Popular Box Art Cliches

Within the world of video games, every title needs its own box art. Some topics here are popular because we make fun of terrible box arts that seem built to create internet humor. But there are repeated st yles that serve to tick nerds like me off.

Here's the first:

HD Capcom Games

Every single Capcom fighting game this gen that wasn't an HD remake features two people, each representing a side, clashing while jumping towards their opponent. And for some reason, the latter two both have an identical shimmy of light in the background. That probably is in the eyes of whoever does the box art, blinding them to the point that they are forced to do a similar box art for the next Street Fighter game.

The Lone Ranger

I could honestly pull another 5 images similar to these without trying, but here are the iconic 1000 images of the lone ranger, walking or standing to his objective. He uses his presence or his weapon speak for him, much like Clint Eastwood. But honestly, this reminds me of a ****c cliche found in album box covers:

Close-ups, again and again, of the artist doing the album. I can understand somewhat, but this is literally every single CD I find inside any store still carrying music on discs.

And I hate HTML errors.

I like most box art.

That's why I miss Psygnosis. Their box art looked like freaking metal covers! True works of art in every sense of the word. They just don't make 'em like that anymore. :(

That's actually a pretty good (or sad depending on the way you view things) way to put it.

The Lone Ranger ones can be pretty good.

These are 2 of my favorites. The UNcharted one is too big though...

I like the lone ranger ones, but I hate Capcom's fighting game covers

The only good thing about those Capcom covers is Chun Li.

Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3 are my favorite game covers ever

I agree with freedomfreak. I very much enjoy the collage work in the box-art of the GTA titles. It steps away from most box-art in the medium, and it's extremely simple and effective.

Edit: It looks like someone snuck up on them to snap those pics, and they're like ''...the #$%$ are you?''

Odd Future = Devil Worshippers Come at me. OT= I haven't seen a good box art in ages....the last one I saw that I liked was Deus Ex: Human RevolutionDeniable_Ops

You know the most ironic thing about it? I found out about them through a Christian website, warning never to get near their music. After reading about their lyrics on the same page...it's one thing to shock people like Eminem, where you're doing it for attention, but they're doing it solely for the controveresy. I hope what I heard is true that he'll drop hate rap after his next album.

The recent Elder Scrolls look like...scrolls I think.

I'm sick of all Military FPS box art. Explosion + Soldier with gun. Black Ops' box art tries so hard to be badass but it just looks stupidBPoole96

Atleast it veered away from "soldier calmly walking away from explosions and flying helicopters in background" box arts.

Power Helmets in the Interplay Fallout games. Love the retro Enclave helmet, it looks like an eagle. :P
