A lot of games strive for realism and believability these days, but that can break down if the slightest thing feels off. I think it would be pretty funny if we all talk about the animations that just look weird, awkward, or unnatural.

-Of course the running animations in Mass Effect 3

downloader.php?file=me33.gif

-The duck-footed sprinting in Assassin's Creed II

-The jumping in Uncharted in which Drake spreads his arms and legs wide as soon as he leaves the ground as if he was gliding in a squirrel suit

but that's just me, what about you?

Winding up to hit someone really high into the air.

Arcsys games always look better in motion than looking at the game on a frame by frame basis. The animations get a bit weird but it's all to follow the motion. They don't have the best sprites so they try to make seem as fluid as they can with quick little frames like that.

Really? I don't have any problem with the way Street Fighter 4 is animated... If you have to list a fighting game with terrible animations at least mention Mortal Kombat first.

The Witcher 2 has some serious issues with movement animations. I'm surprised no one had mentioned it before. There isn't a single transition animation. Geralt snaps into a sprint if you just tap W, and there aren't transitions for when you change directions, he just snaps toward one of the 8 basic directions, like a bad PS1 character.

MK games always had a "stiff" look to them. The latest one wasn't all that bad compared to earlier entries.

ME3 was laughable as hell and so are all Bethesda games. Also, in GW2 i really don't like how you see your feet sliding as if you were on ice... reminds me of Halo 2.

nah, the attack animations were nice. combat itself was clunky, and like the sequel there's a serious lack of transition animations, but i wouldn't say "almost everything".

Characters in Xenoblade jump like they're on the moon. Kinda caught me off guard the first time I jumped in that game.

I'm going to stick with "almost everything". there were a couple things that were halfway decent, but everything else ranged from bad to abysmal.

I actually like it. It feels like WASD movement rather than joystick emulation or some crap.

I will never get used to the attack animations from TW1 though.

Running has never looked good in the Mass Effect series.

Also the jumping animation in Oblivion is downright hilarious. I'm probably forgetting a few but yeah.

I'd rather have it look clunky but control well than look well but control like ass (every rockstar game ever).

It'd be nice to have both of course.

i don't think adding an animation between walking forward and walking to the left would hurt. in fact i can't think of a game that doesn't have it. with the exception, of course, of the game in question. and it's not like TW2's controls are tight and smooth to begin with >.>

i remember an old DICE interview where they said that the animations looked horrible in third person, but that their idea was to make them look good in first person, even if in third person it looked like sh!t :P

Snake's ass-crawl in MGS4 (when you're prone and gently nudge the analog forward).
