so bad about that? thats a 5 year lifespan, but the actual console might not release in 2011, so 5-6 years. not bad..

Can you comment specifically on my points? Whats ignorant about them?

What you wrote are simply observations from your perspective which consists of PC gaming and reading this forum and maybe others on the 360 and PS3.

The real world experience is very different.

For example, let's say you have a hardcore gamer who games over 40 hours a week, a moderate gamer who games over 20 hours a week and a casual gamer who games less than 15 hours a week.

harcore gamer -

360 is a great system, lots of great games, busy playing, meets all his gaming needs and very promosing future

PS3 worthless to them, promise of future potential means nothing because this guys needs to play 40 hours per week. Can't do that on the PS3 so this system is simlpy worthless. No argument here, this is FACT!

moderate gamer -

360 is a great system, lots of great games, busy playing, meets all his gaming needs and very promosing future

PS3 is again worthless because there is nothing to play on it. Drooling over the future won't cut it for this gamer.

casual gamer -

360 is a great system, too many great games, not enough time to play them all, meets all his gaming needs and very promosing future

PS3 is worthless yet again because there is nothing to play on it. The future doesn't matter to this casual gamer because he is the most willing out of any other gamer to wait for a price drop.

And then comes the internet guys who just read forums and speculate but don't own either console.

360 is this and that and whatever, maybe fanboy comments, maybe as unbiased as possible but still meaningless and worthless.

PS3 has all this potential, just wait and blah blah blah but he doesn't even own one and really doesn't know what he's talking about

THE BOTTOM LINE IS THIS360 is the only option for any gamer choosing between this and the PS3. It just kills the PS3 in every way.

PS3 is worthless for gaming but is a cheap blu-ray player and has value in that regard.

Wow I'd like to know if you have ever even played RFoM or any of the sports games available on PS3. Youre calling True_Gamer biased, which youre right in doing so, but please dont be so hypocritical. Oh and I've played all 3 systems and I have a pretty good PC for gaming as well, therefore i feel my opinions are worth reading.

i dont think the tc's take on this is so much wrong, as its just weighted incorrectly. most of the ps3's listed positives arent even reality, but yet they carry the same weight as xbox's quality to price ratio. thats crazy, suspected support or region free or blu ray or any of these things seem meaningless compared to good games at a good price. i suppose he never came to any conclusions but the lists seem to balance it out more than i think reality reflects.

I cleary state that the Blu Ray is a small advantage...but it still is an advantage.
Region Free is a VERY important thing...imagine getting games from other countries MONTHS earlier and having the BEST version as well...

i, and most other gamers, arent going to bother getting region free games early. i like games and all, but thats not gonna happen for most. and i said that you didnt come to any conclusions, i wasnt really disagreeing with you, only the way the lists seem when written out. more of my own take on the ps3 vs. 360 discussion.

The 360 has more Japanese support every day. DVD-9 is plenty of space for this generation. We know this because there is only one game which required multiple disks (Blue Dragon) and Oblivion fit onto a single DVD. PC games are still released on CDs. Xbox 1 and 360 ports have helped the PC market. I agree that the 360 is a shooter machine. I would like to see more RPGs.

There is 0 point in what format are the PC games released...because they are installed on HDD...
Still the DVD9 has hurt M$ with the piracy front and restricted the developers...I wouldnt be surprised if M$ released a Xbox720 (or whatever name they make up just to surpass the PS4 psychological impact (thats why they named it 360 and not 2 IIRC)) in mid 2010 with an HD DVD drive...
IMO Xbox1 and 360 do more harm than good to the PC market by dumbing down franchises not purposely but due to the casual nature of consoles...otherwise hardcore deep games dont sell on consoles...
Im torn apart between the overpriced PS3 which looks more like a console (because Japanese developers arent that much into the PC) and the Xbox360 which has too many PC games that I can get on my PC... :(

Holy crap the pro xbox propraganda really got to you didn't it.  And you seem to forget that the ps3 has ben out for about 2-3 months now?  How many hit xbox 360 games came out in that time period when you first got yours?  I'll bet it was the same sports, racing, and current gen ports.  With the blueray storage capabilities games will be longer buddy.  The blueray disk holds alot more information than microsofts disks.  And you ignore the fact that xbox had had some pretty serious issues with heat so your hardcore gamer probally blew up his xbox after those 40 hours.

As a console owner you want the most amount of games right? The ps3 has more exclusitivity from the major came companies than the xbox360. In choosing the ps3 you get the exclusives and most of the multi platform games on the 360 anyway. Plus I am almost positive you have a ps2 or a ps1. Sooner or later those games will be on the network and how sweet would it be to browse through all those games. If price is the issue trade your ps2 to make the ps3 400 bucks same as the 360.

THE BOTTOM LINE IS THIS360 is the only option for any gamer choosing between this and the PS3. It just kills the PS3 in every way.

