I own a xbox360 and only a xbox360. I'm a huge fan of MS and have been nothing but critical of Sony and the PS3 in the past. However, after much consideration, I've come to the conclusion that the PS3 is a better value than the xbox360 Elite. With a built in high def BlueRay player,  built in WiFi, memory card slot readers, multiple usb ports and built in blue tooth, standard HDMI, the PS3 is packed with features. With my xbox360, I have the WiFi adapter, the HD-DVD drive and the charge kit.

So, as you can see I like to watch high def movies with my xbox360 on my panasonic high def TV. Some of you may not be interested in watching High def movies but I am. Furthermore, as of right now it looks like BlueRay is going to win the format war. So in my oppinion, for me and my interests, the PS3 is a better value.

Does that mean I'm going to go out and purchase the PS3 right now? Wrong! I'm going to give it a year or so more to see how things play out. I never thought I would ever say this but I'm very tempted to switch over to the PS3. The only real thing keeping me with MS and the xbox360 is that 1) I already own a xbox360 and dont want to spend more money on the PS3 right now, 2) xboxlive is amazing, 3) Halo 3.

If Sony can some how get there online service to be on par or evern somewhat close to that of xboxlive and there is a price drop in the somewhat near future, I may be VERY VERY tempted to switch over. I would have never dreamed about doing this until the Elite was anounced.

It's just that the more I think about it and the more I think about what I want in a console and what I will be using the console for, the PS3 is starting to look more of a better value and more future proof than what the xbox360 currently offers. It also maked me kinda nervous that MS is always looking to change and revise the xbox360. I dont want to keep buying the system and then finding out later there is going to be a better version that is going to be released. I dont think that will happen to the PS3 on such a scale. I will give it another year to see how things play out. For now I will continue to use my xbox360.

I too am a 360 only guy, the Elite kind of really shows how the pS3 is a good deal.

I will stick with 360, but I due to the ELITE, I don't hate the PS3 as much as I used too. M$ screwed up, it isn't ELITE Enough.

The Elite is what made me want a 360 over a PS3. It's everything I could want in a game system. The PS3 isn't a value for me - it lacks games in a way that is simply unbeliveable. I've already waited a year and a half to get a system, I'm not going to spend another year being miserable while I wait for a game that appeals to me to come out on the PS3.

That isn't true. Youve been pro360 for a LONG time now. As far as teh PS3 not working for you, I have a 360 Ican relate, but don't try to pretend that until the eLITE you were mr. Pro Sony here, because you haven't been and definatly are not.

You ve led the Anti PS3 charge for awhile, the Elite has nothing to do with you liking it over the PS3, you liked the Pro over the PS3 ater all.

Okay forget that, for $20 you can get a NExt Generation Format Player...that's awesome. For another $50, you hcan have upgrade that $500 PS3's HDD to 200gigs if you wanted(Not neededuntil Sony has a better service. For gaming 20gigs is just fine, i have a 360 after all for over a year now. 20gigs fine for gamers.)

In the end, the Elite shows consumers that the PS3 is a value, and I don't hate the PS3 as much as I used to do to M$ forgetting to put in HDDVD or Bluray Playback.

Check my past posts, I have been more critical of Sony and the PS3 than most in these forums. I just think that MS really made a mistake with the Elite. Its making people like me, who would have never even dreamed about ever getting a PS3, more tempted to do so. It makes the PS3 not look like that bad of a deal.

I also have a 360 premium and a ps3 60 gig, I like to get the best but ms screwed us premium buyers with the elite.  I tried to swap my 360 hard drive with a 160 gig but the 360 only saw it as a 20 gig on the reformat. So I put it in my ps3 and it worked no problem. I bought the ps3 for F1 and it 's great I also bought casino royal on blu-ray and it kills hd-dvd, imo hd-dvd is going to be killed. I know psn sucks compaired to live but there is no lag and it's free so I am not mad playing with 10 people online is great. I am looking forward to forza 2 also.

