I think there is a huge building up of nintendo fans grabbing the console and predicting that from Christmas until 2014 the system will pick up steam. Being the always prepared and ever diligent journalists that we are, we decided to show up to the event a bit early, assuming the crowds wouldnt start filing in until later in the day. We couldnt be more wrong. By the time we arrived, Best Buys video game section was already swarming with fans adorned with foam Luigi hats and Mario Kart flags, just some of the free swag offered to attendees as incentives by Nintendo. According to Jesse, the knowledgeable and brave Nintendo rep who coordinated the event that we attended, an estimated 500 individuals showed up to his store between the two days. Consider that the number is for only one location out of over a hundred across the continent, and you have a pretty sizable group of fans willing to sacrifice their afternoons for a glimpse of what their gaming future might hold. Surprisingly though, not many people were seen stepping out of and leaving the line. It seems as though Nintendo fans would rather wait 2 hours to play 7 minutes of Zelda than turn their heads and slouch back out the door http://www.nintendolife.com/news/2013/06/impressions_the_best_buy_nintendo_experience Discuss

Pretty smart idea from Nintendo with those Best Buy demos. I'd imagine if SSB4 was playable as well many stores would turn into madhouses.

Which idiot company release E3 demos online right after E3?

Whats the difference of letting a few people play them at kiosks in a shopping center... or putting it online so everyone can try it?

These are demos that Nintendo is lettting the public play.... so why not get the message to a wider base of people using this new thing called TEH INTERWEBS?

sony and microsoft fans wait years to play E3 demos, 2 hours is nothing. it's the full E3 experience! it just needs poor lighting and loud cacophony of dozens of booths playing loud music and hundreds of people talking at once.

implement a king of the hill system. watch as best buys have to kick customers out so they can close 3 hours later than normal.

As someone above said, these demos are sometimes not even in their alpha or beta. That's unstable enough to cause troubles in normal machines. Also, releasing them right now online with some of them so far from their release date would be bad for marketing perspective. Demos boost awareness and sales, and if you release them a long time before the release date, then it's not going to be all that effective.

All playing Mario Kart did was piss me off. Knowing the game is almost done, knowing Nintendo is holding it back so it will have a title releasing next spring, and knowing I was playing a demo of a game I would not see a full retail version of for at least 9 months was a god damn joke.

Instead we get the Pathetic 101, An HD Windwaker that did not look much different to anyone at the booth, a 2D DKC (Which is fine but why not hold that back instead since a 2D Luigi was just released?), and finally, that horrible 3D Mario game which was obvious to everyone there (And the Nintendo rep freely admitted) were just assets from thre last 3DS title.

The one game that would of sold the Wii U this Christmas was the one Nintendo held back so it would have something in Q2 so there would not be a game drought. Brilliant Nintendo. Brilliant.

That's how it is at E3, so I'm not too surprised.

because they only had that Nintendo Experience at Major Cities during a Work Week.

Not everyone lives in a Major City or waste gas to go to a Specific Best Buy just to play a game that will come out in a few months.

Shovelware quality exclusives, for an outdated console that only costs $50 less than a ps4.

One would wonder the scenario in which they have a smash demo. :O
