I never cared much for graphics, I have play CoD4 in 640x480 resolution on my PC with lowest settings and I have played many games on low settings on my laptop. My choice goes to games, there are many great games from genre that is not on consoles at all or is bad, for example WoW and DotA games.

Though I play both PC and consoles, the reason I play either is due to the games.

To me the games are actually the least important reason, most of my Steam library is games I could get on my 360. But running them at better frame rates, being able to use pretty much any controller I want, having them all installed and accessible at the click of a button, and Steam, freaking, sales, just helps make it better.

Mostly just controls for me, mainly for RTS and FPS. I prefer consoles for most of the other genres. And also mods.

it is between the games, and the services.

I never really cared for graphics, and a control scheme, is not something I find universally better or worse across genres.

That said altho I am a PC mainly gamer, I do play on consoles aswell.

Controls. There are games that I like that can't be played or are a pain in the *** with a gamepad. Strategy games were the first to make me switch on PC.

Mods are a big reason too.

Damn it, you beat me to it.

This. This is what PC gaming is all about. Even Neo said it:

"I know you're out there. I can feel you now. I know that you're afraid... you're afraid of us. You're afraid of change. I don't know the future. I didn't come here to tell you how this is going to end. I came here to tell you how it's going to begin. I'm going to hang up this phone, and then I'm going to show these people what you don't want them to see. I'm going to show them a world without you. A world without rules and controls, without borders or boundaries. A world where anything is possible. Where we go from there is a choice I leave to you."

I didn't liked the idea of buying a lot of systems and keep them around or/and hoping they wouldn't broke or something. I liked the concept of a PC, since it was something that seemed indispensable in everyday life and that could basically do the same thing while just being one system and seemed customizable so it could be twinkled here and there if needed or wanted. So I went that way after my SNES.

All of the above? Mod support, cheaper games, cheaper in general, can customize my PC to whatever I feel like. Makes it much more unique then a stock consoles, whom are the same.

Above all, mod support. You should see some of the mods that came out for CoD 1, 2, and 4. Same for BF2... Anyway, that's the reason, really. Everything else seems to be minor issues. Controls can be countered with using XIM3, or FragFX (Shark). Graphics: textures resolutions gives the games that I do have for both PC and PS3 (or 360) more justice. Anyone who has BFBC2 for both PC and PS3 would know what I'm talking about.

The only disadvantage is the friend factor. Most of my friends have consoles (and for good reason.), so it be the natural thing to play with people that I know over someone who either complains through a keyboard, or screams through a mic. I choose the chill time with friends over the random PC elitist or whining 12 year old like this parody:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yZ044pyuFPg

*Oh, STEAM! If there is a game that is cross-platform on here that is cheaper than buying it used, might as well buy it brand new here, right?

well i play on consoles also but mostly the PC. the main reason for me is that imho it is the best machine to play games on (unless its portable gaming your looking for :P). i know most here play games to relax and they kick back opn the couch and play. personally im not a big fan of that. i dont play games to relax much. i play games to have fun of course but i expect a game to engage me...to keep me thinking and such like. not relaxing. the office setting, so to speak, is ideal for this. i prefer to be sitting at a desk close to a screen when playing games. i have a nice chair for the job though. but i like my controls on the desk and to be sitting at a desk. its more immersive imho. the hardware is also better and its hardware i want, it can use any controller and many things can also be customised. its an incredibly powerful and flexible gaming machine. then there are the games of course. i love many games that are only on the PC but i also get many multiplats for the PC also because of the above.

- Control. Control over hardware, control over input devices, control over screens - Mods. Turning garbage into playable, and good into great. Adding new life to old games, making current games better, full conversion gives you brand new game. - Exclusives and best versions of games. Shogun 2, Witcher 2, etc. - To do with control, but if a part fails in a console, its potentially weeks without playing, and a fairly hearty cost, on PC it could be a 10 minute trip to a store and a 5 minute change (if its something like ram). - Steam. Sales, and other services, the money I've saved on steam has paid for about half my PC and upgrades of last few years. :) Everything is why I enjoy PC gaming, it is a combined experience.

As mentioned, you dictate your own experience on PC. Everything is customizable. Just as an example: I used to play WoW and was bothered by the latency. I did a little reading online and found that by changing your tcpackfrequency in registry, you can substantially decrease your latency. Sure that setting isn't optimal for standard network use, but it's great for certain games. Contrast this with MvC3's horrible online that I can't do a single thing to improve. I'm just stuck with it exactly the way it is.

Games would be one reason, but the main reason is the ease of fixing any problems that might occur.

For example, I had some animation slowdown issues on Witcher 2. All I had to do to solve that was to download and install a beta graphics driver.

More games i enjoy (despite my loving some very decidedly console fare), m+kb support in EVERY game plus a controller option when i so chose to, better graphics in EVERY multiplat. I would say mod support is a plus but for every great mod there are countless crap ones, but those few great ones can make an old game seem like new. Another big reason is the much much larger library and more diverse avenues of digitally acquired games, cheaper game prices (though the trend of $60 multiplats seems to be catching on). There is also better online that is for the most part free (not counting subscription based mmo's), more dedicated communities that can carry a game long after devs have abandoned said game. How can i forget one of the biggest advantages... tons of free quality games from almost every genre, how many free console games are there?

Where is the ALL of them Button... Pc gaming is all about freedom. Even if a developer does not specifically Add X to a game, you can still go add Y... For example, I play Super Meatboy with a SNES arcade fighting stick.. Was this specifically designed for the game? Nope.. Did I make it work perfectly? Yes.. Add in mods, graphics, immersion (triple screen), Biggest list of games on a platform, Outstanding variety of games and you can easily see why All of the Above should be a option.

Why was the features on pc broken up in the poll ??

The only thing console wins is initial start up cost if you don't already have a gaming pc. I also game on console and I get the exclusives that I like for example GOW3. If there is a pc version I get it. I did get it. I actually play my psp more than my console.

I recently bought a PC because of mod support, cheaper retail games, Steam Sales, better multiplatform games, hgiher resolutions, better controls, high frame rates, etc. Even with my limited time on the PC its easy to see how much better it actually is than console gaming

For me I don't have one main reason really. I guess it might be because it's my PC. The system I can sit down to, watch movies online, browse the internet, forums, youtube etc etc, listen to my music (with unparalelled sound quality from consoles), chat to my friends on messengers or Skype or fire up a game straight away and not have to even exit the game to do any of the above.

It's really a consolidation of all of these things. Plus of course the individual games are a major thing too.

True Story. I already made up more than put into for my latest build... only for that money to go into console games and accessories. This past month was LA Noire ($62), Mortal Kombat ($62), controller charger ($19), sony earpiece ($50)... on the PC side, all I spent this month is...well, nothing.

You must have a comfy chair like me :) , the chair is just as important a purchase to me as a power supply or a video card. My work computer's chair and desk setup was scaled back in the comfort department though otherwise i would be less productive (i.e. i would fall asleep during long projects).
