David Cage has claimed games are for children and things like "boss battles" are outdated. His vision for games are short games designed for adults like Heavy Rain.

Do you think his vision of the future will come into

fruition? Will we all be playing Heavy Rain 2 with oculus rift when we are older?

Big no, games should NOT be trying to become movies, they are an interactive experience defined by gameplay - not cinematics.  If I want to watch a movie, I'll watch a movie.  IMO this is one of the worst trends in gaming, since it is antithetical to what makes a game.

While true, i dont think we need MORE games like the ones he makes. Im fine with a perfect balance like Uncharted.

I don't get the hate behind this guy.  He's just doing his own thing is trying to push the techniques of interactive storytelling.

you clearly havent played any of his games. Yes I said "played", it may not be a game per say but it definately requires you to interact with it almost as much as arkham asylum does, which is more than I can say for Kojima's games

The future? Laughbly no. There is no "future" to games because what makes gaming great is the huge variety of types of games. But he is important because he has a very strong vision of what he wants, he doesnt fall into typical trappings most other game designers do, he makes the games he wants to make and he is overall very smart and he makes great games.

So yes while I loved heavy rain a great deal I also want to go on a kill crazy rampage, grow my townfolk into a giant thriving country, I want to shoot space marines, I want to fling birds at pigs, and I want to race cars plus a whole lot more. Gaming would suck if just one person was the future of gaming.

You don't define what is a game. Heavy Rain and The Walking Dead by Telltale are two of the best games this generation. Movies games are a great.

Mr. cage definately is not the future of games but he is the present of Interactive Storytelling. Which is ironic since this is something most games are lacking, depending on non-interactive cutscenes to deliver their narrative (movie anyone ?), just because people like it that way doesn't mean its the right way. Now I'm not saying we should get rid of cutscenes, I'm saying when its time to dole out the Best Story in a Video Game Award, what you like is no longer relavent, Its an interactive medium, which means interaction is the deciding criteria, which means Metal Gear Solid can go f#ck itself, regardless of how good its story is.

No, only an ignorant would believe such bullshit. What David Cage creates are nothing more than cinematic adventure games. It's a sub-genre of the over 30 year old Adventure genre. It doesn't matter how popular it might get, it'll never replace the wealth of variety within the gaming industry, because regardless what sci fi flicks will tell you, the variety of genres have only expanded with time, they haven't decreased.

And that's because the human mind is imaginative and creative. That will never stop. Hence why gaming will never be predominantly like that or in a 'virtual reality' type a thing. It will happen, but it'll have a market as large as Kinect, at most.

If your future of gaming is the death of variety and forever playing a couple of genres, you should be ashamed of yourself.

He does sound full of himself given those quote from TC, i also would not call a niche market the future of the industry. I think there needs to be a new defination for this industry, when we lump every product into GAME category, it does not make sense in opinion, maybe interactive entertainment would make more sense cause how do i explain to my grand dad the difference between a product Beyond Two Souls and Tetris or Diablo, the variation of products on the market at the moment is making it difficult to just call all of them games.
