I can't believe the inflated prices for GPUs today.

How do they expect people to get into pc gaming with these prices? I understand that it's the result of bit mining but this is just plain ridiculous. Just now I wanted to see if I can upgrade my GTX 970 and I went over to Amazon and Newegg to check prices on the 1070. It is being sold for over $900. Well I guess it'll be years before I upgrade.

That's kinda odd, there is less stock over here (belgium, europe) but still enough 1070 to get a 500 isch euros.

I'm kinda in the same boat though, want to upgrade my gtx 970, but it's for fallout 4 vr, and I think a 1070 might not cut it lol.

Some serious bullshit going on with GPU prices for sure. Damn crypto miners are fucking over PC gamers. Not cool.

Yep, and it is complete bullshit. GPU makers really need to create some GPUs that target crypto mining only so maybe they can split up the market a little bit. Nividia and AMD are loving it I guess.

Don't worry guys, they're just using the standard UK pricing model. Welcome to our world.

Wait until fuel prices are the same as well.

I know its absolute ridiculous. These prices make PC gaming stereo-typically out of reach. A freaking AMD 580 that debut at $229 is $649 on Newegg. WTF.

Well, I got my GTX 1070 from amazon about 8 months ago I got it for $380. Currently, it doesn't even appear that Amazon is selling any GTX models- they are all from third party sellers. If this is going to continue to be the trend then I might be done with PC gaming.

@commander: It doesn’t. A friend of mine bought a 1070 specifically for that. I had offered him my FE 1080 Ti at the time and he declined. Well a week later he went back on his decision but I had already sold the 1080 Ti.

Also yeah miners killed the market. I bought 6 myself last week lol. It was nothing because while at the store, some other guy had ordered 100.

Well it's already going to be better than my gtx 970, and it's certainly playable on that. In the end you're still playing fallout 4 vr, but after cranking up the supersampling I realized the world of fallout 4 vr can look a lot better. I'm talking 360p vs 1080p differences for anything past 20-30 feet but I don't think a 1080ti will be enough of an investment for that, it would be a lot more interesting to wait for volta.

You're a miner now too?

Yeah, what you gotta understand is "computer stores" don't exist everywhere and online is pretty much the only option and unless I want to walk into Best Buy and buy some shitty ass model, they don't stock anything decent only reference models. Fry's Electronics would be anyone's best shot finding a better deal GPU.

Just had to check between Amazon & Newegg, my GTX 1080Ti are selling over $1,000! I love my 1080Ti, but there's no way in Hell is it worth that kind of cash! My ass just got lucky I pay only $670 1080Ti during Cyber Monday lol.

Try to back order it from a trusted online store. If you are from Canada, try memoryexpress.com

@commander: Mining collapsed a while ago but with the surge in price of bitcoin and othter altcoins, it is now very profitable. You can make your ROI within 4 months with a 1070.

That will never happen with new people making up a new currency that everyone feels they have to mine for. I'm seriously afraid we've reached a point where PC gaming will go low-end (unless you wanna spend big on high-end) or will cost an extra $500 per machine. Some manufacturer seriously needs to come up with some other way, some other device for mining this make believe crap.

The GPU market, and Ram in just a matter of years. Has gone from making just enough high end cards and ram for PC gaming/work. To avoid excessive inventory for what was once a smaller market. To now shifting production towards mobile devices and the crypto currency surge.

There surely isn't enough factories out there to keep up with the demand. And no GPU/Ram manufacture was prepared for the crypto surge. Fortunately there's enough of everything else (CPU, MB, HDD, etc) to go around. Otherwise it really would be cost prohibitive to build a PC. I was fortunate to get my build for under $800 thanks to post Christmas clearance on Newegg. But to stay on budget, I had to settle with a 1060 3GB GPU. Which doesn't have enough VRAM to max out every modern game.

Damn this is insane. The 1050ti isn't even that good of a card. I ended up getting the 1060 3Gig as mentioned earlier just 3 weeks ago for like $209 including the rebate. And its practically doubled in price on Newegg.

How do they expect people to get into pc gaming with these prices? I understand that it's the result of bit mining but this is just plain ridiculous. You're lucky the price is $900 because that saved you from making a big mistake. You need to wait for Volta. It will be out in a few short months and you will get a ton of performance at the $400-$500 price point. Consider yourself lucky that you couldn't find a 1070 for $400. I wouldn't even pay $350 for a 1070 today because it is outdated tech. Spend your money on Volta, it will be worth it.

And that was months ago, they gotta be nearly dead by now. Idk how we'll even make it to volta

Lets just hope they don't figure out a way to get consoles to mine. Not that the hash rates would be worth a damn, but the X and Pro would be able to hit 1050TI/1060 mh/s at least and at a much lower TDP

The worst part is they are out of stock everywhere (same with the 1080). When Volta ships out, the cards will sell out in a matter of hours (and they'll be grossly marked up to begin with). **** these mining losers.

I'm curious how big the leap will be. The Titan V benches pretty close to the 1080 TI, which isn't that impressive.

@davillain-: I don't get it, isn't that mining thing on the way out, I heard it's going to collapse.

It's healthier than ever.

Bitcoin is on the way out (because it's outdated tech), but Bitcoin is just one of hundreds of cryptocurrencies. The new currencies are being mined like crazy.

This shit has a legitimate chance of destroying PC gaming unless Nvidia/AMD start making cards specifically for mining.

Would that even be legal ?

Why not? Cryptocurrency mining is legal.

I read somewhere the other day as I was trying to educate myself on this disturbing topic that a GTX 1080 earns a cryptocurrency miner around $10 a day (or $3650 a year). Basically, GPU prices can still rise a lot more before they stop being profitable for miners. We're fucked.

I wholly agree. Fucking leave gaming out of it. I hope the electronic play money craze blows up in their faces.

Blame crypto currency miners, if the prices don’t go back to normal, rather than paying $1000+ to these 3rd party sellers, it’ll be better to just buy the Titan Xp from Nvidia

Part 3: X1X = 1070 Performance, for 2/3 the price of a 1070 alone

Ahahahahaha no........ Try RX580 performance.
