Poll Metal Gear Solid, Splinter Cell, or Syphon Filter - which series do you like most? (71 votes)

Metal Gear Solid 65%
Splinter Cell 31%
Syphon Filter 4%

Sadly, there hasn't been a new entry in any of these franchises for years now. As the few of you who actually read my posts know, I'm a huge Metal Gear Solid fan. V was kind of a let down for me. I've also enjoyed Splinter Cell. It's been almost 7 years since Blacklist came out! And then there's Syphon Filter. Syphon Filter hasn't been out the longest. But it had a popular run back in the day. Sony Bend should've focused on rebooting the series instead of creating Days Gone. Am I rite, SW? Well anyway.. which series do you like the most out of these three?

Metal Gear Solid by a country mile. Tried to get into Splinter Cell and Syphon Filter but they just never hooked me.

Splinter cell By far until it was dumbed downed and become action games later.

Original and Chaos Theory were masterpeice, infact Chaos theory is easily the best stealth game ever made. after that series become action game on wards to the point blacklist become worst in series.

MGS1 was cool, didnot liked rest of games in series, MGS5 was one of the most boring and bland open world game this gen.

I like Splinter Cell more, but Metal Gear Solid has been more consistent quality wise.

Blacklist was a return to form, but far from perfect. Ubisoft gotta Ubisoft.

The highs of Splinter Cell were better IMO (although MGS3 is way up there,) than the others, but I prefer MGS overall.

MGS, although I am quite fond of pre-Conviction Splinter Cell games. Never played Syphon Filter.

MGS. Countless replays of MGS2 and MGS3, loved those games. And when MGSV isn't wasting your time with dumb shit, it's the best stealth gameplay I've ever experienced. Would take this series just for those.

Also liked MGS1 and PW enough, and before MGS4 took a colossal nosedive it had some good spots too.

Of course Chaos Theory is definitely an all timer, even if only talking single player, but the multiplayer was also sick af. Blacklist is solid too if you crank the difficulty all the way up. Can't see myself revisiting any of the other SC games again tho.

But I didn't mind Syphon Filter back in the day too.

All i remeber from Syphon Filter is spamming the taser on everything that moves.

Gameplay was better (for its time that is) in Splintercell 1, 2 and Chaos Theory than any MGS, but mgs as a whole is a more interesting game.

My experience with Metal Gear and Syphon Filter doesn't go further than PSP and Vita games.

I guess Splinter Cell is the best one out of the bunch for me.

But my all time favourite stealth game is Dishonored.

Voted MGS due MGS is the best story in a game I have ever experienced and I have played many epic world destroying JRPG cliche or chosen one western RPG story.

Syphon Filter I only vaguely remembers the PS1 game.

While MGS doesn't have the best stealth gameplay, this series (the original 3D trilogy at least) has always been more memorable and enjoyable for me, so my vote goes to it.

Syphon filter dark mirror and Logan’s shadow (more dark mirror) because it let you pick stealth or action and was very fun.

Mgs and then splinter cell

Early Splinter Cell games by a landslide. Never cared for Metal Gear and Syphon Filters has been meh (Omega Strain), to bad (everything else).

Ubisoft has lost its way with SP though. Too much action in a stealth/spy game.

lol worse than Conviction. XD

Anyways, I know we've told you this more than a few times, and I get that you like playing games on toddler mode, but...

Perfectionist mode was initially introduced for fans of the previous games of the series before Splinter Cell: Conviction, as it removes added in features, such as the main mechanics of Mark and Execute. The difficulty mode also removes other 'newer' features to the Splinter Cell series such as the ability for Sonar Goggles to see through walls (acting more like basic thermal vision from the previous games) and increasing the amount of time that enemies detect the player. The damage output from enemies is greatly increased as well, with enemies only needing a few shots to kill the player (even when wearing heavier armor). The difficulty setting is available in both the campaign mode and cooperative mode of Splinter Cell: Blacklist.

