Online gamers, what's the most you would pay to play online?

What is your yearly limit?

Honestly nothing. It's killing me to even pay for WoW, but I continue to due so cause it's one of the best games ever. Nothing else really like it that's free. Now for consoles, nothing. I paid for their system, their games, their accessories. For non-dedicated servers, you shouldn't be charged at all. (MW2's online system is a joke for example. That's not worth paying 8 bucks a month, or 60 a year.)

Nothing I never even payed for Xbox Live. I had a free trial then somebody gave me a one week trial they had a few weeks later somebody on my friends list gave me a code because they were charged for 2 one years subscriptions so he asked people on his friends list and I responded I only had Silver and he gave me a code for 1 year Gold Subscription.

Depends, if it is a MMO like World of warcraft that i want to play i would pay like it cost now. But if it is normal games like CoD, Battlefield etc i would not pay a penny.

TC you really should have a zero option as I'm sure there are many people like myself who refuse to pay for a service that should be free to begin with when you purchase a game.

$15 dollars for open world MMOs...beyond that particular genre I don't feel that a p2p system is needed.

$0.00 USD. I do not think it is fair for a consumer to buy a game and then pay another fee to access the online component. MMORPG's are a small exception depending on how much support it gets, but anything outside of that does not seem right.

I'm loving the responses in this thread. I own all the main systems, but I certainly do not pay for XBL Gold. Zero dollars, zero cents.

I'm not sure if there is a price I would be ok with. I didn't bother renewing my gold membership this year and I just decided I'll play online PS3 only.

Sony is smarter than that :P For extra services besides just online gaming, I'm willing to bet it'll still be free. Everything else? Paid. Does that bother me? Nope. Cause I don't use consoles to do anything besides play games offline and online.

I prefer leaving it optional and pay zero as default.

Also, to those complaining about the poll options, if you wont pay for it, simply say so in your comment because all offline and SP gamers would choose that option. Problem solved.

Sony lost plenty of money with the launch of the PS3, and even had the balls to bring it into the market at 500/600 bucks instead of waiting for it to be "profitable." They continued to lose money until the Slim came along. If they haven't copied their online yet, which has been active for what 8 years now? I can't see them charging for basic online in the future.

bugger all (and i get £140 a week from my part time job :P) its just something i cant justify spending money on when i have other activities to consider.Going out to the pub for me is probably equal or more than a year's live subscription if i decide to start drinking pitchers of Jager and monster in wetherspoons lmao but hey ho im a student drinking tends to be the better choice of activity when the local night club has a student night on xD.

People won't refuse, thats what i find funny. When Sony starts to charge for online, people will pay because other than the PC there will be no free alternative.

The only reason Sony hasn't charged for online this gen is because of their incompetence when it comes to online. Microsoft launched the 360 which was practically built around Xbox Live. It was completely integrated. Sony on the other hand launched with a joke of an online system, which it continued to add to, to try and keep up with XBL. The end result is a mish mash of a system called PSN which Sony wouldn't be able get away with charging for.

Next gen with their new PSN, i guarantee you they will charge for it.

Where is the $0 option? I am already paying for my internet and I have already paid for the game itself... so why (unless it is an MMO that gets continued support) would I pay to play online? I am a PC gamer for the most part and play on dedicated servers so it is free unless I donate (completely optional). The same should be true for consoles, free online.

The same amount I pay now, zip.

Needless to say, I hope, truly hope that they stick to their guns and keep basic online play free. Sony has established a great precedent here, just like they did with having standardized, swappable hard drives (but this is another area they could be making lots of revenue on by using expensive, propreitary hard drives).

joke of an online system? It's free. Its already miles ahead of XBL. It allows you to play online, has voice chat in games, and provides game and system updates. There's nothing more you need.

I'll pay zero basically out of principle not because I can't afford it, I already pay my ISP and Live and PSN make money off DLC which should keep online free

Zero of course. Though if i like a game but it lacks servers then i'll happily rent a server if there's the players to occupy it.

Realistically if it had features I wanted and a overhaul of the online system then 20 would be the sweet spot for me.

I use the internet daily but as far as gaming goes, I can go weeks or more without playing a game online. It's not worth it to me to pay for something I'm not going to use all the time.

O pay my $50 high speed internet fee and that's all I'm willing to pay, period. This XBox Live price hike is hilarious and making my decidion to switch to PS3 last year look brilliant...
