Well, a last gen game vs a current gen game. Sounds fair.
Anyway, RE4 wins. While the story is not really great is waay better that DSs. Graphically DS wins but RE4 looks good even by today's standarts and gameplay isalmost the same. Characters, RE4 wins. Isaac is a mofo robot, no personality no nothing so Leon pwns him. And the RE4enemies are more epic that DSs.
I don't think that any of them are horror, more like Action with some horror/gore elements. Overall, Dead Space was to boring for me, i don't know why, i just couldn't get into it, on the other hand i loved RE4.
Well at least Dead Space on Insane Mode almost felt like a Survival-Horror for the first few missions...
They definitely got the atmosphere down better, that's for sure. RE4 had a bit more variety, but it was marred by the clunky gameplay. Dead Space took what RE4 (and previous 3rd person shooters) started and made it that much better. Plus, Dead Space' setting was a lot more unique for a survival-horror. Sure, there was SS2 and everything, but how many secluded villages and mansions/castles have you already experienced?
Dead Space was actually able to make me think twice about shooting an enemy on the hardest difficulty (as opposed to the joke that RE4 Professional was), and think again when I wanted to run since the enemies could traverse rooms very easily thanks to the air ducts.
Dead Space hands down. RE4 was the first to do what it did great, but dead space has improved upon everything.
Anyone who says RE4 is delusional to nostalgia.
One was a game of the year, and was one of the most revolutionary games in history, another one was just a copy, but it did have a decent story. So you choose.

It seems to be fair, both games are amazing and im not considereing graphics
i hope that last comment was a joke....RE4 if one of the BEST TPS of all time........game is a classic bro.....Dead Space hands down. RE4 was the first to do what it did great, but dead space has improved upon everything.

MonkeyPulp
RE4 beats dead space just because of its boss fights.
Even to this day, it still has the best boss fights out of any video game. Sure thats MY opinion, but how could you argue when facing beasts like IT, Krauser, Right Hand, and two friggin Garradors at the same time?
[QUOTE="tagyhag"]RE4 hands down. Anyone who says Dead Space is delusional to neophilia.siLVURcrossWhy did I read that as necrophillia? Anyways, RE4 easily.
Subcouncious taking over?? lol :P
In terms of overall game quality and experience, Dead Space hands down.
Came into that game not expecting much, and waht I got is just a flawless experience, def one my favorites.
Well with the things I've been watching/reading/playing...err nevermind.Subcouncious taking over?? lol :P

I loved RE4, thought it was one of the best games ever. Still is a great game.
But Dead Space improved everything, Graphics, Atmosphere, Story, Gameplay, Physics.
If you comparing which was more revolutionary then RE4 no question. But in terms of which game is better, like I said Deadspace improved everything.
Resident Evil 4 might have been a terrible Resident Evil game... but it was still a fantastic game that was very well-designed. I was actually able to make it all the way through RE4. I got bored of Dead Space about 5 chapters in. Every single level was basically exactly the same and the monsters were so bloody predictable (in a survival horror, you shouldn't know where or when the enemies are going to come from... but the "horror" elements in Dead Space were so incredibly cliche and predictable, I wasn't surprised by a single enemy at any point).
It was frustrating given how much I enjoyed the anime and story. Though, I hear the story in the game gets really cheesy. It was also frustrating seeing many elements from System Shock 2 make it into the game... and then it end up so boring. I didn't finish System Shock 2 either... but that's because I'm scared ****less of that game.
Let me add that RE5 is almost the same damn thing as RE4, and people don't consider that better then Deadspace. So why should we consider RE4 better? Because it was amazing in 2005?
You're such a baby, who gets scared of cute little monkeys? :P

[QUOTE="tagyhag"]RE4 hands down. Anyone who says Dead Space is delusional to neophilia.LookAnDrolLGuilty as charged. re4 is NOT a horror game. Dead space in the other hand has more horror elements than re4 I was actually poking fun at the post above mine. :P
Back to your post though, while neither of them are horror titles, I've had a bit more scares with RE4, Like foxhound said, Dead Space was just too predictable and clichéd.

I didnt find the story in dead space very cheesy, atleast not any more cheesier than being confronted by some diabolical midget Napoleon type villian in a europeon castle..

Same. DS is one of my favorite games this gen. The audio is unmatched for a horror game.I didnt find the story in dead space very cheesy, atleast not any more cheesier than being confronted by some diabolical midget Napoleon type villian in a europeon castle..

Fair enough I suppose..
Yeah, there are some moments in Dead Space that you could consider "cheesy",like the deranged doctor/scientist that lets that regenerator necromorph loose on you,and the whole unitology thing, but i'd say it's more cliche if anything...like you stated. But for the most part I thought it was a very creepy, atmospheric game..DS was alot more of a spritual successor to SS2 than Bioshock was.
As much as i love Dead Space, RE4 was one of the game from the last gen i played through the most but if the poll was RE5 vs Dead space i'd go with Dead space all the way.
