President Obama Disses Videogame Consoles (LINK)

he's right and is referring to all those people with no grey matter whatsoever that spends their time playing games for hours and hours every single day, instead of focusing on more important things. no wonder then that you have children that don't know where the Eiffel Tower is.

What do you think the sound and images coming out of your TV are?

He's right, up to a point. There's nothing inherently wrong with gaming (I guess he's a PC gamer :P ), but some people do allow it to suck up their time instead of doing something for the purpose of self-improvement.

Many kids these days (which sounds terribly "wave a stick while screaming 'Back in my day!'") do expect entertainment rather than education. There can be a depressingly low boredom threshold - if it's not now, it's never.

he's right, our society is full of bugs. he mentioned the consoles and ipods because those are popular products, but his reasoning is way wider than "bashing consoles". I totally agree with his statement.

Read this before in OT with someone saying that obama is going to control all communication channels, i really can't see how someone can inturpret such extreme things out of the speach. All he says is that education is important and it's important to not be distracted by entertainment technology.markop2003

The kids that don't care for reading books now, wouldn't care for it if there were no video games either. In the meantime he's forgetting that there are some educational aspects to playing video games as well. For instance, I learned to speak English when I was 5, because I played video games and kept on asking my father what everything in them meant, until I could figure it out myself.

But all in all he does have a point I guess. A lack of alternative sources of entertainment could theoretically stimulate some people, that don't do so now, to pick up a book now and then.

Exactly. People here seem to be reading things into his speech where they don't exist and then blowing what ever miniscule misinterpretation is found out of proportion.

That's not all..Obama also poisoned our water supply, burned our crops, and delivered a plague onto our houses. But the video game diss is definitely a much more serious matter to discuss. = )

This questions his intelligence more than anything. He can't work an ipod? How did he ever become president. My 64 year old grand mother can use her ipod and the internet.

People just have to defend him no matter what he says. If he said "I am going to ban everyone from playing PS3, 360" people here would say "hes doing the right thing" if it was George Bush saying it everyone would be bashing him like crazy.
