PC gaming dying!

this might not help tormentos sleep well knowing that even a $1000 card is getting a bigger adoption rate than the previous

http://www.pcgamer.com/2013/05/17/nvidias-surprised-the-titan-outsold-the-year-old-gtx-690-in-just-3-months-were-not/

Nvidias dual-GPU behemoth, the GeForce GTX 690, has been out in the wild for over a year now, but the equally freakishly expensive GTX Titan has outsold it in less than three months. Now either the GTX 690 sold a pifflingly small amount (quite possibly) or the GTX Titan has been better received than even Nvidia thought.

According to Nvidia, its the latter.

I had a chat with Ben Berraondo, the senior PR manager for GeForce, about the GTX Titan earlier this week. Even we were surprised just how popular the Titan was. And still is, he said. Titan sold a lot more than the GTX 690, for example. Its still selling very well.

Realistically though it shouldnt have come as much of a surprise. The GTX 690 was really just a one trick pony, and not a particularly good trick at that. The dual-GPU card was made for one thing, and one thing only: high-end gaming.

And with the reticence of the PC gaming public to go down the somewhat unreliable SLI route, especially for a £900/$1,000 graphics card, even I could have told you they werent going to sell a huge amount.

Nvidia Titan got a shit load of hype for some reason. And AMD are out performing the GTX 690 for cheaper.

I new GPU is outselling an older GPU? Wow amazing? Nobody stated the units sold not to mention the Titan is better for devs then the 690 do the dual GPU support. The 690 hasn o purpose over SLI 670s which are the same yet faster.

I feel bad for anyone who bought a titan especially when their next line that equates to titans performance will be worth only 500 dollars.

This, unless you are buying a Titan for the CUDA support.

GTX 690 was sold out of stock all the way till mid September 2012. It took a month for my order to even ship.

Plus you need 2 Titans to beat 1 GTX 690. And on top of that people who want a cheaper version of Tesla now have that option.

Actually GTX Titan is not that overpriced if you think of its benefits. It´s one single GPU card that peforms almost like a sli-setup. And for being a single GPU, it doesn´t require ax expensive power supply and the refregeration setup, because it consumes power like a regular middle-range video card.

I´d rather overpay a few bucks than have driver and heating problems that all sli setups usually have.

Once it fall a bit in price, I totally buy it.

It's all in the marketing.

The 690 was high-end, but the Titan is simply overkill, and people like that.

It's also called "Titan".

The Titan is a good card, it just awful in the bang for your buck department (Its almost 2x the price of a 4GB GTX 680 FTW).

I'm going to wait for the Maxwell series since the new architecture should yield good results (the midranged GTX 860TI should be inbetween GTX 680/Titan performance and the GTX 870 should almost identical to a Titan). I will probably get a 860Ti for $299 or the 870 if its worth the extra $100 or so

Lol. No need for that. I would totally buy it for 1000$. The thing, because of not being released in my location, I have to recur to resellers that would charge me 1500$. So I have to wait. LOL 1000$ is a deal for me.

It doesn't have to do with the game, its the resolution (alot of people who game with a Titan have a multiple monitor setup which is a performance killer or game at 2560x1600 which is 2x the resolution as 1080p).

What if you're an enthusiast for speed and performance? I don't see why it's a stupid thing to spend money on what you're passionate about. Why would anyone buy a Ferrari? People have hobbies and passions.

[QUOTE="Quad4Life"] You could probably buy a PS4 and Xbox 3 both of which will last 7-8 years and never need upgrading. Doesn't get much better than that.xhawk27

True but if you want the best graphics and multitasking and free games, MMO's etc and have that kind of money then it's not that bad, plus a Titan will last 7-8 years as well, so if you have the money, then why not spending it on something you like?

Hahahaah Titan isn't going to last 7 years.

It probably would.

A PC with Titan runs circles arround Ps4. Besides you can always make a sli setup when the video card will be cheap in price, which easily prolong would its life span to 7 years.

But I am not sure if PS4 will last that long :P

Depends on what you mean by "last 7 years". As long as microsoft doens't pull some DirectX 12 BS then the Titan should last as long as DirectX 11 is supported (6GB VRAM, twice the raw power as the rumored ps4 gpu, both the 720/ps4 are using PC architecture in there dev kits).

I wouldn't call it a stretch to say 5-7 is possible (its all up to microsoft/DirectX on this one). In terms of performance per time period is the equivalent of somehow owning a 8800GTX in 2005 (that card can still play games today).
