I see the TC has become aggressively militant about sales lately.

Woops my bad i was looking at Neogaf comments earlier them saying its because there were no bloodborne in stock which caused the drop the past week but link dosent mention BB so edited it out till there is proof.

Its a weekly thing has been being posted and shared on SW for years now just like the monthly NPD.

Surprised that it sold poorly (XC3D) - maybe they should have left it out of NA again to drive up interest. You only want what you can't have... (sometimes)

I am struggling to see how a down port of a game that originally sold less than 200,000 copies in Japan selling a fourth of that in its first week on a smaller install base, with a limit further imposed by only being compatible with the absolute newest model of the system it is on, is in any possible way a flop.

Then again, this would not be a finalstar thread without some amazing spin.

Xenoblade ported to a handheld and debuting in third place is a flop? At first I thought you meant Xenoblade Chronicles X. That one should do much better.

This Week In Sales: Xenoblade Chronicles 3D Isn’t Really Feeling It

For what is considered one of the best RPGs of the last 10 years, Xenoblade Chronicles has always found itself fighting an uphill battle for one reason or another. When the game was originally released in Japan back in 2010, it was during a period when the Wii software market had begun drying up and wasn’t very receptive toward an unproven RPG brand. Then, when it was released in North America two years later, it was made available exclusively through GameStop and Nintendo’s online store, which limited its reach in that territory as well.

Xenoblade Chronicles 3D, which was released last week, finds itself in a similar position. Released exclusively for the New Nintendo 3DS—which has sold less than 1.8 million units in Japan thus far—the game is unable to reach the audience of 16 million that Nintendo have built up with their older 3DS models. And so, Xenoblade Chronicles 3D debuted with opening week sales of just 56,932 copies.

For reference, the original version of Xenoblade Chronicles on Wii sold 82,952 copies at launch. While that figure is far from impressive, the game continued to move units through word-of-mouth and went on to sell close to 200,000 copies in Japan by the end of 2013. Additionally, it was confirmed in a recent Iwata Asks interview that Xenoblade Chronicles ended up selling more in the West than it did in Japan, so it’s safe to assume that the game ended up doing “okay” globally, despite its uphill climb.

Whether Xenoblade Chronicles 3D will manage to do the same remains to be seen. In Japan, the game certainly stands a chance of continuing to sell alongside the New 3DS as word-of-mouth spreads and more and more people seek out a game to play on their New 3DSes. For now, though, it has another uphill climb ahead of it yet again.

I thought it wouldnt do as well as people think, I dont see too many people wanting to upgrade to the new 3ds in order to play it when they already own a version of the 3ds...

the game's a joint of various popular mecha anime like Gundam and Macross. Maybe that's why the name's so generic?

probably not, I think there is probably a hardware issue or else they probably would have put it on the 3ds

Not surprising as others mentioned Xenoblade is for the new 3DS and is not as good as the Wii version.

@finalstar2007: Xenoblade Chonicles 3D flop? It's outselling Bloodborne and has scored 86 on Metacritic. I wouldn't call that a flop.

It's Japan. Did you expect some surprises or something. Japan doesn't care about American game consoles. They never have. Even though the XBox brand is the most successful US game console released in Japan. No other U.S. game console has sold as many units.

What numbers are you comparing it to?

Didn't you expect X1 to dominate in China?

PS4 is on a ROLL world wide brother, its magical.

Only recently with the 360 was the Xbox brand the most sucesseful

Xenoblade a flop?

You can only play it on the "New 3DS". That install base is still incredibly small. I would say it finishing 3rd with the smallest install base is pretty damn good.

The thing that really shocks me is PS3 games can still sell like hotcakes over there.

it could sell a couple of thousand, maybe hit 10k sales for xb1...but its not going to all of sudden open up the market for ms and xb1 stats overtaking even the wii u

There's a ... "New 3DS"? Man that's messed up. 3DS; 3DS XL, New 3DS... Straight up insulting imo. I feel as if they're completely screwing their fans over. I can't help but to feel salty over the fact that I gave Nintendo a last shot and bought a 3DS XL that's less than a year old that appear to be going irrelevant soon.

I can't help but to wonder how casual people feel about this. I mean, I didn't even know there was a "New 3DS" and I browse Gamespot news and several gaming forums everyday.

Lol, because Xbox is probably the only foreign console released in Japan.

Its original sales, the other games on the list and the fact that it's a 3d remake on one of Nintendo's lower selling handhelds.

@xWoW_Rougex: N3DS is just a slight hardware update. Theres no talk of Nintendo dropping 3DS in the slightest. Its like the DSi of the DS era. Didn't really matter.

Interesting Xenoblade Chronicles 3D didn't do better, I guess on reflection I have to ask did they do anything to make it worth double dipping on the New 3DS besides being Xeoblade Chronicles on the 3DS? I mean, just look at Persona 4: The Golden did a lot to make it worth the repurchase. Did they do anything to add substantial content to Xenoblade Chronicles?

Considering its exclusive to the New3ds I would say Xenoblade did pretty. I'm interested in the legs this game will have and if it will come close to the original's numbers.

Thats the only way I am going to play it.... shame.. I would love to play it but not forking out for a 2nd 3ds a 3ds.025 edition. I already own an original with circle pad pro and made the mistake of buying 50% of the games off eshop... don't want to have to call nintendo to get a the games transferred. That is an ass backwards way to do things.

If you're comparing it to the week one of the other games on that list, the number are piss poor.

That's not entirely true. Maybe they won't drop 3DS but it's not just a hardware update. They're limiting certain games to the new 3DS. Xenoblade is exclusive to the New 3Ds and that's waht's messed up.
