Minecraft currently at 97 on Metacritic.

While only 9 reviews are in at this point, Minecraft is currently at a 97 metacritic rating. This makes it the highest scoring game of 2011 so far. Could we be looking at a GOTY upset? Do we even have a Minecraft hype thread?

the graphics sucks so it will never get notice by people in sw. Though I admit I personally don't care about it. played for an hour, not for me

Simplicity will easily do well if the mechanics back it up.

Also only 9 reviews is nothing. Look at SKyrim after all those reviews. Thats more impressive

This is exactly what I was thinking about in the last few weeks especially with that bunch of GOTY threads we had. Minecraft can easily snatch some GOTY awards from anywhere now that it is officially released.

Wow!I never expected the game to get this amount of praise.So if this game scores really well on GS and beats Skyrimit may have a shot at GOTY.

The only thing more idiotic than trying to assign a score to Minecraft is assigning it a score less than 10.

its like being dropped in a world you can shape and mould and ever better with friends along with havin a great price point for the sheer depth and generally how good the game is its completely worth every peenny.

It officially came out a couple days ago. I think it deserves the praise it is getting. It was also on the list of the Time's 50 best inventions.

Minecraft's still the better game and been a massive sucess for Mojang a studio with literally a tenth of the manpower of Infinty ward/Sledgehammer.

Personally I think it is just an old concept. It allows adults to play legos. But in regards to the MW claim, well, it is likely it will beat MW in earnings.

It's a pretty pointless game imo.

Personally I think it is just an old concept. It allows adults to play legos. But in regards to the MW claim, well, it is likely it will beat MW in earnings.

it is and it isnt like lego, theres depth to crafting and various other parts of it.Its probably the first sandbox that does leave you to do what you want when you want without any real hand holding or goals set by the game but those set by you.

Its a remarkable concept when you think bout how deep it is.

97 is a bit high. As a piece of software I think it's neat, but it's an incredibly poor 'game.'DJ_Lae

Which version? Beta or the actual game? The actual game has much more content and concept to actually make it a game such as RPG like adventuring mechanics, dungeons, bosses, treasures, and all kinds of other things.

Fighting zombies, finding treasures in dungeons, boss fights, the Nether, towns, it's a common misconception really but there is more to Minecraft than just building. :oops:

It's fun. Definitely my favorite PC games. Going to try my hand at modding it once all the tools are updated to 1.0.0.

Like Bethesda games, modding really adds an entirely new experience to the game. Bukkit servers FTW

Honestly I don't hate CoD. But the only campaigns I say I truly enjoyed were the first MW and Blops, and the MP is either really fun or incredibly annoying. So MW3 isn't "bad" but it's not great either.

Well I wasn't the one who first compared Minecraft's sales to MW3, and Sims and Minecraft are extremley different. The only similarity is that you can customize stuff and that's about it.