PS3 is worthless for gaming but is a cheap blu-ray player and has value in that regard.

-

Hold on, PS3 not for hardcore gamers? What the hell are you saying, that's it's gonna take them 5 years to get a good game? Future potential does not take that long. You're the biased one my friend. Very biased.

Im still in the sad position between PS3 and Xbox360...one is expensive and has support issues and the other has a strong portbox reputation that it doesnt want to get rid of...

The original Xbox did mostly have fps as their main great genre. However, the same cannot be said about the Xbox 360. They obviously have a much larger range of games and still dominate the fps genre. M$ noticed their lack of variety and has clearly taken steps to correct this and it is already evident within one year of release.

I think it's quite weird you list exclusives as a good thing with the PS3, but don't list any exclusives at all with the X360.

Oh, and that X360 almost only has FPS is bullcrap.

So because the system sellers for it are shooters at the moment it only has shooters?

PS3's best game out is a shooter. Doesn't make much sense.

The only reason you consider them to the THE flagship titles, are because those are the ones that have sold, or will sell the alot.  Altough there have been several NON FPS games that have sold over 1 million copies.

Konami and Square Enix are not the only Japanese developers you know.  Xbox 360 has alot of support coming from Capcom, Mistwalker, Sega, KOEI, Tri-Ace, Tri-Cresendo, and many many other smaller Japanese developers.
Konami and Squeenix also have some unnacounced titles for the system so it's not as if they are ignoring the system.
Japanese support is 100x times stronger for the 360 than the original xbox.

MistyWalker is making games exclusively for the 360. Same goes for Capcom, Team Ninja, the developers of Eternal Sonata (Trusty Bell). I also forget one important Japanese developer that used to make classic games is working on the 360 as well. You are underestimating the its Japanese support. It dominates the JRPG genre this year. How can you give an advantage to the PS3 for having GT and not mention Forza 2 for the 360 when Forza for the Xbox destroyed it ? Forza 2, by the way, coming out this year. Mass Effect by the way, RPG GOTY.

I'm going to go ahead and disagree with most of these. The Xbox 360 game library has a LOT more than ports and shooters... there are some ports and a good deal of shooters, but there are all sorts of games. And there are also 360-exclusive shooters, so whether or not you think they're "better" with a kb/m, I'd rather play them with a controller than not play them at all (CoD3/Gears). Small format size? From a PC gamer's perspective? Lots of games are still being released on multi-CD format for PC. And this size does not make it too easy to pirate... firmware updates deal with all the hacked 360's. If you don't want to connect it to the net that's a whole other story, but I wouldn't even bother owning a 360 if I wasn't going to play online. Also Japan is not the capital of non-PC gaming. They're a small, weird, highly-overrated market. It would be good to win them over, but North America and Europe are huge compared to Japan.

1st  I have to remind you the title of the topic: PS3 vs Xbox360 a PC gamer's take...

2nd If ones has seen the light whats the reason to revert back to darkness? For a PC gamer MK>>>>>Controller for FPS.

3rd Oh youre saying that if M$ sees that the game developers are running out of space they wont sharply release an Xbox3? With an HDDVD drive? Plus the consoles have too small HDDs for the format to be unimportant.

4th Try downloading a 30gb file and then tell me that size doesnt make it easy to pirate.... DVD9s cost smth like 2$ DVDRWs cost $25...Blu Ray blank disks cost $20 and BRRW are smth like $1000...you do the math which is more pirate friendly.

5th Are you serious? Do you have any idea how much bigger is the offline audience compared to the online one? Wasnt it like 20% of the whole Xbox1 population that had XBL?

COD3 on consoles doesn't have "auto-aim":| By the way, I believe your refering to "assist-aim"...Spartan070
His knowledge of the consoles amazes me. Just because Halo 2 (original Xbox game) had assist-aim, all the next-gen console games must have, too !

I used to only play games on my computer, and I shunned the controller for shooters. However, after I actually started playing them more often, I came to find that it worked pretty well. I actually really enjoy it now. Besides, how can you say things like Call of Duty 3 suck? You don't have one of these consoles. I think you're close minded. I don't mean to seem harsh, but I've read every response, and I don't think you really know what you're talking about.

Well he knows the PC as well as anyone in SW but his console knowledge, as Spock would say, is "illogical."

[QUOTE="esk59"][QUOTE="True_Gamer_"]PS3:

Can you comment specifically on my points? Whats ignorant about them?

I think they're quite accurate. There's some still left unsaid, but you don't own the consoles. Very accurate and unbiased review.

Eh, I guess. All I could think as I kept reading posts was "weak sauce".. and I hate that saying! I guess you could say I'm feeling quite... unimpressed.

Now that IS a biased comparison :|

aim assist isn't draggin the recticle...the the bullet actually curving toward the target.  you do not notice it at all.  but it is there. you are thinking of magnetism that halo has.
