Official Alan Wake 2 Release Thread, what score do you predict?

Hmm.. haven’t been following it. Hope it’s good. Developer has a pretty good track record. Ah heck, 9/10 from GS!

Woman of color as a lead? 9/10 on gs fo sho. 86 on meta.

Really enjoyed the first game so am definitely looking forward to this sequel.

Anyway, I was gonna pass on it but looking at more gameplay, I can say I'm now fully on-board and I want to push my RTX 4070 to its limits in 1440p, so yeah, I'm down for this game as I really love Remedy games and their very last game that left me very impressed was Control. Control was one of Remedy's best games (screw the haters, I really enjoy Control on PC) yet, and the fact it ties into Alan Wake's universe, I expect lots of Control's easter eggs in Alan Wake 2 no doubt.

I'm gonna say Alan Wake 2 gets a 9/10.

If it shadow drops as a day one on Game Pass at tomorrow's Microsoft event, 6/10 here, low 70s on MetaCritic.

If not, remove the Xbox association review penalty, 8/10 on GS at least, 90/100 on MC ± 2 points.

The game is only releasing digitally, so I hope it gets a 5/10.

I think it deserves to be considered how Remedy has improved a good deal as developers since then, I thought Control was pretty awesome, plus they tied both the Control and Alan Wake universes together. I hope Alan Wake 2 is also setting us up for what to expect with Control's sequel.

Control was brilliant. I forgot they did that one.

I also liked Quantum Break a lot, despite it not really being popular.

They certainly seem to be experimental, to take risks. I admire that, even if it doesn't always pay off.

@mrbojangles25: I try not to judge Remedy for Quantum Break anyways, mostly because its design tried to juggle a live action series with a game, hindering creative flexibility on game side due to the live action content needing to be prepaired well in advance. I also doubt this was their creative decision. I suspect originally MS thought they could sell a game and sell the live-action TV series separately, in their original XB1 ambitions to deliver cross medium content, and as a way to add extra monetization, but would later realize what a dead end it was and combined both into the game itself.

I actually though it was a good start to something bigger. I liked first Alan Wake but after Alan Wake: American Nightmare, first feels too slow, lots of narrative walking and talking, and the action was never as intense and unrelenting as it was in American Nightmare.

So I think the base Quantum Break game was a good setup, but it's also a narrative slow burn, but the later game action showed so much potential to be bigger. They could have made DLC, or even stand alone expansion like what American Nightmare was to Alan Wake, far more action oriented.

But in end, perhaps in the end it was best for Remedy to abandon it, just for how unwell it was received. I still see people today who still really stick up for it, but regardless if it was unjustly criticized or not, it wouldn't smart to have to contend with that.

Based on control I give them a 9/10 prediction.

As I'm sure it'll be a 8 or a 9/10 game but the performance will seriously hamper the experience.

@davillain: I was surprised to learn a lot of folks didn't like Control. If you ask me, it's Remedy's magnum opus. Like everything they had tried to do, but not quite pulled off in all their previous games, finally came together.

8, maybe. Pretty good, probably pretty boring sometimes, some technical problems.

7. the first was an interesting premise and plot but with puddle deep mechanics and an atmosphere that quickly evaporated as the repetition kicked in and the gameplay failed to evolve. the trailers ive seen for the sequel look more of the same but with less gameplay and fantastic visuals. looks to be venturing deep into movie game territory. we'll see how representative of the final product those trailers are

I'm guessing 8, sounds like it will be shit on consoles. Will definitely wait to play.

I can see it being an 8 or higher. I think this game may be something special and wouldn't be surprised if GS gives it a 10.

That is my thought as well. And with Control being a dumpster fire of a game, Remedy seems to continue to go down hill. Add their CrossfireX campaign, which was horrid, I don't think Remedy know what they are doing anymore.

Yeah man, I too never understood the hate Control gets. It was one of Remedy's best game and it was the only game at the time that got Ray-Tracing done right.

And yet Control sold 3 millions and Remedy stated it was their best sold game yet. Saying it's a dumpster fire is plan silly coming from you and we're getting a sequel. Seriously, what's so bad about Control? What didn't you like about it? Basically you just don't like what Remedy brings to the table.

For me the story never went anywhere, the gibberish was annoying. Like in a Banjo-Kazooie but even more annoying way.

And honestly the game outstayed its welcome. Max Payne, Quantum Break and Alan Wake all end when they are supposed to.

The gunplay is neat, and so are the physics and characters. There is a lot to like about Control but there is a lot I don't like either. Like its repetitive nature and lacklustre story.

9/10 but this might have performance issues?

• Characters were not memorable at all
• The mini map was the ultimate disaster
• The fact that you are in this building the entire time was mind numbingly bad.
• The performance and res were lackluster
• The story wasn't even a story

Remedy did ok with Max Payne 1 and 2, but there is some nostalgia glasses there. Alan Wake 1 was their best game. Quantum Break was good, but not as good as Alan Wake. Control continued their downward trend with their games. The CrossfireX hit the bottom of the barrel.

And now they force this female FBI agent bullshit on us when we want to play as Alan Wake. It's like Master Chief and Locke all over again from Halo 5.

Control can get repetitive (sadly never care if a game is repetitive cause well, its a video game) at times, and I can agree most of the side characters were forgettable but I actually like Ahti (Janitor) who I find very interesting character. Just kinda surprised Control gets more hate here so yeah, I for one really love it, played it 3 times and very looking forward to the sequel.

I predict 10/10 for ghosts sake.

Remedy is better than most developers out there.... Control was waaaay better than anything Naughty Dog has come out with in a long time. They create wonderful gameplay sets and their games feel fresh. I'm going 9/10

It could also be like playing as The Arbiter in Halo 2. Most people liked that guy.
