Halo 3 Gravity Hammer - Best FPS Melee Weapon Ever?

I seriously think so. I know most of you will probably think I'm just feeding off the hype of Halo 3 and will find it hard to believe me, that's ok, you're entitled to your opinion. Simply feel free to disagree.

Anyway, back to my reasons:

Negatives:

• It's a melee weapon but it's also two handed so you can't use grenades.
• Only weapon in the game that denies all ranged attack abilities, even grenades.

Positives:

• It's very powerful.
• It looks awesome.
• It has a "lunge" attack, similar to the Plasma Sword.(not as far or quick as sword lunge)
• It does area-effect damage on impact, allowing you to severely damage vehicles, stop some uncoming vehicles in their tracks or possibly send multiple groud troops flying with one swing.:twisted:
• It has the ability to reflect incoming grenades, possibly back towards their messenger.:twisted:
• It may have a "projectile pulse attack", similar to the one Tartarus used to push the Arbiter into the pit during the end cutscene of Halo 2s "Quarantine Zone" level. (Remember, it's two handed so the left trigger, normally used for grenades, may be this pulse attack)

The weapon and some of it's abilities has already been confirmed by Bungie, most of this will also be confirmed in the new EGM. let's just say...trust me;)

NOTE - The "projectile pulse attack is all theory on my part but I have reason to think it's very likely.

I am excited about it, but if it has the same range as the sword, and it can be used infinitely then I am going to have a problem with it like I do with the plasma sword now in Halo2

all i said it it sounds a lot like it. the same idea of using gravity on a weapon came out a few years ago on the PC :)

Sounds alot like UT3's Melee Hammer.

but with different abilities (Hammer is Electrical, disables viechles , hurts people and aiming it at the ground, hitting a wall will coause you to bounce off (jumping) ect.).

These 2 games are very alike, minus the speed difference.

I dont think anything can beat the Chainsaw.TheOwnerOner

C'mon guys, the Lancer isn't even a pure melee weapon and besides, the Gravity Hammer seems infinitely more functional.

Crowbar does a ton of stuff, it breaks obstacles and crates and stuff, and again, it can hit away grenades.

Absolutlely nothing beats the humilation factor of getting beaten by teh crowbar. :DTeufelhuhn

I think the most impressive thing is being able to stop someone who is trying to run you over. Imagine three guys in a Warthog chasing you down, at the last second you pull out a Gravity Hammer of Death and OBLITERATE the Warthog!:twisted:
