This looks like it could be ok.

Like theres much for it to compete with this year?
Not out this year. Would win regardless.
Which gods?
the scientifically proven ones like allah and the flying spaghetti monster.
Is this supposed to be a sequel to Planescape?
Nope, it's in a brand new setting. http://www.numenera.com/
And yea, it looks amazing. Just backed it for $60.

Oh,sweet.
Tempted to grab the combo with Wasteland 2 for 60$
Do it ! I already backed Wasteland 2 back when they first did the KS.
I might upgrade to the collectors edition of Torment, before all is said and done.
It's been a fantastic year for RPG fans. So far I've played The Banner Saga, Might & Magic X: Legacy, Blackguards, Dark Souls II, Divinity: Original Sin, The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky, Child of Light and there's more coming up until the end of 2014: Wasteland 2, Elminage Gothic, Legend of Grimrock 2, Icewind Dale: Enhanced Edition and Pillars of Eternity.
Now I only need time to complete them all...
OMG that looks amazing . I'm still not so sure about turn based combat in a Torment game though but I loved what I saw so far .
Is this supposed to be a sequel to Planescape?
Not a true sequel . This is new story but it is spiritual successor to Planescape Torment .
Not to be rude nor trying to be a hater...but that didn't look that amazing, don't get me wrong, i'm not saying it won't be a good game, i'm only saying that the video was kind of meh.
Anyway, to all the Planescape fans...what's the big deal about it, again i'm not trying to be a hater, is just that i didn't played it back in the day.
Looks and smells like a GOTY. Really really exciting about this game. I would say it even has a chance against the big multiplats like MGSV.

Its voted as the best PC game on a lot lists. I think that's because the story was so damn good, the gameplay was stellar but the story is what set it apart.
25 "top `10 epic moments of chairs in destiny" front page articles - not a single mention of this life enriching masterpiece. Corruption .
This easily surpassed my expectations. It looks great and has turn based combat, and plenty of dialogue, just what I would want from a torment game.
dis is too omplicated for my tiny neanderthal brain
Neanderthals had much greater brain capacity than homo sapiens. As in, bigger brains.
Havent' even played the original Torment (will get to it eventually) and i'm really anticipating this game.
Watched a video of teh conversation between your party and it's so funny. Morte is awesome. If the characters in TON are this good, oh man.
Just backed this game and also got a copy of Wasteland 2 with it. Both games look amazing and I don't mind chipping in early to support the developers.
I don't get why RPG fans want new games to be EXACTLY like the ones "back in the day".
My friend (whom I love dearly) even using the mentality of "back in the day" arguably no game existed like Planescape Torment. The entire design process was about doing the exact opposite of what people expected and disliked about RPG's.
For example, take a shitty series like Mass Effect: (that is shitty)
This is a Klingon ripoff.
This is a twi'lek ripoff.
The strong but damaged independent woman character, who is secretly damaged and just want to experience.. *sniff* love. Highly, highly original stuff. The avatar of video games. Because that is also, amazing.
Looking at Planescape Torement
A succubus demon who is celibate: Seeking and promoting the idea of stimulation through intellectual and emotional rather than physical interaction.
If this was Bioware you can fairly easily bet (and they actually did do this with Dragon Age) "Oh succubus, that means sexy demon temping you".
Another example would be a companion who is specifically created from your characters past life, through cruel acts, this in itself could make for the entire main plot-line of a game but in the case of Planescape Torement is something the player can miss. At no point does the game pander with a heart of gold or attempt to redeem him.
Other examples (which is now used in Dark souls) such as death as a mechanic were implemented. The player started off in a morgue and simply gets pinged back if killed due to being immortal.
Rather than engage in combat the vast majority of the time the player will be talking. The combat is almost non existent. Games these days (and especially dumbed down shit like Mass Effect) will not do this. In order to remove any thinking what so ever. Needs the pew pew!
The game doesn't even require the player to to fight the final "end boss" of Planescape Torement, you can reason with him if you like.
Mass Effect isn't very good, please take note of this.

I already knew Dragon Age and Mass Effect sucked.
@uninspiredcup: Well your assessment of "good" is absolutely meaningless to anyone but yourself. I am eternally thankful to a higher power for that. I loved Mass Effect for what it was. And I loved Planescape Torment for what it was. Its this little narrow view that if something isn't this or that than its shit. I look to be entertained by games. Sometimes its in the form of Planescape, sometimes Halo, sometimes Pac Man.

But I'm right.

For you. How could you not be?