And sure, the level design isn't going toe to toe with Chaos Theories better offerings, but still pretty good.

We'd be extremely fortunate for the next SC to be as good as Blacklist. Not even holding out hope for something CT level anymore.

lol did perfectionist mode remade it into chaos theory style? did it bring light and sound meter? did it bring deep and complex level design? did it remove badly done FPS segment?

of course not. lazy way to make game "challenging".

on other hand Chaos theory was pure stealth simulator. i beat so many times on hardest difficulty. some of missions like bank, displace are some of most creative design level in gaming.

cant believe ubisoft fall from that and now they only make open world RPG crap.

It gud, just not teh perfect.

  • No tactfully picking gear from the start that makes logical sense, gotta grind that shit like an RPG, because Ubisoft
  • Dumbass preorder crap cutting weapons and levels, because Ubisoft
  • Problem since Double Agent of removing incremental light/sound management for a straight up "on/off" dumbing down with no use of hard-light for solid shadows that helped make the series so recognizable.
  • No hacking, just a "press E" icon
  • It doesn't really matter what part of the world you are in, the enemies are largely the same wither you're at a gas station in Eastern Europe or Afghanistan, makes no sense
  • New Sam is Mass Effect man. Bland as **** generic toast with no butter. But Ubisoft already ruined the character prior, so...
  • Main mission is too linear compared to side missions, explozonz
  • The lens flair is fucking stupid, Ubisoft knew it was fucking stupid and didn't provide an option to turn off "fucking stupid"
  • Stuff

PRO

  • Some of the map design is really, really good in the side missions. Little sandbox's that are perfectly paced as to be challenging but not a slog if you **** up
  • Enemies and objectives change placement each run-through. Not massive, 2-3 times, but it helps keep it interesting
  • It isn't Splinter Cell: Conviction
  • Some of the gadgets are super fun to use are arguably better than any other entry minus the hacking mic
  • The story isn't dumb 24 shit anymore
  • Good COOP, managed to mix SP/MPin single levels really well, although the message "this is for coop" is "this is a game stop being immersed"
  • You can play this game (specifically the side-missions passive in most cases , without killing anyone, it's a perfectly viable, harder and more interesting options.
  • It isn't open-world shit, which at this point is amazing, given it's Ubisoft
  • Other things

Probably other stuff, but that's 100% legit gaming expert run-down.

Splinter Cell for me and while I understand Conviction gets mixed views, I for one really like that Splinter Cell mainly it was like playing John Wick style but it leans more towards Jason Bourne films which is good and I love the Bourne series anyway.

Splinter Cell gets my vote and Metal Gear Solid comes second place and as for Syphon Filter, I only played the first game but I rented that game from Blockbusters and hardly could remember the plot.

Although Emile Dufraisne is a terrible, derivative villain, the story-telling in the Ubisoft Montreal version is significantly better and has one of my fav moments in a game when Sam kills Jamie.

If we're going purely based on stealth - then would probably have to give the edge to Splinter Cell.

However MGS has other stuff mainly boss fights, some of which are my personal favorites. Mostly the ones in 3.

I'm more of a Metal Gear fan, especially the presentations of MGS1 & MGS3, but I think the early Splinter Cell games had better gameplay.

I wish I would've played the Splinter Cell games more back then. I missed out on Chaos Theory & Pandora Tomorrow :(

Nothing touches MGS in that list. Not even close. Not to say the other choices aren't cool in their own right, though.

Splinter Cell.

Would be MGS if Kojima didn’t insist on ruining his games with 2nd grade writing.

@MirkoS77: Hyperbole much?!

Kojimas writing is better than most Hollywood movies....

I get that he is no Shakespeare

Thematically his games are diverse, bold, and thrilling.

I mean sure the overarching plot might be a tad messy but each of his games I played is solid experience on its own. I did not play 4 or 5 even though I own both
