I've had a PS2 for over 5 years with no problems. I've had a 360 for nearly 2 years with 3 RROD's. So the 360 is worse in my personal experience.
RROD is probably worse overall, it seemed to get much more attention than DRE and is far more well known.
DRE owned me last gen with the PS2, and it has also owned me this gen with the PS3...
RROD owned me 0 times.
Both were problems, although DRE was a much easier fix.
As far as widespread problems, RROD is worse. It was the first time actual major retailers (Best Buy stopped for a time, as did Gamestop for a time) stopped selling warranties for consolse, and then their was the M$ 360 Austrailian Scandal, where many weren't covered (different laws.)
Overall, these things aren't great, but RROD was far worse. I had DRE once, and RROD 3 times. I am also extremely clean, so I'd be one of those poeple you would expect immune from this crap.
the only thing that the PS2 has is DRE, and its not even that widespread as what the 360 has
the 360 has-
RROD(serveral errors, mostly overheating)
DRE
disc scratch
hard drive error
might not look like alot, but it is... i know alot of people that owned a 360 for at least a year, none of them have had it work perfectly
I have 2 360s neither have failed and one is a launch unit.
Till this date i've had over 5 ps2's fats and slims that failed me.
As well RROD is far more overblown then PS2 dre many more fake reports, and fanboys make fake sites, posts on forums...ect bout RROD then ever the same was done for ps2 dre.

TheOwnerOner
YA right
Alright I lied
DRE - 4
RROD - 0
i still find 4 a big number for DRE
DRE occurs when the laser becomes week and unable to read discs anymore for this to happen it takes at least 1 year + of constant use which is why its rare to hear of people who had a ps2 under a year getting DRE

Like i said its rare but it is possible i just find it hard to beleive that TheOwnerOner got 4 for them giving the ps2s lifespan to date and the fact that it does not affect every ps2
The thing is DRE can affect everthing that uses a laser from CD players,DVD players to other home consoles ect.

So 4 DRE's on the PS2 can't be believed but 4 RRODs is far from being far-fetched?

Quote me were i even mention the 360 in this thread yet alone the RROD
Quote me in this thread where I said you have.
I'm referring to the majority who can believe 4 RRODs, but would cast away any news about anyone's PS2, or PS3 for that matter, DREing on them 4 or more times.
Lucky for me I've been gaming since the Atari 2600 and have never experienced a malfunction with any console. I still have a launch 360 and besides the occasional freeze ups I had with Oblivion, it works just fine.
Still though I would have to say RROD is not only the biggest disaster in console history, but in the history of consumer electronics as a whole.
As for the guy who said he had 4 DREs, sure anything is possible, but I find that very unlikely.

Well i personally would think 4 RRODs is a bit far fetched if i heard some one bring it up on system wars
still the RROD is far more wide spread then DRE
i don't care what anyone else says because this is my personal experience with the ps2 and 360.
ps2- 4 DRE
360-1 RROD
so far 360 is winning cause i didnt have to pay o get it fixed either
Well my friend had GTA IV for a week. His Xbox 360 then scratched it so badly it didn't work.
He took it back got another copy for free from EB and then his xbox 360 scratched that one too.
No GTA IV for xbox =(. Wasn't that great a game anyway.
My 360 rrod about a year and half after i got it, i sent it in and got it fixed for free, i also got my ps2 at launch about 2 years in it started having disk read errors, i looked the problem up on the internet and found out how to fix it, "apparantly wiping dust off the lens with alchohol and swab fixes it", so i f wiped it and it worked, however every 6-8 months it would start doing it and id have to wipe it again. neither were that bad for me. : /
so ya thats my experiance
The PS2 was unreliable? I've still got my original PS2, still running fine after 7 years of gaming. Silent-Hal
It was for me.
I got one of the old fat ones and it got a DRE
and then I got a slim which just died for some reason.
