Thank god mine hasnt scratched any of my disks yet, and I have it vertically
This topic is locked from further discussion.
Why would anybody put this system vertically, its huge unless on its side.TheSystemLord1
keeps it cool, less chance of overheating. Just make sure nothing hits it when its up or, yes, it will scratch the disks.
The only way one of my CD's got scratched is that i moved the Xbox 360 from Horizontal to Vertical while it was on and the CD spinning and it produced that same scratch that the kid had.
Also what surpised me was that the kid had Gears of War.... he didnt look old enough to be playing it. Lets just say i'm happy it got scratched becuase he shouldnt be playing Gears of War. He isnt old enough yet
My copy of Gears of War got scratched while sitting horizontal.
It is the only game my system has scratched so far.
Keeping my fingers crossed it don't happen again. (but probably will when I put halo 3 in cause thats my luck).
I haven't had any issues like this with my 360, nor red lights of death or anything, but there are a ton of folks out there who have and I am just curious if all of this is going to turn in to a class action lawsuit. I mean, suing Microsoft, you may as well try and defeat a battle tank with a toothpick... but you just never know. Microsoft really has to get their !$#% together. My 360 runs pretty hot sometimes and I do worry pretty regularly about getting the red lights of death.
I like my 360 and the games its brought but if the hardware is really this flimsy its just not acceptable.
If anyone watch the video, do you think that MS caused this intentionally? As they say in the video, the 360s drive doesnt have the little rubber pieces to protect the discs like the exact same drive they ordered.asdasd
I doubt it was intentional but I bet MS knew about it for awhile now. How? It is common sense. If any electronic stratches a disc, it is most likely a physically this. Check the place where the dvd and drive makes contact and see if all the physical parts are there. They had to check the dvd drive after they receive the first one at the repair shop. They must had at least 1 engineer look at it and the engineer say, hey, this thing is missing something. That is one of the reason MS extended the warranty. You really think it was out of kindness? (remember, nothing is for free) MS just hoping to hide it and fix them before anyone find out,
is it my imagination or during their "test" they moved it from horizontal to vertical while it was running?TheBigDrat
Nope , first he put tape on one side of the DVD to create an unbalance , try that on you PC drive or any console and you will get the same results , what does this prove ????
Next he used a black marker on the DVD , put it in the machine and while spinning he moved it from horizontal to vertical , of course it will scratch the disk , RTFM !
What show is this , retard tv ?
First of all, Microsoft doesn't make the DVD drive. The first gen ones are Toshiba. Second, all new 360's have a much better DVD drive made by Ben-q. Blame it on Toshiba, not Microsoft.Nickman71
excuse me?
Microsoft is blameless here? It's their machine, they approved the final specs, they tested the machine and that means they were satisfied with the fail rate they were seeing. Stop trying to pretend this came as a surprise to MS, it didn't. It would have taken a couple dollars to add pads to the drive but they didn't want to do it or didn't approve it.
This is something they have known about since the BEGINNING. Considering I purchased an X360 for my company 7 months after it released back in Nov 05, it should have been fixed because I read about the issue and even read how to install pads yourself for a couple dollars. Problem then became if you open the machine you lose your warranty and we all know you don't want to lose that when people can fry eggs on the machine as well rofl.
Bottom line is Microsoft could have fixed the problem. They didn't want to, period. At a time where they were losing money they didn't want to give the impression to the consumers that they released bad hardware.....not to mention all those dollars it would take to place pads in everyone's machine (not to mention the shipping costs). Microsoft rushed their hardware out without thinking of the consumer, that is obvious. They just wanted to make sure they beat PS3 to the punch....well congrats, they did but it's their customers that pay the price.
oh and FYI, all those people saying it doesn't scratch disks if you don't move it......that is total BS. That's like saying the X360 won't overheat......yeah maybe if we kept in a fridge the entire time lol.
thats the POS hardware M$ gives you for 400$... and the problem still wont be fixed when they bring out the 480$ version to milk the lemmingsl1mIt

PS hardware? Look to the PS2. Only console I have ever had fail....
only if u mess with it while a disc is inside it. before moving it, take the dsc out. common sense shouldn't be that hard.
and i laugh at any cow who comes in here and says something, cuz ps2 ate discs when going vertical, and f'd up in horizontal position too.

And of course Microsoft is to blame. They tested and approved this rubbish hardware.
