Sure the human being having sex with another is disgusting but glorifying bloody violence between humans in film and games is kosher. And people wonder why our species is so f*cked

Only in America and Islamic countries is this the case. The rest of the world has an issue with violence and really loves sexuality.

Not sure if you've ever been to a predominately Islamic country, but that's really not the case regarding violence in entertainment. The opposite is true actually. They don't have the stomach for what we find acceptable in the west as they haven't spent decades being desensitized to it. You go show Mortal Kombat 1 to a family in the middle east and chances are someone will puke and the kids will have nightmares for weeks. Last time I was in Egypt I saw grown men scared to watch the 1925 Phantom of the Opera lmao.

Of course the media paints the picture of a landscape full of savage people, but the average joe in those parts of the world can't even handle the violent stuff that we feel is ok for kids.

I was speaking more along the lines of politically sanctioned violence (i.e. threats against Jews in Iran in the media) and the violent nature of Islam itself. They treat sexuality as an even bigger taboo than conservative America.

Well again, just speaking on the places I've been. Sexuality is treated roughly the same way it is here in the south in the United States. You have your equivalents of "Bible Thumpers" who are total prudes, but you still have people who flaunt it, nightclubs, porn, belly dancing shows on TV, etc.

Really dude, the common man is pretty much the same all over the world from what I've seen. Sure, if you go to the most backwards areas of Afghanistan, or completely destabilized war torn regions, you'll find some shit.

Completely disagreed on Islam being violent by "nature". The kindest, most down to earth people I've ever had the pleasure of spending time with have been Muslims. I really wish more people could visit the middle east, it's amazing how warped so much of the worlds perception is regarding Muslim people in general.

Islam itself isn't violent. Taking any religion and using it as a tool to unite ignorant and uneducated people towards hateful goals is what brings the violence.

I know plenty of moderate Muslims who I not only enjoy the company of, but have civil discussions with about various topics.

That doesn't stop Islam the religion, encouraging it's followers quite directly in it's holy book, to commit acts of violence against non-Muslims and non-believers. Islam is one of the few religions I consider an actual threat to modern secularism. It desperately needs a reformation like Christianity received in the 16th century. Where the old, defunct moral values are thrown out in the name of the "better" parts.

I don't have a problem with Muslims. I have a problem with Islam.

That's fine.

I would encourage you to actually read a Quran sometime though. Reading the out of context stuff you've probably read thousands of times online could easily lead you to that point of view. You unintentionally become slightly bigoted through ignorance. That's how I used to be as well, but back in the early 2000s I decided to learn more about the religion and came away surprised to say the least.

When a religion blatantly tells its followers that killing a single person is as grave a sin as killing all of mankind, the worst thing you could possibly do, that kind of clashes with the modern western idea of the religion.

And when a religion blatantly says "You have your way, I have mine", telling its followers that what you believe is for you, and not for you to force on others, well that's a religion I can agree with even if I'm not religious myself.

i guess 50, 20 or sth on the Origin and Uplay combined.

@ConanTheStoner:At the end, nowadays, the world would be a better place without religion, whether it's used as a tool or actually it's like that, doesn't matter, it's outdated and is not suited for a modern society, this is coming from someone who lives in a Muslim society, majority of ppl here and almost all third-world countries are Muslim ...and man it sucks here, there are tons of stuff wrong about the society i'm living in, it's literally a shithole.

I've read the Qur'an. I've pretty much read every major religious text of every major religion (the only one I didn't have the time to go through was the Guru Granth Sahib, but I've read parts of it).

If "context" is so important, then why do Muslims use those same passages I take issue with to justify acts of war and terrorism? And don't even give me a No True Scotsman.

There is only one religion that outwardly despises violence in all it's forms, and that's Jainism. I take issue with every religion that when taken literally can justify violence and other morally despicable actions. It's why I'm decidedly non-religious in the traditional sense.

No argument here man. I just know that religion isn't magically going to vanish lol. So I'd rather understand the people and their beliefs than wish for them to disappear or subscribe to what the media tells me. The world is overflowing with religious people, we have to live with them, might as well make the best of it. Not understanding each other is why so much of the world is a fucked up place.

Because a lot of people are assholes? Come on bro lmao. We're talking over a billion people here, I'm not saying every Muslim is a ray of sunshine haha.

But yes, that word again, context. You said it yourself. Those same passages are used out of context or misinterpreted to unite ignorant people towards violence. They're used in the same exact way to unite ignorant people towards a heavily skewed perception of the religion and its people. Two sides of the same ignorant coin.

That's all good bro, I can relate.

I never even meant to get into all this with you anyways. It's just that your initial statement about your view on Islamic countries and violence/sexuality was so one sided and uninformed. And as we go further down the rabbit hole here it seems more deep seeded than I thought. Had I known you had such a passionate distaste for Islam I wouldn't have bothered.

Trust me, I HATE discussing religion, especially on Gamespot of all places lol. I just meant to steer you clear on the violence/sexuality bit.

The bible has a lot of trash in it too, but that doesn't necessarily mean that every Christian does what the bible says, there are plenty of good Muslims as there are good Christians. However, I do acknowledge that the fact that Islam is being used as a tool by extremist to oppress innocent people in the middle east similar to the church did during the middle ages. But keep in mind, we should never punish all Muslim because of a few extremist otherwise we are no better than the nazies.

Also, the west should leave the middle east alone, nothing good has ever come of it. Just look at Iran before the united states meddle in their affairs, just because they were so afraid of communism and losing their oil supplies.

Thousands of pc games, and it pisses me off to use steam for some of them!!!

I do it from time to time, when there is no viable other way, and it's around 200ish last time i checked.

The Bible, and the Koran, were for their time written by really smart people.

Whoever let Digital Homicide and other crap like Gabe Newell Simulator on Steam is an idiot.

And this here people is why weed should still be legal(or legalized). A debate about religion ended in a peaceful, mature way and no personal attacks were thrown. Do you think this would have happened if his name was ConanTheDrinker?

Something to think about.

226 games. 180 installed. I've played each of them at least a little bit, but the vast majority I haven't finished. Or I finished them initially on console, then bought the PC version and never finished it.
