The numbers are in.

While predictably enough, the 3DS has a complete irongrip on both the hardware and software charts (leading both by a mile), the PS Vita, after last week's disappointing performance, continues with its disappointing sub 10k run, widening the gap between 3DS and PSV even further.

With next month's Soul Sacrifice annuncement, however, things may be looking up for the handheld again.

As for the 3DS? Dominating. Like a boss.

Oh, and also PS3 beats Wii60 yet again.

I really hope it starts picking up steam. Sony needs it and Vita is far more appealing to me than 3DS is.

Yes, I'm sure everyone is supremely jealous of the Vita's continually impressive sub 10k performance on the Japanese charts.

i still believe

Chris_Williams
So do I. Like I said, Soul Sacrifice should turn things around for the system, if it is what I think it is.

I wonder if Mario Party 9 will be enough to make the Wii pass the Vita next week.

Also Fire Emblem is going to be huge.

As for the former: lol no. The Vita is also getting a lot of releases next week. While no single game is 'big,' collectively, they should be enough to push the system over 10k for at least a week again. As for the latter: hell yes. I predict it's going to be the largest selling FE game till date.

The only game releasing for Vita next week is Lumines. That's a drop in the bucket compared to Mario Party 9. Mario Party 8 sold 1.5 million.

Yes, I just saw the Vita lineup until end June. It's f*cked. It's like, worse than the Wii's lineup last year. Sub 5k week coming soon.

What can they do? Cut price ... burn more money? Its not like you can produce games out of thin air to save things. I guess they are just hoping they can ride the storm until some games arrive that catch the imagination of the public before the vita dies a death.

They've announced what looks to be their effort at a mega system selling franchise based off of Pokemon and Monster Hunter called Soul Sacrifice. Full details will be revealed in May. We'll see.

Cutting the price somewhat and taking a bit of a hit now, would be better than seeing it sink into irrelevancy after a few months.

Eh, I don't think that'll be enough. The Vita really needs a piece of software that's going to sell units. Sony's problem with the PS3 has started on the Vita. They have good games but none of them move units or sell as well as they should.

Which is why I named Soul Sacrifice. If handled correctly, Sony could have their first system selling franchise on their hands.

Sony doesn't know how to make system sellers, especially not SCEJ. I don't think it will do well.

Over the last seven years, but last year most of all, here's what Sony has realized: The Playstation empire was built off the back of third party successes. People give Microsoft a lot of sh*t for not investing in a first party, but what notable first party games did the PS and PS2 have? Every game that the systems were identified with- Final Fantasy, Tekken, Metal Gear Solid, Silent Hill, Resident Evil, Burnout, Grand Theft Auto- they were all third party games. Sony possibly never foresaw a situation where they would would lose this third party support (exclusivity in the case of home consoles, entirely in the case of handhelds) and they never bothered with a first party. [QUOTE="charizard1605"]Which is why I named Soul Sacrifice. If handled correctly, Sony could have their first system selling franchise on their hands.Eponique

Sony doesn't know how to make system sellers, especially not SCEJ. I don't think it will do well.

This. Sony's in a real tough position against Nintendo at the moment. Nintendo's got Mario, Mario Kart and Pokemon -- Those are all first party titles that sell hardware. On top of that Nintendo has snagged Monster Hunter which is further going to move units.

Sony doesn't have any first party software that's going to sell a ton of hardware. I'm not looking at Sony making Nintendo numbers, but I mean a significant boost (world wide). Sony also lost Monster Hunter to the 3DS and as far as I know, there is no Vita Monster Hunter game that's been confirmed (only rumoured).

Sony needs to show us why the Vita matters at E3. The only titles I'm looking forward to on the device at titles that aren't going to move a lot of units -- BioShock Vita, Persona 4: The Golden and Gravity Daze.

its difficult to say either way, honestly. You can't hype (or hate on) a game that has no info out on it yet. It's premature to say that it'll save the system, but it's also not right to say that it won't be any good cuz its Sony.

Dude, what? All three of those are going to sell by the buttload (in the west, at least). Let's hope the install base is large enough to do those numbers justice. Oh, and handhelds > home consoles (excluding PC).

I wish there was a home console only version of Media Create Japan. That way sheeps and lemmings would have nothing to hide behind.

It would be the most depressing sales chart ever. Home consoles do not sell in Japan. Also, Wii still wins, so it would degenerate into an argument of whether current sales matter more vs LTD or not every single week.

....no? I clearly see the PS3 selling twice the Wii and 360 combined. PS3 domination much?

The last seven years, starting with the PS3, have been a wake up call for them. They've begun building up their first party portfolio, and they've done a good job. But they lack that critical system selling franchise, and they recognize it. Which is why I fully believe that they will try and build one now, on the Vita, they will do everything within their power to do it. If Nintendo could make something as unmarketable as Kid Icarus a success, there is no reason Sony shouldn't be able to do the same.charizard1605

Sony's attempt at making system sellers has been laughable. Uncharted hasn't gotten them very far, LBP got them nowhere, God of War failed to hold its ground, and they killed off their only two system sellers this gen (Gran Turismo and Singstar).

Nintendo's strategy for system seller is to think of a new idea, make a high quality game and market it really well. Sony's strategy is to throw a million and one games until one sticks to the wall, and milk said franchise until it dies. They're also very uncreative. If Soul Sacrifice really is a MH clone then that's pretty sad. It's not like Title Fight and LBP Karting weren't enough. These games will be nowhere near as popular as the game they rip off of.

Of course not- but the cumulative effect should be the same as one or two big system sellers.

I don't understand why Sony don't just make Demons Souls Portable (not a remake of the console game, but a new set of games under the portable title), they own the IP and i'm pretty sure it'll be a system seller in Japan. Just add a more portable friendly multiplayer and everyone will be happy.