$50 for a 200gb laptop hard drive? Oh really? Newegg having a good special or something? I don't want a next gen movie player, I want a game system that's proven it's going to provide hit games, along with a proven online service. At this point I've come to the conclusion that this generation is going to hurt my wallet no matter what I do - so I'm keen on just getting one console and sticking with it. The PS3 does not give me any confidence in its ability to get exclusive games I can actually care about. Instead I keep getting told to "wait" and "be patient" - I've been patient for Elite, how much longer must I wait for this generation to start? Seriously - congrats, you can watch casino royale (excellent movie) over and over again on Blu-Ray, that's great for you, but it's not what I want to do. I want to pretend I'm in Ghost in the Shell while I play GRAW and GRAW 2 like an obsessed loon, I want to play four hour stints of Halo 3 at one in the morning, I want to pilot a MIG in high speed combat in Ace Combat 6 - I want to be a 1000 year old cursed man in Lost Odyssey - I want GAMES and Microsoft seems to be the only person out there right now who gets that. Sony and Nintendo have taken to offering "diversions" which is fine and dandy, but it's not my thing. I'm not whatever audience is entertained by playing a graphically-enhanced modifiable platformer with my friends, it's not me.

Before the Elite was anounced I was convinced that the xbox360 was a better value. It was a lot cheaper. Now that MS is releasing an Elite version with no next gen video format, the PS3 is looking like a much better deal. For 20 bucks more I can get a blueRay player (which is looking more and more like the nect gen format winner). I really think this is going to back fire on MS. In my mind, this is a really bad move. My brother and a few of his friends, who were planning on getting the xbox360 are not thinking about getting the PS3 instead. All of this because of the xbox360 elite. They read the news about this new version of the xbox360 on cnn.com.

the only reason to get a PS3 is for the cheap BluRay drive- which is tempting i know- but i think Microsoft is playing the online downloads angle- they realise that the days of HD-DVD could be numbered so releasing a big HDD just after a movie downloads service makes sense. as internet connections get faster & faster u can download movies pretty quickly. If MS released a HD-DVD drive with the Elite then that could risk backlash from the fans plus reduce the demand for the online download service.

Of course the Ps3 is good value if u want a BluRAy player- Sony are losing stupid amounts of money on each unit sold- thats why they insist that the console is 'cheap' - but if u just want a games console obviously its expensive.

didgital movie downloads arent a great option for a lot of people or most people. how are you gonna let people borrow a movie ? well you cant, what if the drive craps out ? you gonna have to download those movies all over again, most people just want physical mediums they can show off to people, stack next to their TV, and let people borrow and its more comfortable to just have the movie in ur hands. they are playing this digital download thing to serious and thats dangerous. and many companies still arent comfortable with the idea due to piracy issues

Very good points. I really think MS thinks that Blue Ray will win out. Thats why they are really pushing the online content. the only reason to get a PS3 is for the cheap BluRay drive- which is tempting i know- but i think Microsoft is playing the online downloads angle- they realise that the days of HD-DVD could be numbered so releasing a big HDD just after a movie downloads service makes sense. as internet connections get faster & faster u can download movies pretty quickly. If MS released a HD-DVD drive with the Elite then that could risk backlash from the fans plus reduce the demand for the online download service.

I own a xbox360 and only a xbox360. I'm a huge fan of MS and have been nothing but critical of Sony and the PS3 in the past. [QUOTE="subrosian"][QUOTE="XTy"]

[QUOTE="subrosian"][QUOTE="Giancar"]The Sony online service will be amazing....I can't wait to the PSHome beta.... I also agree, where's the HD DVD built in???? or WI FI?neversummer75

where is the wifi in the $500 PS3?

Okay forget that, for $20 you can get a NExt Generation Format Player...that's awesome. For another $50, you hcan have upgrade that $500 PS3's HDD to 200gigs if you wanted(Not neededuntil Sony has a better service. For gaming 20gigs is just fine, i have a 360 after all for over a year now. 20gigs fine for gamers.)

