So I've been enjoying some MCC lately on PC, played some of the infinite MP beta and its got me feeling positive about the game. replaying through the older Halo games I got to thinking about which one is my least favorite.

For me its a toss up between reach and 4, I liked 4 a little bit more than Reach but consensus with most halo fans is most like reach more. Halo 4 is often seen as the weakest Halo.

Even so, I don't think Sony has ever had an FPS game better than Halo 4. The red headed step child of the main entries.

Resistance? Killzone? Haze? nah man...

Halo 4 is better than every attempt Sony has made at an FPS, a 360 game that's disliked by many of the Halo fanbase.

What say you, is there a FPS game made by Sony that's better than Halo 4?? I don't think so. I was thinking maybe timesplitters back in the day but nah, plus 2 was on Xbox anyway and wasn't a Sony published game.

How come sony cant make an FPS better than the worst Halo by 343?

i got nada

I didn't like any Sony made FPS's. KZ2 and KZ3 were ok, but not something i would consider as a good fps. Halo 4 blows.

I wouldn't say that its SP was better than KZ2 and 3. But then again, its pretty clear that Sony doesn't focus on fps's. I don't know why, tho. An fps with as much effort put into it as TLOU2 could be amazing.

@hardwenzen: Sony mainly sticks with SP 3rd person action adventure story games, days gone, uncharted, last of us, horizon, and now even GOW. 3rd person action adventure story game

People give MS shit for always pushing halo, gears, Forza, but at least they are 3 different genres lol

Well, i too can play that game. At least Sony has top of the line writers that can write a story. MS doesn't have a single game with a decent story, let alone a memorable one.

Halo 4 is fake Halo game. too linear, scripted, short, sprint system,

the thing is Halo is one of the least scripted shooter and Halo 4 was incredibly scripted.

If its Killzone 2 vs Halo 3 then yeah people might argue which is better but the Kz dev shift focus more towards their new IP (Horizon) while bungie and later 343i solely created for Halo and make improvements towards the formula.

Okaaaay. If i want an FPS, i will play a third party game. Not only are there a ton of them, but they're so much better than the current Halo games.

Next.

wut? how is this a reason? a third person game is significantly harder to animate than a first person one, so they put more effort into their game than MS ever did. I mean, just look at Gears. Literally animated by animations from 2004. Robotic animations that look identical from game to game.

Killzone 2 & 3, Resistance 1&2, & MAG were all brilliant games for me & I played them far more than Halo 4. MAG was probably the weakest of these as it delivered ZERO for single players, & the graphics were a little ropey, probably due to the ridiculously ahead of it's time & punching above PS3's online weight with 256 players.

@zerothehero: "resistance"

Although I loved Killzone 2 & 3 for story......Resistance 1 is the game I smashed the mp of most in those days...No COD sh%t rip off, no Halo floaty mechanics crap, just a straight up ol' skool gangster a$$ fps. I really hope Insomniac revisit the series, or at least make a new FPS IP, as I've loved their work on the genre since Disruptor on PS1.

They are complete masters of multiple genres & one of the greatest developers around......A few more buys like these guys from Sony & my PS5 will be constantly spinning disks!

@hardwenzen: "I mean, just look at Gears. Literally animated by animations from 2004."

I agree with that I bought Gears after all the hype on my 360 & I honestly thought it felt stiff, rigid & slow...I really found it overrated & way less impressive than games like Unchartered where you could climb, swing, & do more than just move around awkwardly with terrible animations & shoot with a cover system I thought was done waaaaay better a gen before in Killswitch.

It seemed too focused on graphics whoring big, dumb grunts, than offer tight, fast frenetic gameplay...& Xbox fanboys lauded it for introducing cover mechanics that were stolen from Killswitch, which Killswitch probably stole & improved from Winback or the like..lol

@kizza_soze: Mag was very good. According to a documentary after psn was hacked and went down for ages it caused too many problems and they had to shut down the game.

