So we all know about the RROD, and a good deal of us have probably had it affect us. But the PS2 was also known for it's hardware problems, disk read errors would plauge gamers everywhere. In your experience which one is less reliable? Of course the PS2 is alot more reliable than it used to be, and so is the 360, but think back to when you first got each system and when you were affected by the RROD or DRE (if you were affected by either that is).

I've had a PS2 for over 5 years with no problems. I've had a 360 for nearly 2 years with 3 RROD's. So the 360 is worse in my personal experience.

RROD is probably worse overall, it seemed to get much more attention than DRE and is far more well known.

I got DRE once and it was under warranty so Sony actually fixed it for free. I don;t own a 360 but I know of multiple people with RROD and I'm the only person I know who had DRE (I had a luanch PS2) so I'd have to say RROD but from what I learnt later DRE was a horrible problem but was fixed after a year and RROD is still prevalent 3 years later

I had my Ps2 (the fat one) for 8 years and it never had problems, not only that my ps2 fell from the wall rack (you know one of those tv stand that go in the wall) and my brother threw it across the room and it still works. And I never heard of the DRE untill this summer.

Considering i had both since launch and i neither of them have failed me im not sure. But a couple friends of mine got RROD so im gonna say ps2 is more reliable on the count of inexperience.
Also this is the first time i have heard of DRE. lol

Both were problems, although DRE was a much easier fix.

As far as widespread problems, RROD is worse. It was the first time actual major retailers (Best Buy stopped for a time, as did Gamestop for a time) stopped selling warranties for consolse, and then their was the M$ 360 Austrailian Scandal, where many weren't covered (different laws.)

Overall, these things aren't great, but RROD was far worse. I had DRE once, and RROD 3 times. I am also extremely clean, so I'd be one of those poeple you would expect immune from this crap.

I would say RROD. I have had my 360 since launch, and it RROD on me about 4 months after I got it. Since I got it back it has been working great though.

For me both were good enough.

PS2 bought in 2002 and still works PERFECTLY FINE.

Xbox 360 sold already but bought and used for nearly 2 years.Works fine.

But maybe thats because i know alot about hardware and how to take care of consoles.

the only thing that the PS2 has is DRE, and its not even that widespread as what the 360 has

the 360 has-

RROD(serveral errors, mostly overheating)

DRE

disc scratch

hard drive error

might not look like alot, but it is... i know alot of people that owned a 360 for at least a year, none of them have had it work perfectly

My PS2 had gotten DRE a couple times, but it still played games fine and played them even better after I cleaned the system and lens all by myself. No customer service required. Xbox 360 on the other hand, LOL.

7 years and my PS2 has only ever stalled on me a couple of times. Still works perfectly till this day. 360, many stalls, crashes and a RROD.

My 360's never had a problem. I went through 2 PS2s. I do perceive the 360s problems to be worse though, partly owing to the explosion of the issue on the internet.

Personally I don't want to sheparded into choosing which one is worse. We shouldn't have to deal with these problems as consumers.

I have 2 360s neither have failed and one is a launch unit.

Till this date i've had over 5 ps2's fats and slims that failed me.

As well RROD is far more overblown then PS2 dre many more fake reports, and fanboys make fake sites, posts on forums...ect bout RROD then ever the same was done for ps2 dre.

DRE occurs when the laser becomes week and unable to read discs anymore for this to happen it takes at least 1 year + of constant use which is why its rare to hear of people who had a ps2 under a year getting DRE

Like i said its rare but it is possible i just find it hard to beleive that TheOwnerOner got 4 for them giving the ps2s lifespan to date and the fact that it does not affect every ps2

The thing is DRE can affect everthing that uses a laser from CD players,DVD players to other home consoles ect.

So 4 DRE's on the PS2 can't be believed but 4 RRODs is far from being far-fetched?

Lucky for me I've been gaming since the Atari 2600 and have never experienced a malfunction with any console. I still have a launch 360 and besides the occasional freeze ups I had with Oblivion, it works just fine.

Still though I would have to say RROD is not only the biggest disaster in console history, but in the history of consumer electronics as a whole.

As for the guy who said he had 4 DREs, sure anything is possible, but I find that very unlikely.

still the RROD is far more wide spread then DRE

Well my friend had GTA IV for a week. His Xbox 360 then scratched it so badly it didn't work.

He took it back got another copy for free from EB and then his xbox 360 scratched that one too.

No GTA IV for xbox =(. Wasn't that great a game anyway.

I'd say the RROD is a bigger issue. I've had 4. But then again i was unlucky enough to even have my PS3 break, so it really is the luck of the draw i suppose. There will always be people who have a launch 360 with no problems years from now, by some miracle.

My 360 rrod about a year and half after i got it, i sent it in and got it fixed for free, i also got my ps2 at launch about 2 years in it started having disk read errors, i looked the problem up on the internet and found out how to fix it, "apparantly wiping dust off the lens with alchohol and swab fixes it", so i f wiped it and it worked, however every 6-8 months it would start doing it and id have to wipe it again. neither were that bad for me. : /

so ya thats my experiance

the xboxes problem is they put the hottest, and therefor the part most likely to kill it, under the DVD drive with a tiny heatsink on top and almost no ventellation or fans to keep the thing cool. Microsoft are a software based company, and had little experience in making a reliable console. The reason Playstations are more reliable is because Sony have been making hardware for years and they know what there doing. In my house weve got both xbox and ps2, and a ps3, and guess what one broke? PS2 - Fine PS3 - Fine XBOX 360 - 3RROD and got sent back ( its dead Jim) And the sad thing is when you send off an xbox they only refurbish it. If they cared for their customers they would give you a brand new one. and in the end its worse for them because they get a wave of dead refurbished consoles to repair again

RROD 4 times in 2 years and PS2 still working fiine without any problems since 2000 so dont campare that piece of junk to the PS2.
