For me I think I peaked in 2006 I was mostly playing games from 2005 but enjoying the hell out of them like Battlefield 2 I was in a clan back then and had so much fun. Also I was playing F.E.A.R. combat and Medal of Honor Allied Assault MP at that time too. I still look forward to games and play them alot but I think I'll never experience such a awesome time in gaming I don't think that time can be topped I hope I'm wrong. But what about you? is there a certain year where you had the most fun in gaming that you don't think can be topped?

My gaming peak came from the 90's when SNES was huge in my gaming life time, nothing comes close to that experience when I was still a brat. I'd say, Dreamcast back in 1999 with Sonic Adventure, Crazy Taxi, & Power Stone was the final year I really took a huge peaked on how awesome those arcade games were for their time. In 2007, when Crysis release, it kinda hit a peak almost the level of Dreamcast era but not as close as I remember, but still mighty impress.

I guess my enjoyment of gaming peaked during the SNES era but I still enjoy gaming about the same these days as well. There’s still a lot of great games that come that I enjoy very much as well.

I’d honestly say this year (2019) has been a good year for me. But I haven’t played many games that were recent. Just playing classics that I never got around to when growing up sort of thing.

Apart from that I’d say the Gamecube/PS2 era stands out for me.

90's & early 2000's from the Sega Megadrive through to the Saturn & the Dreamcast. Since then while I still enjoy gaming I feel like its getting closer to movies than games which is stupid, but now that gaming is more popular then ever and I see casuals and Sony ruining it for the true gamers out there :(

2019 has been such a great year for me in gaming. At 39 years old, I can still say I have a GREAT time with video games every year! (I like a lot of different types of games so I'm very lucky in this regard!)

It started to peak at the 360 and PS3 era both had incredible new series. I still enjoy gaming and probably for the rest of my life. Since gaming I rarely watch tv most of my spare time goes to gaming.

@i_p_daily: Yes, Sony is ruining gaming with their highly praised/rated GOTY exclusives. Definitely not something a true gamer would enjoy.

Whatever year I discovered JRPGs, which happened to be during their golden era.

Oh man, I remember how hyped I was for Crysis months before the release I kept looking at screenshots and gameplay clips. There was never a game that I can remember with such a huge graphically leap compared to what was out at the time to say the game was ahead of its time is a understatement.

Crysis is the very reason why I became a PC gamer in the first place. I built my PC from the ground up in order to play it and I was blown away that game surpass Halo Combat Evolve in such a way I never imagine. (But can it run Crysis)

Obviously he doesn't know the meaning of *true gamer* he's talking about. A gamer is whatever he plays and that makes me a gamer :)

Late 80s and early 90s made me a gamer, those were very special years for me, but gaming was never as good as it is right now! Despite having less free time to play, i enjoy videogames now more than ever.

My fondest times with videogames was during the GC/Xbox/PS2 era. The sheer amount of awesome games, and the selection of different shit was awesome. You had all kinds of crap you could possibly want. Action, Sports, Extreme Sports, Racing, Platformers, Adventure, Strategy, FPS, TPS, Valve. Even the value of games was better.

Today a lot of things that were great gets left behind, games lack ingenuity, and many developers just chase what's trending for the moment.

I think a lot of people agree that that was an awesome time for videogames, which is why I see lots of cheering everytime we hear something is coming back from that era.

Now game development is more focused on coming up with a great idea for nickel-and-diming people as much as possible rather than fun.

Same. I'd say late 90's or early 2000's were best for me. We got FFVII, FFVIII, and FFIX all back to back. You also got gems like The Legend of Dragoon, Chrono Cross, Brave Fencer Musashi, Kingdom Hearts, Parasite Eve, Vagrant Story, The Legend of Legaia, Xenosaga, Dark Cloud, Threads of Fate, Final Fantasy Tactics, etc. Once I played my first JRPG it forever changed me as a gamer lol

Probably the late 90's and early 2000's, but I will say that these last few years of gaming are up there as well.

I'd say my enjoyment peaked about 2000-2004. I'd always been a gamer, but I really dove in when I got a Dreamcast. Developers had finally wrapped their head around working in 3D, and the Dreamcast offered enough power to deliver a polished product. Tekken was good fun, but Soul Calibur changed my life.

Generally, the early 1990s to mid-2000s.

More specifically, around 1997-1999.

It peaked in 2017 for me with the Switch. I couldn't stop buying games for it. Now, I hardly ever buy more than one game a month for any system.

I've found this last generation to be fairly bleh. Maybe I just don't enjoy gaming as much as I did.

Mmm...I guess it’s probably peaked in the 80s, and been consistent since then. Games rock and continue to rock.

There’s problems for years or decades now, but still piles of awesome work being done that couldn’t have been done in the past.

The last 4 years of the 90s.

  • Final Fantasy VII
  • Final Fantasy VIII
  • Metal Gear Solid
  • Super Mario 64
  • Need for Speed 2
  • Tomb Raider II
  • Twisted Metal II
  • Brave Fencer Musashi
  • Age of Empires II
  • Flight Simulator 98

These games werent just good. They were revolutionary and most are still legendary to this day.

There was also the hype of the Playstation 2's imminent launch in 2000. It didnt disappoint with SSX as a launch title

Everything was moving so fast in the industry back then. Modern gaming is awesome, but it didnt advance as fast as it did back when it was in it's infancy

Two point hospital, Starcraft 2 (until the whole china blizzard debacle).

Its like my brain decided that the time for getting in to new games is over and i just play new versions of the same. Maybe its just that i dont have time to learn new games.

Maybe the exception was shadow of mordor, with the nemesis system. That game really hooked me and i was impressed by the responses from the orks.

@warmblur: a few years ago, I guess. All the rehashes (Hell, RE2 is up for GOTY?) has made my consoles collect dust.

In terms of playing non-stop, it would be years ago. I love games nowadays, but back then, i'd play for hours on end. SO PS1/PS2 days for me. That being said, I still love gaming, but don't have the time, nor effort to commit as much as I was used to doing.

I'd say 2002-2007 were the years I enjoyed games the most.

still some more recent ones that I enjoyed thoroughly (Witcher 3 and RDR2 for example) but in general i'm more apathetic towards gaming in general than I was back then

It's actually been pretty good the last 3 years with me getting good at console fps games. Overwatch, BF1, COD WW2, and BFV have been a blast for me. I'll never get a PC again, big money pit and a waste.
