It just does not make any sense to me. Here we have a console with a year head start over the PS3, but yet only has only a 2-mill lead over the ps3 (world wide sales). When and why did the 360 (MS) drop the ball? Now we have lots of articles about how badly kinect is.

I feel the same way, i think it's all down to loyalty as Americans took the American made product and the Japanese took the Japanese product, and as we all know China and Japan house a massive portion of the modern worlds customers.

I wouldn't say having an 2-3M advantage over the successor of the PS2 classifies as "dropping the ball". But Kinect, yeah, so far what it has been showed looks pretty bad. And I have the bad feeling that won't change soon.

Because, it had a years head start.

It's reached the end of it's life, roll on the xbox successor.

PS3, step up to the throne.

It was those PS3 price drops and the Slim redesign, after those the gap dropped significantly.

I don't see them as dropping the ball at all. The 360 still dominates (over the ps3) in all the countries that matter to me (The US, Canada, The UK). It also still has games that I like better, and the better online experience. If it were not for Japan, Sony would be getting destroyed.

I don't know, MS tried hard. Japan stopped liking JRPG's apparently. I guess brand loyalty was still quite strong, though obviously not that strong as MS only succeeded compared to last gen.

Don't forget the middle east where pirating games is pretty much the only way to play, so the xbox dominates there too because its easily hackable.

Microsoft is not dropping the ball. The 360 has been a great success. Not many hardware can survive big competition, hardware failure, and still find homes in the hearts of the consumers. Microsoft has done a good job on there console. It is beginning to show some wear and tear now but its been having a very nice long run. They took a pretty fair chunk of the market for themselves I say.

The Wii is currently the most sold console in the U.S, and the PS2 the previous generation, obviously Americans are not just buying products due to the companies that make them.

So stealing a huge junk of the market off Sony is doing something wrong!! I do wonder sometimes. MS have done very well this gen even with RROD giving it a bad name it still sells as many as the ps3. If anything we should be looking into how Sony fell from glory.

Microsoft made ground from last generation. That is a success any way you look at it. Sony went from 120+ million to 38 million. Dominating for two entire gens then going to straight to last place is shocking, so don't try and spin this on M$ as the only company to drop the ball. And also, since when did 3.6 mil equal 2 million. If your going to make a discussion about sales then at least get your facts straight, it's embarrassing

It was kind of enevitable they would take some market share, surely it's to be expected that if a billion dollar company enters a market it's going to be very tough to compete against.

i dont really see the head start that black and white to be honest, Sony have had a whole generations head start to win over their fanbase, aswell as a large headstart with the PS2 over the xbox, this ultimately showed in 2007; looking at the games the 360 was offering, yet the PS3 still outsold it by over a million WW, what more could MS of done? they were really up against it and people give them far less credit than they deserve. just look at the 360s overall console sales compared with last gen.

I wouldn't say Microsoft dropped the ball, in fact both Microsoft and Nintendo have gained compared to last gen. The only company that has dropped the ball has been Sony. The PS3 isn't a worthy successor to the PS2 imo.

Yes because 4 million units sold in Japan caused Sony to extrapolate to 38 million. Damn those lying cheaters!!

360 dropped the ball. It missed a huge opportunity to take leadership over this gen. Now headed towards last place. PS3 dropped the ball. They went from dominating two gens successively to scrounging for 2nd place. The only one that hasn't dropped the ball is wii, but then relies solely on gimmicks. Unique gen but the next will be even more interesting.

this is system wars not console wars

if we get to bundle in last gen consoles like the PS2 then I see no problem in bundling in Windows
