A firmware update may, or may not resolve this issue.
If it's actually a hardware problem, well that isn't good.

So $430 if you want to play Zelda BotW with a working controller. No game is worth that. Sorry Nintendo.
The Joy-Con controllers are shit and I plan to use the Pro controller anyway, but that is pretty bad on Nintendo's part.
What makes this worse is that if gamers are forced to by the Pro, the cost for the system goes up. At the moment its more expensive than PS4 and Xbox with at best 1/3 the performance and less features.
All the more reason to STAY AWAY from buying systems at LAUNCH.
Also, rushed launches? Totally NOT a modern trend like announcing DLC before a game's release...

Hmm, hopefully an easy fix... But doesn't sound good.
Anyone else get the feeling like this thing isn't quite ready to launch yet? I dunno... but between this, and the fact that the online components don't seem anywhere near sorted out (including the new subscription model etc), & it's not exactly a stellar launch lineup with no Virtual console at all at launch either, I just get the feeling like they've sort of rushed it out in a way. Maybe I'm looking too much in to it.
Good to know, I was thinking of buying neon red/blue Joy-Con grip covers since I couldn't get the Switch with the non red/blue Joy-Cons, wonder if that would interfere
Question though, is there a problem when the Joy-Cons are attached to the Switch itself? Or when they're connected to the controller configuration?

Nintendo doesn't have a clue what they're doing. The Wii's success messed them up and now they keep thinking that the right gimmick controller will bring those casuals back. They are still so far behind Sony/MS in 3rd party support, specs, online, features, etc. its pathetic.
This is going to require a revision to the design of the Joycons. WTF Nintendo? Did you all not test your shit?
@lamprey263: The problem is when your body blocks the Joy-Con and your playing at a far distance.
I see, yeah that could be an issue, as well as where you dock your Switch, especially if it's sitting in some kind of media cabinet or shelving setup that walls it in.
@goldenelementxl: People been testing it like crazy at events.
In Nintendo controlled environments. Now we know the truth.

It's not up to people at trade shows to perform QA. Nintendo should of had dozens of employees spending hundreds of hours trying to "break" this thing before it went into production. With proper QA testing, something like this would have EASILY been found. Nearly every publication / "content creator" that got a review console is having this problem. There is no way a proper QA test group wouldn't of experienced this problem.
This makes the Switch seem incredibly rushed.
He's 10 feet away and says blocking the signal with "body part" blocks the signal.
Yeah, no shit. How is this news?
I wouldn't be too concerned about it considering that this has been heavily tested and there have been several press events with no reported issues.
@NathanDrakeSwag: Theyll fix it, until then, move closer to you device.
Or don't have big hands and keep plenty of free space around your left hand. This issue will creep up again when people play with the controller turned sideways even more. Holding the JoyCon too close to your body will cause this issue as well.
There are many ways to play the Switch. We now know one of them is full of problems. Good going Nintendo! And lets not get started on that 2 1/2 hour battery life when playing Zelda...

Not if they move closer. Plus we still dont have day one update that might fix something. Nintendo will fix it, until then, we just make due.

Oh please, like your precious Sony NEVER had problems with launch systems.
Does anyone know what sort of wireless tech it's using to communicate back to the tablet? Couldn't find any info on it.
@iandizion713: I do not have a problem with my Dualshock connecting to my PS4 at a distance, even when blocking the controller's line of sight with the console. Must be a Nintendo thing.
Watched the GameXplain video.
It seems that what could be causing this is obstacles such as hands or fingers or other body parts interfering with the Joycons signals. If this is the issue and the Joy cons work properly otherwise then I'm not too concerned about it myself, just something to keep in mind when playing games (assuming I don't get a pro controller anytime soon after getting a Switch)

PS4 controller had delay issues at launch too. They say its issues with the Bluetooth.
@KBFloYd: Still an issue when you actually have to buy the damned thing because it's not in the box.
That's desapointing, to say the least but still, if nothing is in the way of the signal, there won't be any problem... right? =/

Yea...sounds like Wii U rush launched...actually...remember the big download at launch & the really slow ass UI..hmm...*worried* now. >_< hope its isolated.
Not sounding good at all. I'd be really pissed right now if I preordered one. Hopefully they can sort it out soon with some kind of firmware update or something at launch.
@KBFloYd: And if the pro came in the box it wouldn't matter; however for everyone effected by this it will matter.
The DS4 came in the box. No extra purchase was necessary.

i am not saying its not an issue! it is an issue!
what i am saying is that your comparison is useless in regard to bluetooth working for sony and not for nintendo.
since the bluetooth works in the pro controller then the bluetooth working in the dualshock is the same. you can't compare it to a joycon
the joycons must be a different frequency or lower power?