In the end, the Elite shows consumers that the PS3 is a value, and I don't hate the PS3 as much as I used to do to M$ forgetting to put in HDDVD or Bluray Playback.

You make some very good points. As of now, thats one of the only things keeping me from switching over to the PS3. This gen I will only be owing one system because of money constraints. For me, I want a system that plays great games and it also a multimedia powerhouse. I love watching high Def movies on my xbox360 HD-DVD drive. It just looks amazing. However, its looking like Blue Ray is going to win out. Furthermore, the PS3 with built in Blue Ray is only 20 bucks more than the xbox360 Elite. It also comes with standard HDMI, blue tooth and other pretty cool featurs. Like I said, I will give it another year to see how things play out.

But if Sony can deliver on some really cool games and on online service thats close to xboxlive, I think I will be switching to the PS3. After some serious thought, I've just come to the conlusion that the PS3 was better thought out and planned for the future needs of gamers as well as multimedia buffs such as myself. Who knows how many more times MS will revampe the xbox360 and release a "new and better" version. Makes me nervous. I'm just starting to lose some confidence in MS and the xbox360. I sure will miss Halo!!!

If Sony could get their act together, I would buy a PS3. At this point I understand why people are going "Elite... can suck it" - I know the feeling. In fact, we'll see if I even wind up with one, but I like to challenge people to think about it. I'm leaning Microsoft but I'll concede, it's hard to knowing I could have a Blu-Ray player. I'll still get *some* of the games I want, the online is free, and I could go buy it *right now* instead of waiting for some "elite" device to come out. I really only want to buy one device this generation, but I want to make sure that device isn't going to be the one that becomes the next Gamecube. Right now it seems like HD-gaming is going to be expensive no matter what way you slice it, and no one has the perfect solution for doing it. I don't want to put $250 into the Wii - that's $250 that could go into an HD system. I'll give PS3 some credit - better looking Oblivion, that's a big thing for someone like me who would be buying the game on a second platform, simply because I'm sick of running it on my underpowered PC. Also, the hardware on the PS3 is superior in a lot of ways, bring your own hard drive - that's a big deal. Linux. KB&M support. The thing that bothers me is that it doesn't have fleshed out online support yet. I don't want to live in a single player world, and that's something the PS2 really did. SOCOM online was never that great - is Sony really going to make things better with HOME? But the 360 focus on online has been superb throughout. There are little things as well, I don't know, there's also a fear that the PS3 could fail utterly in the long run. $500+ is a lot to put into a system that could be the next Neo Geo. It's not keeping games on it, and the 360 is building some sweet exclusives - I mean, did the PS3 really just lose Ace Combat - the game I was playing on the PS1?

didgital movie downloads arent a great option for a lot of people or most people. how are you gonna let people borrow a movie ? well you cant, what if the drive craps out ? you gonna have to download those movies all over again, most people just want physical mediums they can show off to people, stack next to their TV, and let people borrow and its more comfortable to just have the movie in ur hands. they are playing this digital download thing to serious and thats dangerous. and many companies still arent comfortable with the idea due to piracy issuesMe_Ur_Daddy_
Good point. Its easier to just throw in a DVD than to spend a good 20-40 mins downloading a movie. People these days are pretty impatient. I thought Sony was insane when they created the PS3. I thought it was overkill. However, as time goes on, it looks more and more that they may be the last ones laughing with this gen is over. I think with a good price drop, that they will be back in the game and very well could win it again. Out of the 3, there system is far and beyond the one built for the future. This pains me to say because I'm such a big MS and xbox360 fan, but its true.

Exactly. I am not wasting my day/days  d/l 1080P TV shows, WTF is that.

Truth is Sony is SONY PICTURES. The best HD movies/ TV  shows are gonna SONY HAD THINGS. even if they weren't it doesn't matter.

