... in contrast of what they did for PC gaming.

So here we have Microsoft yapping about this again:

Speaking at GDC, Spencer praised Valve's unwavering PC support, before saying Microsoft intends give the platform more attention too, Edge reports.

But this part is particularly interesting:

"[Valve has] been the backbone for PC gaming for the last decade when you think about the work that they've done," said Spencer. "As the Windows company I appreciate what they've done.

"In a lot of ways they've focused more on PC gaming than we have, and for me that's something inside the company that we'll have a renewed focus on - Windows and PC gaming inside of Microsoft is definitely happening - you saw the DX12 demos here and you will see more from us over the summer."

And yet they demonstrated Forza 5 on PC, but confirmed none of the Xbox One games are coming to PC. Way to go MS.

More here.

What do you think?

I'm curious as to what he means by "Microsoft plans to give the platform (PC) more attention"

They're probably hoping they can nab some more PC games with DX12 for Xbox One so they won't have to put in effort for their exclusive lineup

you know MS how to make contribution to pc gaming? Bring back flight simulator and Age of empires ( and none of that crap browser/f2p iterations ). Also lower your windows prices ( 100euros for a new OS at the time when even apple offers theirs for free is absurd )

@IgGy621985: I think you'd bash MS either way.

If they DONT put games on PC, then they dont care about PC gaming.

If they DO put games on PC, then Xbox is bashed for not having exclusives.

I think it goes without saying that Valve has done more for PC GAMING than any other company, but Microsoft has done more for PCs (software) in general.

Again, if they had said that they have done more, they would be bashed.........yet when they tell the truth...........they are bashed? How does that work?

Beyond MS' inclusion of DX throughout Windows, i'm inclined to agree. Valve have done a lot in recent years for PC gaming.

It says they plan to give the PC more attention, but that doesn't mean it'll be positive attention.

Steam saved PC gaming in my opinion. Its better DRM, but good sales and centralization. It just made PC gaming simpler.

there is no reasoning with that sheen @WilliamRLBaker

his bald headed sheen deflects all logic.

but to stay on point,

the pc was the original xbox,

and Microsoft abandoned it and chased the hardware dream, what idiots,

now they and their fans are the laughing stock of the gaming community,

and their os is garbage and is sought to be replaced by Linux alternatives/mac market share/steam os.

I was going to say something about their phones, but you know,

black and green is not xbox, that is gangrene, shit is going to die from infection,

kill ms with fire

Everything you said needs to be put in the right perspective. The facts are simple:

  • Microsoft did NOTHING for PC gaming in the past 10 years.
  • Xbox at least got some good exclusives, while PC titles Microsoft made or published (e.g. Age of Empires, Flight Simulator) were either shut down in order to shift the studio to Xbox, or the franchise was completely scrapped.
  • They SAID they'll "be back" with PC gaming multiple times, but they did NOTHING nevertheless.
  • Microsoft did more for PCs because they'd lose a majority of their profits if they didn't.

How does that sound?

Okay MS. I want:

1. Windows 9 to be good. None of that metro crap.

2. Don't try to make another rendition of GFWL bs, just embrace Steam.

3. Age of Empires 4. Make it happen.

That's what I always think when I hear them announcing they are going to announce something for PC. But they never actually announce something concrete.

"you will see more from us over the summer."

What will we see, actual new games for PC ? Xbox ports ? Or more windows phone ports ? If it's the latter don't even bother, and don't hype it up.

Also from the gamespot article:

"Xbox executive Phil Spencer also says you'll see Microsoft do more in the PC gaming space in the future."

That sounds believable. If it weren't for the fact that they say this exact same thing every year. And they never do anything.

As a big fan of FSX, I think MS got flight sims right. Since the day MS let the Aces studio go, the torch for anything FSX has passed on to Lockheed-Martin which have it's own version: Prepar 3D. But, even that will eventually get old.

Hopefully MS will come to its senses and reestablish the FS franchise. Many aviation enthusiasts refused to give up FSX for something newer. Even the pilot of that missing Malaysian airline held on to both FS9 (2004) and FSX (2006).

I'm certainly not giving up FSX until something newer or better comes along. Heck. I'm keeping FSX (both licenses) even if it doesn't run anymore.

As for Valve...... I like Steam. But, that's it. The Half Life and Portal games aren't my cup of tea for some reason. After all these years, I still have Half Life 2 and the first Portal to finish.

Believe me, I really want those things to happen too. Especially another Age of Empires.

But with the way MS has been towards PC gaming in recent years, I don't see none of it happening.
