B-but I thought this would sell worse than Oculus Rift and HTC Vive?

https://blog.us.playstation.com/2019/03/25/playstation-vr-the-next-wave-of-games-coming-in-spring-and-summer-2019/

It's not the greatest VR obviously. Tracking is not on Vive and Oculus Rift's level, and even many WMR headsets are adding more cameras. So the PSVR's one camera system and motion controls are already outdated. But I think it does a reasonably good job at comfort (halo strap design licensed by Lenovo and is now used in the upcoming Oculus Rift S), VR accessibility and price point. And you can still play Rec Room, play must-haves Beat Saber and Superhot, and watch feature length movies on a big screen, or videos with naked people just like with the other headsets. And Sony did not abandon the PSVR like many said. They even announced No Man's Sky VR, Five Nights At Freddy's VR and Iron Man VR today, and made the award-winning-mind-you Astrobot last year. Hardly call that quick abandonment!

Meanwhile, some Nintendo fans who talked shit, can look up the ass of a cardboard bird soon.

Anyway, yeah, great news! PSVR just keeps killing it! And now we have NMS in VR. Freaking amazing day for PSVR.

What meltdown? Meltdown from what? Who was meltdown? Make some sense.

Also, your pixel-starved gifs reminds me of the original Xbox One

Lol, cardboard bird peep show. No wonder sheep are hyping it.

But I guess slow and stead is the name of the game for psvr. Shame the iron-man game is vr.

Thing about psvr that is so great compared to other VR/HMD is that it has a relatively low barrier of entry. I currently own one and its actually really fun, not recommended for long term usage though, your eyes gets way tired after a few hours.

I ain't gonna lie, that cardboard looks fun on paper but it looks stupid in person but hey, if it sells, it's obviously doing something. Nevertheless, 4.2 million units is a great achievement for PSVR so kudos to Sony and hope VR itself becomes big in the upcoming future of games.

I’m glad people are buying this during its infancy. I have been patiently waiting for the next gen where hopefully VR will not have a bunch of cables and also have much higher resolution. Between Sony and Nintendo pushing this forward I feel pretty secure that some cool VR stuff will be in my life in the next few years.

@Pedro: PSVR meltdown....

Wow. Something sells well in a market where it’s more of a luxury and/or enthusiast item.....and Sony fans are trying to recover.

Man, after all the bullshit I read sometimes this place just keeps on giving.

Resident Evil 7 VR is great, and I hope more than half of of those 4.2 million people have played it. Overall, that's great that VR is doing well - but it still does not make up for the conference being a flop. That Iron Man game looked like a cell phone game from what they decided to show.

B-but Nvidia keynote from CES at the beginning of this year said PC VR headsets had sold 4 million and I think that only included Vive and Rift and not WMR, Primax etc.

@i_p_daily: lol, it sold well. Why would I need damage contr....oh wait this is System Wars.

You guys like to shove in “butt hurt” and other stereotypical bullshit sayings to in hope influence a passer-by or some stupid kid.

Ok. Lemme try: PC is butt hurt that PSVR sold as many so you guy are “u mad” and “roll eyes” at you.

Whoa I’m totally in the cool 12 year old state of mind now. This is weird. All I want to do watch other people play games and argue about them on forums instead of actually playing them.

So strange.

Oh but you did damage control it by referring to it as a "luxury" & "enthusiast" item and thus saying its sales are great, but we both know these sales are slow very slow. Why is that though because as a whole its sold poorly on back of a company that has been red hot all gen.

Gaming is for enthusiasts and there been a shit ton of consoles sold this gen, and a big LOL for calling it a luxury item when its had plenty of sales and permanent price cuts. Like I said classic damage control, and yeah you can act like a 12yr old if you want it just strengthens my argument :)

@i_p_daily: ok little one.

PSVR is definitely for the casuals.

You’re totally right and that whole 2 paragraphs were needed to explain idiocy.

70 million ps4’s out there and 4 million PSVR’s and it’s for everyone.

You’re a real trip.

Hope so. If they can all collectively get to 15+ million soon, we'll start seeing more AAA VR games. Looking forward to seeing what Insomniac does with Stormland for Oculus.

And with 20-30 million total VR headsets sold in about five years (or less), and we start having something of an established ecosystem. It's nothing compared to game console totals, but not bad considering how many hurdles there are to get VR to the mainstream crowd

I don't believe the Kinect is completely dead. Microsoft continues to develop the platform for developers, with the most recent release being the Azure Kinect announced in February 2019.

I find it hard to care about VR at the moment, since there have been no big improvements in 2-3 years.... not even a second generation of headsets.

I'm convinced it may make a PROPER resurgence IF GAME streaming takes off.... and you can run 2 instances (1 per eye)

I've never been as enamored with my psvr as I hoped I'd be. But a few recent announcements have piqued my interest. I'm glad they haven't given up and are still working to make this thing viable.

Best part of this though was the kid looking up the cardboard bird's ass.

Not bad actually. I was really impressed with VR, even though it's early stages still. RE7 in VR was awesome.

I assume prices will fall on VR headsets as the next gen arrives, with even more VR support to follow. Wonder if the PS5 will have the VR hardware built in? That would cut the costs on the headsets and camera alone.

Game streaming with VR is very difficult as latency needs to be under 20ms. It's possible, but a long ways off.

2nd gen headsets are still 2-3 years away, but that's because the tech going into them are much more than what you'd expect out of a normal generational leap. They're trying to solve many of the issues all in one go.

rift 2 will more than likely drop next yr. the tech that Oculus has for the 2 if they released it would cost way too much right now. remember they got the half dome plus the new display tech they been working on and just got patents for. streaming to VR is a long long ways off

I use mine just for Cinema Mode pretty much, so I can game in bed. Have easily got my money's worth, much prefer it to a tv.

I find it hard to care about VR at the moment, since there have been no big improvements in 2-3 years.... not even a second generation of headsets.

I'm convinced it may make a PROPER resurgence IF GAME streaming takes off.... and you can run 2 instances (1 per eye)

Rift 2 is a 2022 thing, so 3 years from now. That's when they think they can get perfect eye-tracking and foveated rendering, and you can't increase specs much at all without that. But once they've solved it, they can bump the specs up hugely.