I certainly enjoyed it, as well as Unit 13 on my Vita, & even Socom 4 (it had the best campaign in series to me). Shame Zipper got axed from Sony's stable.....

At it's height, Socom & Madden alones player base was greater than Xbox lives entire userbase & game in the online catalogue.....& that is not a knock on Xbox at all, but merely shows that Socom pulled impressive numbers for Sony & it's online on PS2, which was miles behind MS's service.

Halo CE is the only Halo I care about, but the other Halo's are probably better games than any Sony fps. That being said, I would rather play MAG or Resistance over any post CE Halo.

343's Halo's have been nothing but ar$e & nowhere near as good as Haze, let alone Sony's flagship fps's in KZ2/3 & Resistance 1-3.......That being said, hopefully Infinite will right the ship & try recapture some of that Bungie magic that made Halo special in the 1st place...

I don't think it will happen, it will just be another serviceable Halo game under the unoriginal studio that Lemmings will try to tout as the 2nd coming of Halo... But all non-fanboys know better, & deep down, even the most rampant, in denial MS Stan knows...The Halo spirit left the MS building the moment Bungie exited!!!!

Sony don't need to bother with fps's right now, as anything outside of COD, BF, Overwatch, Destiny, Apex Legends, Counter Strike, Far Cry, Rainbow Six Siege, Battlefront, are not what the masses want to play & will fail to pull the numbers of these games.... F2P games like Splitgate are getting more hype & positive publicity than MS's 500 million $ bomb... the game will NEVER see that investment returned without over milking of it's fanbase in soon to be seen mt's, etc....

Sony’s fps history has been a short line of try and dump games. The only ones that came close were resistance, but even halo 5 was better than anything from that stable.

Being completely honest, Sony never invested heavily into the FPS genre because shooters are a dime a dozen. Every third party publisher has a shooter franchise or two and half of them are f2p now anyway. There's no reason to invest game development into a game with a market so oversaturated that it's hard for even new shooter IPs to separate themselves from the crowd. The consumer proved they're going to buy the same damn shooter game every year anyway, so just investing in getting that content before the competition ended up being way easier and more lucrative for Sony anyway.

But to say Killzone games are garbage is probably shouted from the mouth of a Sony hating garbage fanboy. Guerilla didn't get chopped from the Sony roster like Zipper, Evolution & others after a couple of sales flops for a reason.

Many of us love the Killzone IP & would love if Guerilla could deliver another one as great as KZ2 on PS5....I would have preferred that before a Horizon sequel tbh.....I would also have preferred Insomniac to have given us a new Resistance over both Miles & Ratchet too.

@sargentd:

To me, Halo 5 was the weakest. Mostly because I only play for the campaign. 4's campaign was considerably better in every regard. As for the question, that depends on what you like in fps. I do think that Killzone was ahead of Halo in terms of gameplay despite the overall weaker story and design.

Gears isn't a good comparison. Maybe Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice or Quantum Break, or some other 3rd person movie tat.

That's why MS said of The Last of Us 2 "Naughty Dog still can’t seem to make decent gun combat in any of their games, and this is no exception."

Sony pays attention to everything. This is how master class video games are made. Why do you think MS hasn't had any GOTY in 50 years? They're a low effort company (not as low as Nintendo at least). They began the Gears franchise with robotic animations. Over a decade later, its the same robotic animations. Who does that? MS does it, can you imagine that? I can. Btw, TLOU2 gameplay/gunplay is better than anything MS has ever made. So not only do you get all the animations, attention to detail, story, characters, etc, but its also superior to MS offerings in the gameplay department.

Them saying that they can't make a decent gun combat when TLOU2 is out is laughable. There are hundreds of montages on youtube just killing shit, because its THIS fun and well done. It surpasses every single third person shooter. You will never see this in the likes of Gears. Chainsawing something is so 2006, and other than that, it offers nothing.

Sony has easily clapped MS in the tps department. If they wanted to clap them in fps, they could, but they're somehow not interested. Maybe they feel bad for Halo? Its a possibility.

