In Theory: 1080p30 vs 720p60 - could next-gen let us choose?

I don't own any console (PC gamer) but I find it funny that PS4 owners go on about 1080p @60fps all the time, yet Killzone ShadowFall runs at 960x1080 (not the standard 1920x1080) and still only manages to average 50fps.

"Shadow Fall uses a horizontal interlace, with every other column of pixels generated using a temporal upscale - in effect, information from previously rendered frames is used to plug the gaps."

Quite pathetic really.

You put next gen and 720p in the same boat... shame on you. Nothing in our day n age should be anywhere near close to the fugly 720p.

Would a 1080p/30fps game run on a 720p TV have higher than 30fps or would it be locked at 720p/30fps?

The reality of these next gen console's is that both of them are underpowered. Both should be using something like a 7970ghz and up. They should have also gone with stronger cpu cores, I don't see why they couldn't have AMD stuff is not expensive.