Becuase when I make the HD switch I am looking 1080P movies. 35+ Gb of 7.1 losses audio and 1080  horizontal lines refreashed progressively

It's people's lack of fore sight which leads to all this negative PS3 press.

Like PS3 with Linux OS, Blu-ray, Cell, 60Gb HDD so just too much and unneeded

Its just like a Cell phones with Camera, expandable storage, webbrowsers

thing is these things are defacto standard with time

with i think will win things for PS3, People in time should Buy HD TV and come then they'll realise what good a PS3 is to have

But for most people those *aren't* the de facto standard. Do you honestly believe people are going to consider a *console* for their PC needs? How many people seriously browse the net on a cell phone who aren't just some kid goofing off in class? Serious businessmen might have a Blackberry, but they also have a laptop, and that's *never* going to go away. Integrating everything into one device isn't a great idea because one part of the device can become obsolete quickly - it's the same thing hermits yell at console fanboys for with regard to the graphics card built into consoles, and to a degree it's true. And the lack of games coming to the PS3 this year is my main concern. That was the death of the Gamecube - genuine lack of games at launch that never improves.

The PS3 is better value when it comes to the elite to be honest. When you are paying that sort of money and its on a PS3 you get HDMI, Blu-ray player etc but with the 360 you only get a black skin (which looks great...think im going to buy the vinyl) and HDMI for a few 1080p games that might never come along. Its not really worth the money. Reminds me of Sega CD lol.

After i got a HD TV i saw why i would like a HD DVD or a Bluray build in on my console i could easy buy a movie and watch... but after i have a system i don't like the idea of buying a 200 add-on.. and after reading some articles about HD DVD add-on having some really poor quality, i can say "I need a HD movie player" and that's when Sony gets me!and don't like the idea of download movies

That's not a good reason, the PS3 does 1080i, 720p as well.

That's a lame reason.

I like the xbox, but that statement is asinine.

My point is devices today do what multiple devices did yesterday.

How many people are into cellphones w/o cameras???? MP3 enabled, web capable. Just about 50 - 70% of people I work with have them. about 50% of motorolla profits were of RAZR phones. whats that tell you?

People have moved on bound this yester year thinking. Multi media capable devices are on the rise. shouldn't gaming consoles do the same?

I believe so

Great post. And as an Xbox360 Premium owner, I also agree. I don't like looking over my shoulder every couple of seconds and wondering if my console is no longer the best version out there. One of the few times when a Sony rep got things right: "We view every single PlayStation consumer as an elite consumer. Meaning no one is going to get shortchanged at the end of the day, whether they bought one on day one or just yesterday."

yeah it makes me kind of glad i haven't commited to a system yet. I would have been EXTREMELY upset if i had purchased a premium 360 only to have them announce this ELITE a few weeks later.

I can see how, for some people, the PS3 might be a better value.  But for me, the Xbox360 is the better value. Now I have a HDTV and I like to watch Hi-Def movies. BUT, I think MS is going in the right direction with the digital download service.  I only watch movies 1 time and that's it. I feel no need to watch them again after I have seen them the first time, which would make any HI-DEF movie player not for me. Yea I know I can rent the movies, but I prefer just to wait about 30min-1hr to download the movie than spend an extra $200 on a Hi-def movie player. The 120 gig, I don't really need either, because once I download the movie, watch it, I delete afterwards. But I guess, to each their own. But, I really do think that the age of a physical media format is coming to an end. Internet connections are going to get faster, and pretty soon you will have every movie made at your internet fingertips. So I will choose to support the future REVOLUTION, which is digital downloading, than to support the current EVOLUTION of physical media.

All the things that the elite gets are things that we have said we didn't really need anyway so unless you are a new owner your money would be better spent on games, a PS3, or a PC upgrade. If you want more hdd space hook the 360 up to your PC and use its memory that is free if you know a little about PC's or $30 if you don't and want to do it the easy way by buying the Xsata adapter.