Fun, or PS gamers just don't know any better? ;-)

I mean this same lot praise Uncharted 1.

Who builds a game with better cinematics than gameplay. Sony apparently.

Oh they tried. Killzone, Resistence, HAZE, MAG... It's all very lol. Anyway, the point is, Sony stick to these sorts of 3rd person blockbuster cinematic games for a reason. It's easier to focus on graphics than gameplay.

In a world with DOOM, Quake, Unreal Tournament, the older COD's and Battlefield, Killzone games were ass. They might have been great for console exclusive shooters but were laughable compared to actually great FPS (and even paled compared to Halo).

Imagine my surprise when I played the game which controlled like absolute ass with awful input lag. Then the fanboys had the nerves to say it was a conscious decision to add "weight" to the controls which was proven bullshit when Guerrilla released a patch that tried to mitigate the issue but only mildly succeeded. The copious amounts of crap post-processing were the culprit. Killzone 2 and 3 control terribly and have bad frame rates which is a death sentence for an fps. Halo games frame rate were bad too, but at least they controlled properly and had great MP maps.

Halo 4, while not a bad game, was not my favorite in the series either. Plot had some REALLY stupid s*** with Cortana. Like REALLY stupid.

You knew Bungie and MS had some conflict about how Halo 3 should end. Still, best is Halo 2 in my opinion.

@Juub1990: Out of all that the only thing you got right is they patched the game, congrats. 😂

Killzone 2 has a higher metacritic score so ... yeah, there you go. lol

And honestly, they don't really need one when they have the likes of Call of Duty (the most popular game basically every year).

Nope, but I did enjoy Killzone 2 and 3. Played the three Resistance games and found them to be quite mediocre. Played one of the Socom games and found it to be dull as dishwater. I think it was either 2 or 3, don’t recall.

No. The game has ridiculous input lag which is measurable. It's also terrible for aiming which again, was patched and mitigated the issue but didn't remove it completely. 130ms of input lag is insane and that wasn't even as bad as it could get.

1 & Shadow Fall were not great, I'll give you that..but KZ2 & 3 as well as Liberation & Mercenary were top notch from a single player campaign perspective...The MP was pretty nice too...but an acquired taste due to the heavy, more realistic controls.

I put Halo 5 on a few weeks back, & I didn't remember it controlling so terribly...I sh!t you not, I was disgusted with how floaty & loose the controls are..they are complete a$$ as you'd say & sapped the joy out of that attempt to get my moneys worth...I figured out why I didn't finish the game earlier.

Funny I finished the original Halo, Killzone 1,2,3, & Mercenary as well as Shadow Fall without feeling this issue of abhorrent input lag you speak of, I finished all campaigns & played the MP on 2 quite a bit & thoroughly enjoyed it. And it's not meant to play like Doom, Quake or my personal favorite Unreal....Just as Halo plays like none of them & has it's own unique feel, which personally I hate, but millions love.

Just because you didn't notice doesn't mean it's not there. DF measured KZ2 and recorded 149ms of input lag from the push of the trigger. 116ms in KZ3. That's as awful as awful gets in an fps.

I don't care that it doesn't play like DOOM. It doesn't have to. The problem is that the game isn't responsive.

@sargentd: Sony ususally does 3rd person titles, not FPS.

Sometimes, they partner with another studio on a FPS (Like getting the maps first for CoD), but it often ends in disaster (Haze).

I think the Resistance and Killzone franchises are retired.

So, no.

Killzone 2 & 3, and Resistance 3 are surprisingly good games for console FPS. So, Sony is capable when they want to.

If its Killzone 2 vs Halo 3 then yeah people might argue which is better but the Kz dev shift focus more towards their new IP (Horizon) while bungie and later 343i solely created for Halo and make improvements towards the formula.

Killzone is an embarrassment that Sony and Guerrilla would like to forget. They kept trying to make the franchise viable, but the best they got was mediocre. That's why they just ended it.

For Christ's sake, the first Killzone got beat by a Hello Kitty game for the GameCube.
