i'd rather have a stripped down ps3 than one that is loaded to save $$$

hello my little ssytem wawrs posters! we are a happy family.

people are complainign that ms is ripping off consumers by charging 299.99 for elite and not including wifi. they say that ps3 is a good deal at 299.99 beacause it has wifi.

i can spin that around too, and say that the ps3 is over priced by including wifi (which not all of us need or want!!) which bumps up costs. why dont sony strip wifi out and we can save like 30 to 50 bucks? my router is only 5 feet away from my 360. i can use ethernet cord just fine. those who want wifi for ps3 should buy it as accessory. why is sony forcing all ps3s to include this feature to raise costs?

say sony stripped out wifi (we dont need it), they can lower the cost of the console by like 30-50$

You know it's hilarious, you want the PS3 to take out a feature to be 30 dollars less but are perfectly willing to accept the 360 at the same price point when it has doesn't even have the feature :lol:

Since we are never getting a stripped down PS3 think of it this way, your getting a bargain compared to the 360.

I didn't even know the elite didn't have Wifi and I browse gaming forums every day. They can't be complaining about it that much if I didn't know about it before now.

Btw maybe people think the PS3 is a good deal as a package (good games, wifi, blue-ray, etc) instead of just because it has wifi.

and its not just about having wireless, its about giving all consoles RemotePlay functionality (except for the original 20gbs) along with DLNA, uPnP, and whatever other wireless media advantages are available

Cry to Sony , maybe they can remove it and save you $10 on your ps3. But anyone defending a $100 wifi add-on for others that might need or want thator even $50 to play online per year for online playis fighting a losing battle right now. Everone has a right to be upset by these things as you are with the ps3's wifi.

I'm the exact opposite, but maybe Sony will give SW what it wishes for with the PS4.

A $300 PS4 and a $400 PS3 at launch. I own two $600 Launch PS3's, and I love them.

Is this a joke? I own a 360 and i absolutely hate the fact that it doesn't come with wifi. Every time I want to play I have to D/C my PC and run the cord into my 360 because the router is upstairs and I cant run a huge cord all the way down here but if I had wifi I could browse the internet, listen to music, look up walkthroughs while playing etc while playing games online. I'll be getting a PS3 this christmas because of blu-ray player, exclusive titles and THE wifi, infact if it DIDNT have wifi built in I might have not even considered getting one.

i'd be nice if 360 had integrated wi-fi. just cuts down on all the cables in the room. look forward to not having to monkey around with more ethernet cables and AC cables when I get a PS3 in January.

Actually, i see the WiFi as a good move on Sony's part!! Yeah sure, many people may not need this element or have use for it but it could be a nice asset to have as well let's say there's a scenario in the future where the consumer may decide to test out the WiFi or would like to see it in action, they would have it right there at their convienience to use and not only that, they also get a nice Blu-Ray player for their cash as well!! Those in one combination plus more sounds like a really nice deal 2 me!!

Seriously, you'd probably save like $10, $15-20 if you're lucky. Also, PS3 isn't considered a bargain at $300 because of Wi-Fi. I have no idea where you heard that one. Its considering a bargain because most decent Blu-ray players run over $200 so for that extra $100 you get a gaming/multimedia machine.

You can get bluray players for under 100$ now.

They'd still charge you $300 for it. They don't make money off of selling the hardware; you'd just be getting less features.

Well, for one, I don't think anyone here really knows what the production costs for including Wi-Fi as a feature into every unit actually is. If it's included right now, it's probably because the cost is so insignificant to where they can leave it in and use it as an incentive to buy for consumers. You'd have to see what costs go into putting a feature like that and how they'd outweigh value of the product you're trying to sell.

Taking backwards compatibility seemed more of the issue of getting people to buy more Playstation 3 software than Playstation 2 software. To me, if anything.

To be honest, Wi-Fi has become more than just convenience. I simply just can't have an ethernet chord going across the apartment. It's just a mess for people like me.

The PS3 does not have "few" games. It has many games. 360 has more games, but the PS3 consistently gets great games and has a better year than 360 overall.
